“Yeah he was a greedy c...” 😂
Dalglish employed a different style at Blackburn to the way his Liverpool team played.
At Liverpool, it was about sharp incisive moves. At Blackburn, his teams got the ball wide and got lots of crosses in.
I remember Shearer's last season for Saints - we knew he was going to bigger things. No wonder he scored more goals at Blackburn when you think who our manager was we he left Saints!
He scored a hat-trick on his debut vs Arsenal which should've been a clue and there's video on CZcams of him in the youth squad in 88 doing his infamous goal celebration...but apart from tbat... don't think Le Tiss was too interested in anyone at the time but himself! Dalglish saw his potential clearly.
Thing is both Le Tiss and Shearer were at such a higher level than pretty much everyone else, they probably didn't pay attention to anyone else but Matty id probably thinking more of the way he was introduced at such a snails pace by Nicholl.
Well 89-90 was my first full season ticket season at the Dell. I was obsessed... lol. If you remember, we had Paul Rideout as our main target man and he was really good, like a precursor to what Shearer went on to become, I reckon Alan learned a lot from Rideout who went on to have a tidy career on the Premier League in his own right. That Saints team was FAST and had attacking talent, Tiss, Rod (and Danny), She-Ra and Rideout then it had Franny, Doddy and Flowers at the back and thugs like Ruddock and Jimmy Case to back them up. We were banging in goals for fun, Shearer was a fair bit more wirey until he went to Blackburn where he seemed more bulky and harder to knock off the ball. He also got fed the ball properly like Saints went on to do with Matty. Liverpool smashed a few teams in winning the 89-90 title ( eg, Palace 9 - 0 and Coventry 6 - 1) but Saints took them apart at the Dell with that team: czcams.com/video/_vRya0_9kCg/video.htmlsi=eFo4b5l7_KupuWyW
He’s not wrong re Shearer getting better after he left Southampton. Didn’t realise how low Shearer’s goals per game ratio is at Southampton compared to his other clubs.
60 more than who? I guess football started in ‘92 😂 Greaves is the greatest.
Greatest at scoring tap ins 🤣 shearer could do it all
Greaves was awesome, but they are always referring to the PL. which Greavesy didn't play in. Shearer scored 23 top flight goals before the PL started, and they don't count either. Both the best goal scorers of their generation. Different generations and different games played at a different pace, but Greavesy would have given Shearer a run for his money if they'd played at the same time.
Imagine him in that Man united team?
Wheres rickie

*what if there were no football*
