- While every season of Hell's Kitchen has bad chefs, there's usually always at least one or two who would make good winners.......but not season 8. Relive one of the biggest train wreck seasons in reality TV history, aka, a season that nobody wanted to win.

I had a lot of fun making this video lol. Let me know if you would like you would like to see more "in depth" season videos, as I would be more than willing to deep dive into each season!
You’ve sung praises of season 12 before. Understandably so because it’s good season. I’d be quite interested in seeing a video like this for that season.
@@Wes_Master and then 16 and 17
Yes please. Would love to see season 10, 12, 16, 18, 19, 21, and 22
@@daniellerose1114And 20
@@Wes_Master That's the one i most want to do, as it's 20 episodes long and there's basically something crazy happening in each one! And it's the one I have the most memory of
The fact that Raj made 13th place in a 16 person cast says a lot about this season's talent.
Yeah. Then you got Melissa in 10th and Boris in 9th
@@luuduonghy659then you’ve got Vinny who was arguably one of the better chefs this season, getting 7th
@@EpicAndrew97 thank god he improved after his unfortunate mistake in episode 2.
@@EpicAndrew97But don’t forget episode two Vinny! He definitely improved and should have at least got a black jacket!
@@luuduonghy659Melissa overstayed her welcome
"Asian woman failing to make sushi" just because she's from Asia doesn't mean she knows how to make sushi😅 That's the mistake Melissa made: "I'm with the Asian chick, she should know how to make sushi"😂
That's like pairing up with a black person expecting them to know how to make chitlins
Yeah that comment was a whole microaggression
Yemen is in Asia....
Is this really worse than Dan living in Asia for a year?
yea. like literally she said she wasn’t from japan 😭
Gail is from the Philippines. Saying "An Asian woman failed to make sushi" is like saying "A Greek man failed to make pasta from scratch".
Edit: Yes, I'm aware Asia is a continent and Greece is a country. Congratulations, you get the point.
EXACTLY
Yes that's incredibly stupid to say! And how he cut off the audio when she started to say "i'm not Japanese" is very icky
And then saying “at least her culture paid dividends at the punishment” like the fuck???
No it isnt. Its like saying "a European man failed to make pasta from scratch." Asia is a continent, not a country. Also, do you really think this dude made that comment to be mean spirited? Calm down and stop getting so offended by EVERYTHING.
@@rogerdodger1984 How can you misinterpret what I meant given I gave the context that Gail is from the Philippines, and not from Japan, where sushi is actually something people learn from a young age. You saying "Asia is a continent" literally proves the whole point.
Also the comment was meant to be an insult to Gail, as telegraphed by his snarky tone of voice, and the foundation of the criticism doesn't work at all. Putting all the weight of the sushi challenge on Gail because she's Asian is an example of an ignorant phenomenon called "monolithing", where ignorant Western people will lump every Asian culture together in spite of the fact that their cultural differences are literally sometimes the causes for war.
Russell: I'm a grown ass man
Also Russell: picks a fight with a teenager who was trying to make conversation
In Russell's defense, those kids were being annoying and bratty. I'm not saying it's any excuse for his behavior but if I were doing a punishment in Hell's Kitchen that involved being told what to do by a bunch of teenagers I'd loose my s*it to. So you gotta give him the benefit of a doubt there.
I understand Russell being aggressive towards them... Those guys are arrogant despite not backing up the talking
@@daniellerose1114That shows he wasn't able to run a restaurant
@ForrestFox626 oh yea definitely. I still think him acting up in this punishment was valid. Yes its not an excuse, but who likes being told what to do by a bunch of teenagers? I don't!!!
@daniellerose1114 grown man picking a fight with teenagers is just shameful
Fun fact: Sabrina and Raj actually remained friends after the show, and Sabrina said she would "100% do a collab with Raj!"

