It goes without saying that Anika is beautiful and lovely. But what's even more impressive is her playing. It's very obvious that she put in the work and the hours to master her instrument...she's the real deal.
She's amazing. Bloody gourgeous, inside and out.

Anika brings something special to the drums rhythmically. When you hear her play you can tell it is her without looking which makes her special. And for this video I can't say I have ever seen a famous drummer set up their own drums. Like she is becoming one with the instrument when she does it.
I wish she was born and drumming when I lived in Heidelberg, Germany when my Dad was stationed there (where I met Billy Cobham in the mid '70s). I am So happy I discovered Anika Niles before I left this earth. She is oosing with so much musical talent and skill. Karen Carpenter is smiling in her grave and proud!

Wonderful inspiration and a great musician
Anika is one of the best, if the THE best drummer out there today. She has so much creativity behind the kit it's unreal. Her sound is totally unique and to top it off she's just a cool person. Totally inspirational and amazing human.

Hi Anika, ich beobachte dich und deine Videos nun schon seit langem, habe aber erst jetzt dieses Video über deinen Drum-Alltag entdeckt.
Wie du dich darstellst, präsentierst und über deine Ansichten sprichst, ist sehr natürlich, nun, da finde ich mich 1:1 wieder.
Ich spiele auch Schlagzeug, und bin exakt den gleichen Weg gegangen wie du, - nur habe ich leider nicht das technische Niveau wie du erreicht…
Anika, Chapeau, passe auf dich auf und lass dich nicht (mehr) 'vereinnahmen', - bleibe wie du bist.

Ich mag Deinen Stil! So einzigartig Ich bin auch Schlagzeuger und habe mein ganzes Leben praktisch gespielt. Ich spüre, die akustischen Trommeln zu spielen, sind mehr lohnend, was sie liefern, wenn sie mit dem Stock geschlagen werden. Ich stimme zu, dass jedes Mal, wenn eine Trommel oder ein Becken geschlagen wird, es einen Grund gibt, in diesem bestimmten Moment in Raum und Zeit geschlagen zu werden. Akustische Trommeln akzentuieren diese leidenschaftliche Lieferung viel effektiver als elektrische Trommeln. Aber, elektrische Trommeln haben ihren Platz auch :) Ich denke deine Ausführung auf dem Kit ist Phänomenol !!!! Sie sind so sehr talentiert und Sie haben sehr hart geübt, was Sie tun können und es zeigt sich sehr gut. Immer neue Dinge lernen - das Gehirn lebendig halten !!! :) Ich liebe, wie du auf dem Kit sprichst !!! Halten Sie es auf Anika --- Sie sind eine riesige Inspiration für viele Trommler und ein Symbol der Größe für viele Frauen! :) Vielen Dank.

Das Schlusswort hat mich sehr bewegt: Etwas "Anständiges lernen, wo man jeden Monat sein Gehalt auf dem Konto hat."
Es ist unanständiger einen 9 to 5 Job zu machen, der keinen Spaß und Leute krank macht.
Wenn ich einen Job mache, der sich wie Arbeit anfühlt, von dem ich "Urlaub" brauche, dann bin ich zu bequem, ängstlich und einfältig das zu machen, was mir Spaß macht und wofür ich brenne. Beängstigend mit blick auf die Wirtschaft, zu sehen wie viele so unanständige 9 to 5 Jobs machen - entsprechend ist nämlich der Output.
Dein Job IST was Anständiges!

