In Pokemon Sword and Shield, the Galar region is full of so many British-inspired Pokemon! LOADS of the old Pokemon that live here have okay reasoning for why they are here as well, but some of them seem strange at first glance. Why is Shiftry in Galar? Why is Ludicolo in Galar? Why is Mawile in Galar? Why is Froslass in Galar? and What is Centiskorch based on?

I believe Froslass could be a reference to Frozen Charlotte. Charlotte was the name of a popular toy in Victorian England, a porcelain doll to be exact. She came with a story attached. Charlotte was invited to a Winter’s Ball, and needed to ride a sleigh to get to it. Her mother told her to wear a thick fur coat, but Charlotte was vain and decided not to because it would cover up her expensive dress, which she wanted to show off to anybody who saw her on her journey. When she arrived to the ball, her skin had become ice and “as fragile as porcelain.” So Frozen Charlotte dolls were intended as both toys and warnings, against vanity and staying out in the cold.

Also likely a reference to Snow Queen. The story goes that a little boy and a little girl were friends therefore, they were having fun but one day, the Snow Queen visits their village. To cut to the point, she kissed the boy and freeze him alive and took him away. Similar to Froslass's pokedex entery isn't it?

As an English person, I'd like to give my two penny's on these pokemon being in the galar region:
Centiscorch: it is well known that british people hate the cold. Can't stand it. We require heat to survive. Hot insect provides the warmth.
Frosslass and glaelie: it is well known that British people hate the warmth. Can't stand it. We're picky bastard like that. Nice cold pokemon to make the summer bearable.
Shiftry: England is full of trees. The trees do not like us, if the amount of twigs that have fallen in my wellys is anything to go by. Shifty is a shifty tree, like the rest of the English trees.
The Ludicolo line: they look like ducks. England is practically owned by the ducks. Ponds are an essential In an English countryside, and the ducks come free with them like a buy one get fifteen free deal.
Baltoy and claydol: they are about as physically attractive as you're average English person. We aren't exactly known for being lookers. It's a subtle jab at the fact that under our moustaches and bowlar hats we all secretly have five extra eyes.
Dunsparce: it's name sounds like dunce. Victorians kids loved the word so much they made hats out of them.
Mawlie: English people have tempers on them, so a crocodile mouthed child fits the attitude of most british playgrounds and their kill or be killed attitude.

The Bounsweet line is based on Mangosteen, a tropical fruit. I highly doubt they can grow in the UK without a greenhouse. The Joltik line is based on tarantulas. They shouldn't be able to live that far north naturally. (Sure, New York wouldn't work either but at least there are native tarantulas in the United States further south.) The Manectric line is based on a combination of raiju and the maned wolf, neither of which belong in the UK. The Munna line is based on the baku which in turn is based on tapirs. Malaysia was part of the British Empire at one point but I think it's a bit of a stretch. Maractus is a cactus. That's about it. It really doesn't belong in such a northerly environment and it's a pretty underwhelming Pokemon, too.

Form change is also the most common trait with all the gen 8 pokemon. Specially with dynamax and gigantamax being the main new mechanics for the games, not to mention that many pokemon in the galar region have more than one form like toxtricity, applin, sinistea, alcreamie, eiscue, indeede and technically the fossil pokemon and cramorant too. To prove this even further, the pikachu clones of each generation tend to represent the some of the main news traits of each generation. And form change being the trait in gen 8 can clearly be seeing in morpeko and its two forms.
Which explains why so many pokemon with more than one form or evolution ended up being part of the gen 8 dex like oddish line, froslass, glalie, spurr line, hippowdon, ralts line and wishi washi.

    Hi lockstin! Love your work!
I especially liked the short theories you used to do!
I was hoping to bring them back by suggesting a few ideas:
-How do physical psychic moves work? With other types it works (how hard do you strike with elemental punch or draconic sorcery infused claw)
But psychic is different...it's exclusively power from the mind..taking physical form with psycho-cut? Perhaps. But then, how do psychic fangs work? Dracovish doesn't seem like the kind of pokemon with enough psychic power to manifest them into a bite.
-How does Scrappy work? It seems to enable the pokemon to go beyond the boundaries of the dead and living world for it to strike it's ghostly foe. But that's impossible! Right...?
-any theory regarding the creation and lake trios is welcome