That line always draws a chuckle out of me.
“There’s no chance that they are going to get it right.”
Season 8 is a train wreck but that’s what makes it so entertaining. Honestly this would’ve been the ideal season for no door to open.
I'd call this season Hell's Circus.
Yes, For the first time ever. I Gordon Ramsay has made a mistake. and that was me eliminating the only talented chef in this competition, Jillian, if you want to go through this again. I will add you to the next season. everyone else. fuck off.
this is how Id imagined this would have gone
The fact that most of the contestants who mostly suck and mediocre like Boris, Rob, Melissa and Vinny can go too far is confusing. The only shining light of this season is Jillian but too bad she mostly not having much camera time or having a standout personality. She could be just like Paula from Season 5 and Holli from Season 7, they both are barely having camera times but they show how talented they are by being silent killer. And my heart breaks when she's on downward spiral on Black Jacket round.
@@tallyikroe2476 Russell was also talented
@@AlessandroChiarelli he wasn't that good as it literally got to a point where he only acted like a leader when Gordon was near him
you know the talent is bad when someone who couldn’t make salad on opening night made it to 4th place
Trev and Sabrina were also bad at the appetizer station during the first dinner service at the black jacket phase.
And someone who's sassying Gordon Ramsay somehow won the season
Lets face it, there was at least one person out there who was hoping Ramsay was going to get broken so badly by the S8 cast, that he would just eject EVERYONE mid-service and crown no winner at all.
That person was me. It would have made a more satisfying ending.
Nona accidentally fell into the winners circle
One of the best characters of this cast, for me, is Jillian. She made for great TV, she was the narrator of the season, had some of the funniest quotes of the show (“Gandhi didn’t wear flip-flops, he lived in the jungle!), and is one I think who’d be a welcome addition whenever they do another returning chefs season. I hope she’s doing well, wherever she is.
She freaked me out at first with the eyebrows but grew a little on me as it went on.
After Hell's Kitchen, Jillian returned to the kitchen at Plaza Grill and briefly worked at Freddy's Steak house before resigning. She intended to open her own restaurant. She is currently the Dietary and Environmental Services Manager at the Pagosa Springs Medical Center.
Fun fact: I live in Durango, CO and Pagosa Springs is only less than an hour away from me.
I liked Jillian a lot. She was a sweet girl and I thought she was a good chef with potential and deserved her black jacket, but "at the time" I couldn't fathom Ramsey picking her for an executive chef job where she would have 50+ more seasoned chefs under her because she appeared to be really young. Her season was a decade ago and I'm sure she's grown and matured, but if she were competing 'today', I'd say Jillian for the win because with more experience and maturity, she'd be unstoppable.
Jillian is actually my fiancée’s boss! She runs the kitchen for the hospital here in Pagosa. She’s a really nice lady, from what my fiancée tells me (If just a little scary).
It's never a good sign when a signature dish makes Gordan throw up.
Matt(S4) has something to say about that. Then again in his credibility, he had a migraine.
@@rayewaddell9668Well Chef Ramsay had one since Matt showed up
@@eddieolshefski6467so Chef Ramsay treated him like a kid and showed him out of the kitchen.
@@JES96 😆🤣 That never gets old
@@eddieolshefski6467 And when Matt begged Chef Ramsay so that he could get back in the kitchen, Chef just shouted, “GET OUT!!!”
Remember that Season 11 black jacket service where they competed against previous winners? Everyone was chill, except Nona who came in with an attitude. They even said they thought Nona was a lot nicer than she was there. Nona wasn’t a flower. She was a skunk amongst snakes.
Even Paul, who's known for being over the top at times, was more tolerable than whatever the heck nona was in that episode. Seeing her smugness really pissed me off considering that all the other winners were a joy to see return
She tried to make a character out of herself since she knows she's regarded by the HK community as one of the most uneventful winners.
Meanwhile in Season 10 when the Black Jacket competed with the runner ups, Russell got mocked by Paula for telling his attitude on finale sucks and pretty much he's way chill on that dinner service than he was on the finale
Nona had the worst attitude in S11, and she performed the worst too. Love how she got pissy when Dave had to save her lol.
Russell was ironically a lot more tolerable when he returned, the worst thing he did was calling the girls pet names during service, and he stopped when he was called out
I know she won HK AND THEN WENT “all Californian” seeing Nona was like looking at an entirely different person, the way she spoke the way she looked and her whole persona was so entirely different from the Nona that won
HK.
I really wanted Jillian to win that season
As Did I!!
I wanted Jillian to win, and rewatching it with hindsight made me want her to win again
She was the lady version of Jon (S11).
She was one of the few contestants I actually liked
Jillian vs Russell would have been a fun scenario
I'd rather watching Raj's shenanigans for the entire season 8 than watching Sabrina yelling "I'M YOUNG! I'M STILL 22, CHEF!", throwing people under the bus while pointing to them one by one on elimination night or being bitchy in general.
She was God awful, so glad she didn't win this season
5:10 ah yes, the biggest offense in Reality TV. Snoring!
Well despite Sabrina’s awful attitude she was right about the decline of Emily, Gail and especially Melissa, the so-called executive chef who needed an EJECTION for wasting 23 portions of expensive filet mignon.
@@myu5519 Sabrina is actually a decent cook but too bad she is mostly being childish and immature. Has she drop down the attitude, she would be a threat to everybody.
Hot take: Raj was a nice enough, well meaning guy that may or may not have been a decent cook in a private setting and who clearly didn't cope well on a line nor in a reality TV setting. Regardless nothing warranted the vicious bullying from his team mates about dying of a heart attack from overeating or being a waste of life.
The problem with this mentality is that Raj is also pretty egotistical, between calling his teammates kids, and many other things.
I agree even in his exit interview he said he had a great time
He was a private chef. Being on the line, even in a three star restaurant, is a completely different beast. He showed that, with less pressure on him, he was actually a decent cook, but he couldn't cope with being on the line and was too stubborn to understand how out of his league he was.
Fair point, the worst you can say about him is he's got delusions of grandeur and - again - condescending the youth of the rest of his cast.
He was smiling as he was 'helping' boris with the pizza
He was not well intentioned
He was in fact a deliberate clown
Ok does anybody else notice the way he's speaking or am I losing it lol

