4th the deck cut was telling, and kept the 9 clubs under control. How did Derren get the participant to chose the 9 clubs? Nice addition of the 9 spades pretend fluff for extra effect!

He reinforces Clubs when he purposely mistakes her choice of Spades, so she has to correct him. Also, "Lucky Charm," only having 4 cards and needing "to complete this hand" would leads to the 5 as the seemingly obvious choice. No guarantee though. Did he have pockets full of other cards as back-up? "How could you possibly know?" Probably comes into play as mental gaming also.

Idk. I love watching Derren Brown. But I'm also a table games specialist. And if that is an experienced dealer, or croupier, she would have noticed immediately how bent and crimped the other club cards were. In a professional setting like that, there is no normal reason for those cards to be so bent and crimped. It is a major giveaway to his techniques. It is a lot easier to figure out how things are done when you know what to look for. In this case, it really stands out. Have to say, though, that it doesn't make Darren any less awesome!

I don't think he'd mind a quick million in his back pocket. Derren is brilliant, probably The Best in the world, and he seems to get better and better all the time. I love his acts and shows. He is one of my heros. I'd love to meet him.

In his books he has admitted he frequently uses stooges and that all his hypnosis is fakery. In this trick we see him use elements of card magic along with what I assume is work from stooges to create great effects which seem impossible. He really isn't the hypnotist most believe.
John Smith He absolutely used stooges, but to say all of his hypnosis is fake is a bit of an exaggeration. He will often use things that look like a suggestive (hypnotic) routine, but actually aren't. That to say, he still has hypnosis shows quite regularly, and hypnosis is what moves him out of the realm of card magic. Derren is a phenomenal card magician, but he also is an excellent hypnotist.
Yes, I suppose you are right; I did make a slight exaggeration. It is true that Derren is great at the areas of hypnosis which are real but as you said most of what he conveys as hypnosis isn't so. I honestly don't know much about the truth of complex hypnosis and have always been a skeptic but I know he can use simple thought manipulation techniques exceptionally.

It's not "Mind Control" like many people think of it, it's simply using persuasive techniques to wrap their mind around a single idea. Turning their focus onto something.
