- Ukrainian soldiers reportedly shoot down a massive Russian helicopter gunship.
The Russian helicopter, reportedly a Mil Mi-24, comes crashing down in a field in a ball of flames.
The images were obtained from the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, along with a short statement saying: "In the Donetsk region fighters of territorial defense of Ukraine brought down the Russian military Mi-35M helicopter."
Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February in what the Kremlin is calling a "special military operation" to "liberate the Donbass". Today marks the 114th day of the invasion.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February and 16th June, Russia had lost about 32,950 personnel, 1,449 tanks, 3,545 armoured fighting vehicles, 729 artillery pieces, 233 multiple launch rocket systems, 97 air defence systems, 213 warplanes, 179 helicopters, 591 tactical drones, 129 cruise missiles, 13 warships, 2,494 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 55 pieces of special equipment.
Washington has told China it risks ending up on the "wrong side of history" following Chinese President Xi Jinping's assurance to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Beijing supports Russian "sovereignty".
Thousands of civilians remain trapped in the key eastern Ukrainian city of Sievierodonetsk, where the water supply is reported to be dwindling. Hundreds of civilians are taking shelter in the bunkers beneath the city's Azot chemical plant.
Luhansk Oblast governor Serhiy Haidai said earlier this week that all three bridges into Sievierodonetsk had been destroyed, making delivering supplies and evacuating civilians impossible.

By Russian logic the helicopter successfully intercepted the missile so it was a Russian victory.
They say this was “military birds” that intercepted the russian helicopter. No casualties as always from russian sources.

That pilot wasted his life alone. Yes, putin initiated it. But there would be no war if soldiers refused. All those attackers are guilty of following orders. They know what they are doing and it doesn't stop them.
It isn't war according to kremlin, so the soldiers may refuse... and some more intelligent did so. Or, if that helicopter pilot flew to ukraine and surrendered he could live as well.
And that helicopter could do at least something good then.

@@No_lavishness I agree. I survived no less than 3 serious helicopter crashes in Call of Duty Modern Warfare, one of which was caused by a nuke exploding nearby. I was completely fine after each of them. He'll be OK, and is probably already fighting in the next level.
The Russian news will say that the helicopter heroically shot down an enemy missile and now the enemy has less ammunition. And of course there are no losses. 👌🤣

I humbly agree. And, we are not being told the actual core reasons this is happening. If the US Congress (Pelosi/Schumer) will not openly and truthfully answer all questions, we won’t know for years how some can see reason to fall over themselves to support anything and everything pro-Ukraine and some, Russia and her allies. In the mean time, some of the best young people from each country have to die. @@Lecruque Humanity in war is a losing concept. Dehumanization of the enemy is a must. I observed it happening in the third week when the "Orcs" experession first appeared, some days later I became familiar with "Khohol". I'm truly devastated by humans so good at this.
pilots are not easy to lose. its much different than an infantry loss. not just losing the helli, but the training involved. in WW2 the germans had the upper hand in the skies, better pilots with the best machinery. Losing a skilled pilot is a huge loss. Plus i dont know how many of these attack helo's does russia have

It was caught at short range, none visible missile trail so it was a prepared ambush. Some russians pilots, specially those who fought in Syria, fly with such confidence on theirs airplanes that tends to take the same routes. Ukrainians knows that, Good job!

Pilot realized after being hit, he maneuvered his chopper above those massive hedges from sustaining more damage.
Consolation to the Russian pilot, at least he saves some trees.
They were already pulling pitch to climb above the trees, momentum got them over before the heli rolled over and went blades first into the dirt.

I was thinking the same thing. The more advanced weaponry we have, the more obsolete tanks and the like are becoming. I wonder just how much of the US military equipment stockpile is actually irrelevant by today's warfare standards. We may as well send it to Ukraine and start over.

Way to fast conclusions on very one-sided selected videos.. You have to take into account proper combined arms tactics, of course single tanks and helo's are vulnerable. How do you plan to transport an infantry company without transport helicopters? Small drones have limited capabilities, especially in bad weather. A tank is still valuable in todays doctrine. If you get one tank on a hill where infantry has cleared the surrounding area, the single tank could destroy an entire airfield from 5km with 50 shells, that are very fast and cannot be intercepted. This would be impossible for an infantry unit with a dozen manpads.
Of course technology will change, so perhaps the heavy armor will disappear, perhaps the crews will not be in the vehicle. The vehicle systems and countermeasures will get smarter.

As much as I want to celebrate seeing this, reality sets in, and I remind myself as one who's been in combat many many times. Facing death alone, facing eternity. A child just lost a father, a wife her husband, someone just lost their son in combat. A disheartening fact of war. Someone losing their life in real time, from a leader who cares nothing about his people or men fighting on the ground. Sad.

Generally, I hope, that the Russian military will turn against their own goverment - as soon as possible! I am sure, the support of the people is shrinking everyday - due to this pointless slaughtering. At least of those, who don´t believe the russian tv propaganda ...