As bad as 8 is, it will never be as bad as disgusting, blatant, and Hollywood attempt at ratings draw that All Stars was. I just couldn’t stand that season. At least this one felt more like complete chance that these chefs were together.
The central problem with Season 17 is Elise. She is the textbook personification of the deadly sin of pride!
@@acetrainerarjun821 I’d say it’s also the people they brought back. To me they were going for the personification of drama tv way more than usual with that season. It felt lazily blatant. Especially when there’s so many other chefs they could’ve brought back. Petrozza (who was still alive at that time), Ji, Rochelle, Sterling for example.
@@billa107 Petrozza was very old by then tho and honestly, he had nothing to prove. He won that season, and he always knew it
@@billa107apparently from comments I’ve read Sabrina and Kimberly from s16 were also offered to comeback, which shows they really wanted drama. Imagine that season with them as well😭😭 tbh I’m surprised they didn’t bring Jen for all stars if they wanted drama.
Disagree, S16 was the worst. At least after S17, when there are no Elise episodes, it is more relaxed.
Calling sushi simple shows how little knowledge you have of food.
Trev: "Too much."

At least Trev was honest.
Compared to a lot of people who act like they didn't do anything wrong, at least he owned up
Placed 4th in the season, also didn't know how to make spagetti
Let's not forget when the Blue Team got kicked out, and Trev was the only one who was still there, in confessional room he said "Uhh.... Hi?" Awkwardly while shrugging.
Fun fact: Trev and Vinnie opened a restaurant together and competed on a show called Restaurant Start-Up hosted by Ramsey's Masterchef co-host.