Drumming is male dominated ..I've somehow come to accept this, but this doesn't stop me from doing what I love. And thanks Anika for staying strong. I also feel criticized , sometimes I get moody as well, because I'm trying to be perfect. But it's a journey, and I have to accept feedback and mistakes and keep pushing to playing with ease and eventually get fluid in drumming. But my only wish is for guys to encourage ladies in drumming rather than criticize every stroke we play. Our interpretation might be different from yours sometimes. 😌 just my thoughts...
Yes, as a guy I admit drumming is male dominated. I was the head of a music club in college and during the induction of the freshmans in the music club I asked if any of the girls were interested in drumming or have played the drums, and none of them rose their hands.I asked them because we had an amazing all girl band in the previous year and the drummer was pretty good. I guess there is a stigma attached to drumming. Anika Niles is one of my favorite drummers and I wish there are more like her. But for some reason, I did not find a lot. Maybe I am not looking hard enough.
I have noticed really good male drummers earning lower views than some female drummers, though the male drummer may be better. So, here is the flip side to this issue.
Also, good musicians will always appreciate the others even if they are rivals. Do not let the criticism get you; accept the ones that are good and ignore those that are a pathetic attempt at getting you down. If it was not for the criticism I would never continue to learn and improve. Anyways, best of luck in your journey of becoming a better drummer.

The more you make it about gender, the shittier the drumming will be. Drums is male-dominated. It's great you've accepted that. That being said, that doesn't mean you cannot be a great drummer and/or drum artist. Lead with your talent, your skills, don't be a bitch, and ppl will take notice.

You are way too hard on yourself. You are an excellent drummer. Do not let a few negative people get you down. I really liked your Pikalar album. I think it is important for you to pick some musicians to get a group together and record more albums and tour the world and see how the rest of the world reacts to your drumming. Drumming is only ONE part of a whole band. With a good band (maybe you already have a good band. ) you will shine more. Looking forward to your next album keep them coming.

This is Great, i Hope & Pray & Wish My Niece, would take up Drumming, she would be a Great Drummer, i did show her a few thing's. On Drum's Like the double pedal & first lesson & she could do it at the age of 9, & she's now 10 she would be Amazing her name is Stephanie, but she made it sound Awesome, & she can play the Double Bass Pedal for really long on one kick pedal, i would be lucky if i can do it for a second but i'm old now 31 year's old may not be old but your bone's do last for ever that's why niece should take up drumming for Australia. I just Hope & Pray That My Niece, Keep's Going with Here Drumming. Your Awesome Anika Nilles, Keep On Rocking :-) :-) .

It's a shame Anika feels more readily/harshly criticised as a female player but at the same time it's almost understandable to a certain point. Drumming is without question a male dominated art form, and so when someone comes along that challenges the norm, us men can get quite defensive, stupidly enough.
She's my favourite female drummer hands down, and to be perfectly honest she's in my top list of drummers in general. It must be really difficult to compete not only with the competition (which is fierce) but to add this gender hurdle in the mix as well, I have so much respect for her for that.
If she or anyone else finds this a condescending or offensive attitude then I apologise and it's not at all what I'm intending. I'm merely trying to empathise that she's had odds stacked against her and highlight her strength to overcome certain obstacles related to her gender.
For the record, her technique is a thing of beauty, and she has no need at all to feel self-conscious about it.

I know this might not be a popular thing to say, but I'm not certain whether this "more harshly criticized because woman" is real or just a feeling she has.
Obviously, when you're the drummer on stage at a drum clinic, _everyone_ is looking at you, your technique and perhaps anything you might do "wrong". That is one of the reasons why people go to these clinics...
Also, I think every drummer that goes "public" like she does (i.e. not being the nameless guy / girl in a band, but putting their names out there) will always get more criticism than the "nameless ones".
Basically, I'm not entirely convinced that she's really more harshly criticized than her male colleagues or, even if she is, that that criticism is due to her gender. She plays unique stuff and is really recognizable, which is part of the reason why I like her stuff so much... but that also attracts critics.
Would say it's the opposite, women typically get a lot of praise because they take up instruments not typical of females. Gender doesn't matter, skill does. Anika rips it on the drums and destroys most male drummer around, so not really with you why she would be more critized? This "feeling" of yours that she's being harshly criticized is just a white knight instinct of yours.
Erm, except this 'feeling' is actually what she said smart ass. She literally said she feels like she's more readily criticised than male drummers. Do you try to understand things you watch before you rush to the comments section and try stretch the intellectual biceps?