Jillian should have won not Russell or Nona
I honestly thinking, Russell, Jillian and Gail would be a better top 3. But, the problem is, every single of them have their own flaws:
-Russell is an arrogant douchebag

Trev was wrongfully bullied for no reason
@@thedragonmaster1436 he was 100% justified on his bitching at the golf course. idk why the men were dogging on him. he made a good ravioli and even if it was shit, they could at least taste it before shoving him back to last place without even thinking to make him feel like he's part of the team. and they were just so unnecessarily mean to him when he returned to the blue team despite him saving their ass in his last man standing service
Especially how he has to handle a douchebag like Russell and also a whiny brat like Sabrina. Can't believe in Season 18 he's also got picked up by Scotley, Jose, Brett and Motto especially by Scotley who called him Baby Girl after he got a corn allergy. Quick thing, Gail is Filipino, not Japanese. From what little Filipino food is a lot closer to Southeast Asian cuisine with some Chinese, Spanish, and American influence.

And Jillian should have won s8 instead of Nona. Straight up.
The only issue I have is this narrator is they refuse to inhale during a sentence. And every time they inhale, elongate the last letter of the previous sentence. It sounds like desperately trying to breathe and narrate at the same time but can't juggle both.
Thats what I was thinking! They're dragging out the last word in every sentence so I came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed it.

The only person I liked was Vinny. His "big bowl of mud." Was funny. Telling customers it's best not to order sides was brutal, but it did make sense with Raj running the station, though underhanded. I think if he didn't do this, he could've won.
Yeah, he would had made it to final 6
Nona may not be the most talented chef to win, but considering the lack of talent on her squad in the final service, she showed some strong leadership qualities. I mean, she managed to get Boris to actually kind of not suck for a minute, which is a pretty big accomplishment.
I've lost three brain cells every time I watched this particular season. But Jillian was one of my fave contestants, especially with her funny confessionals. But the season as a whole, it's just really hard to look away from the intense chaos in every episode, considering the trainwreck status. And also, it gave us Raj. Nuff said.
Hot take: not only was Sabrina one of the most entertaining characters on this season, there were actually a couple times she made a good point and her main issue imo is that she got cast way too early.
The best way to understand this season is that it's the season where they focused entirely on the drama and the least on the cooking, and it shows.
Gail was underrated this season. She definitely collapsed skill and talent-wise around the black jackets, but she was otherwise consistent throughout the first half of the season with a decent attitude. I agree with Ramsay that she definitely could’ve gone all the way, especially within this cast, had she kept her momentum going
3:32 brother cmon, he let his intrusive thoughts win there, and then Gordon was straight up ready to brawl with him "IM READY FOR YOU TO FUCK AROUND!" 😂😂😂😂

@@DieselDuckFan2001 After S10 he started to mellow out. It's my belief that meeting Christina was what caused him to mellow out (especially because of how she kept her cool when dealing with the most dysfunctional red kitchen this show has EVER had).

Sushi is easy? You know how long it takes to become a master sushi maker/chef in Japan. 10 years. Does that sound easy to you?
The way he turned around after hearing Boris Imitated him
I understand how bad Raj was but I feel to remind everyone that his signature dish Sea Food & Vegetable pancake may have looked terrible but Chef Ramsay did say it tasted nice at least he had… 1 bright spot with his cooking skills
And on the sushi challenge he was mid, which by his standards is almost impressive. He was a private chef before joining the cast, which is way less of a stressful envirtonment than being on a line, even without the added stress of the show.
@tafua_a And during the 2nd service, his garnishes looked great even though he wasn't cooking them to order
My favorite part of the whole season is the narration of a beautiful salad tossing joke.
Nice stereotype in the video where u say (either in jest or not) that an Asian woman should be able to make sushi. I know she said it herself but u made a separate “joke” yourself. Classy
Especially since she's Filipino... like... OK go off
It's almost like Asians aren't a homogeneous group. And instead live in different parts of the world with different cultures and food. Lol. And even if she was Japanese, that doesn't mean sushi making is like ingrained in her DNA.

11:08 i thought this was a part of the original fight they had but i love this part as well 😂😂😂 "YOU GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF SNAKES, YOU FUCKING SNAKES"
Hey Flynn! Love the videos, couple of HK ideas that might be good:
Best Redemptions (personality wise going from villain to hero)
Biggest comebacks (looking like an early boot to dominating)
An idea for a season for returning chefs that were mid-pre black jacket boots
Predicting a season filled with winners as contestants
Obviously these are just personal picks but loving the content either way!
They seem like good choices. My only issue is the 2nd one because I realized that he made an underdog video, which is similar to the 2nd idea
Gail was pretty good early on, Jillian even saw her as a big threat she was bad later on but she’s by no means a bad black jacket
Wish we gave Trev a little bit more credit. He had to deal with Sabrina, Rob, and fucking Russell

Flynn, I’ve loved a ton of your videos, but frankly making fun of Gail for being “an Asian” that can’t make sushi is really not ok. “Asian” is literally 70% of the world population, with the most cultures out of anywhere in the world, obviously not all Asians know all Asian food, that’s just ridiculous.
I loke your videos but 6:22 is one of the most stupidest comments I've ever heard. There is a reason it takes people years to learn the mastery of sushi making.
I really liked this type of video! I need a drink after watching this! All jokes aside this was well done. You should definitely do more videos like this. Particularly I'd like to see one for seasons 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, and 22
So going to keep beating the dead horse that is season 8. Okay, I mean it did have that iconic 100th episode with some of the past season winners dining (which was pretty cool to see the girls win DESPITE the ‘hero in his own mind’ Trevor).
"They were expecting Superman, and Clark Kent showed up"
the most well rounded chef this season and most logical winner was eliminated before the damn final… if Jillian didn’t have a slight downward spiral she had the season 100%
The first 3 episodes of Season 8 are probably my favorite in all of Hells Kitchen.
Am I the only one who actually likes Trev? 😅 Sure, I understand he can get under some people's skin, but he had a lot of funny and good moments, including hopping on the Sabrina and Russell hate train. He was also a great underdog imo from all the hate he kept getting
You're not the only one. He got bullied on Season 18 by Scotley too. Trev is a highly sensitive person, which some people will take advantage of. I've been in Trev's position before, which is why he's very misunderstood.
Just watched the season him and Jillian the only reason I kept watching. Was rooting for both personally. Trev reminds me of a best friend I have. The way he acts and even looks. So it was like watching him up there to an extent. Underrated in my opinion
I liked Trev and well as someone that can be very sensitive I fucking hate people like Russel and Scotley.
@@brenster21 I agree 100 percent with you. Trev was never in the wrong anyway. Russell was a grade A prick.
Season 8 is definitely one of my least favourite seasons. A bunch of mediocre chefs, Sabrina who was the human equivalent of nails scraping down a blackboard and two of the worst finalists in the show's history. Though i was relieved Russ-hole lost, i didn't like Nona at all. Would have much rather have seen Jillian in the final two, but she went way overboard with the screaming during her run of the pass. This season and the one before it are two I don't really like rewatching.
Love the video! I would love to see more. Here's some other video ideas I had on my mind:
-Best dinner services from chefs who went home that night
-Your biggest HK Hot Takes (mine is that Aaron from HK 3 should never have been medically cleared to go on the show)
When I watched this season I knew that russell would lose in the final but not who won against him. I was so surprised when nona won, jillian and russell were like the only 2 good cooks on the season so I expected and was so rooting for a jillian win, such a robbed contestant imo
Since this was the first season I watched, I got so used to both teams losing that I thought that both teams always lost dinner service
hey man, just wanna let you know i just found your channel and really enjoy your videos ! i love hells kitchen so you're like an angel to me lol
Ramsey calling Raj the Big Fucking Sack of Piss and Wind was my favorite insult from this season
Lets be honest raj was the best thing from s8. He shouldve won hells kitchen alone just for the comedy he brought😂
Flynn, you should make a series ranking every single chef from every season. You could do like a A-F rating depending on their performance as a chef or likability as well. I think that would be a good idea for your channel 💪🏽
Why would she know how to make sushi when she isn't from a culture that does sushi like japan?
Who wants to bet that some (or maybe all) of Chef Ramsay’s soul was lost between all these weeks? 😂
I honestly get tired of hearing, "At least Russell was the best cook". Who cares? The point of Hell's Kitchen is to find the best option to lead a kitchen as a leader, and Russell was the worst pick out of all of Season 8. Hell, at Raj would have been the weird but funny manager that cooks would have to work around.
Russell literally showed some of the strongest leadership skills in the season. He said in interviews that he regrets his attitude and blamed it on producers screwing around with the chefs and feeling like he was wasting his time in the non-cooking portions of the shows.
S8 is a hilarious season lol, in my camera roll I have a bunch of those clips cause of how memeable they are😭😭 also Russel listening to Trev and Vinny’s convo was hilarious to me lol, like a spy listening in. Also this s8 final felt like the presidential election this year 😂😂
A hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside a trainwreck.
I don't know, season eight is pretty damn memorable. For better or worse.
Still, I was shocked at the blue team's lousy track record upon a rewatch.
23:24 The funny part about that scene is that both Trev and Vinny were right. Gordon was never going to choose Russell as the winer because his attitude sucked.
Yeah and Ramsay clearly observed how he treated his brigade in the final. He treated them worse than animals. Seriously, if I'd been in his brigade, I would have thrown a hot pan at him then walked out.
FlynnMasters, this essay is funny as hell, I actually checked out Season 12 episodes 15/16😆😆😆.
Maybe don’t stereotype the one asian woman? Not all asian cultures make sushi in their homes. She’s right, she’s not Japanese, and it says that the origins of sushi comes from China / Japan. Why are you lumping all east asians together?
To be fair, The Sushi Challenge performance is somewhat relatable to me. I cook as a hobby and Sushi is a pain to make. Which is kind of ironic because despite being Brazilian, I have Japanese heritage. I normally use a Rice Cooker for the rice. But the part I struggle with is the rolling process.
Side note: prior to watching this video, I had no idea that the Garnish Station was responsible for cooking gnocchi. I always thought that was the Appetizer Station’s job
Flynn finally takes on Season 8!
I've been binge watching the show since the CZcams channel started uploading entire uncut seasons, with 8 being the latest, and I actually dropped watching it once it got down to the final 5 because they were all absolutely dreadful. One of the only seasons where I would have actually given props to Ramsay if he'd refused to name a winner.
I like how people just ignore the fact that when It came to Raj’s seafood and vegetable pancake Gordon actually said the fish tasted nice, it was just that it looked ghastly.
It's funny how uncanny it is to see Russell crack a genuine smile at 28:28 lmao
A season like this one is honestly what I come right to this show for.
Season 8 is one of my favorites. Everyone is so comically bad, and it's so funny seeing everyone consistently fail. Plus, Antonia's garbage gumbo, and Melissa's filet fiasco are also hilarious.
If it wasn't for Season 9, I would say this was the least likeable cast. Certainly it is the least skilled Golden Era cast.
Golden era ended with season 7!
@@lastdayonearthmysteryman4849 I'd say the golden era ended at s12.
Season 16 is the least likable
@@B9TL205 It depends I mean Arron was fine!
@@SirJoelsuf1 I don’t think 8 or 9 should be included in golden era because it was bad! Will and Paul way too much and Elise! 8 was bad Raj is ironic but because he was terrible!
Honestly Gillian should have won
She didnt have any yuck personality moments and was at least decent
It is interesting to analyse Season 4 or 2. In Season 4 we have of course Christina winning against Petrozza and in Season 2 we have freaking Virginia outstaying her welcome
Ok, I’ve seen that opening clip of Gordon’s voice cracking after finding Melissa’s garbage bin capellini, but how is this the first time I noticed that Heather (S2 winner) was the sous chef for that night???
Yeah, Heather was the red team sous chef for season 6.
