So the villain is definitely going to develop. Sojo, the current wielder of Cloud Gouger is a scholar and a fan of the 7 blades, enough to study the very philosophy and mindset of their creator. He was under the assumption that Chihoros dad , their creator was a bloodthirsty warmonger , the fact that he was actually a kind and just man freaked him out to the point where he questioned everything he knew about him. But the thing is, the swords have three base abilities that are insane. What we just found out is that the wielder can basically manifest their own abilities that reflect their fighting spirit. Chihiro being weakened decided to do a death by a thousand cuts. Since he can’t do one powerful slash, he made hundreds of small ones. That is NOT one of his blades base abilities. So what I’m seeing for Kagurabachi is Sojo being something like Mahito, a developed villain that we want dead.
Sojo isn't super deep rn, but I'd say he's solid. Relishes in evil, has a connection to the MC because of their opposite views on his dad and the swords and they also have kinda opposite personalities.

The pacing of the story is superb like there isn’t a moment where I’m bored yet. Ch 15 is the best one by far. Subtle world building and character development on par with wheel of time. Sheesh.
Maybe we'll get more and more personality behind chihiro. Hes always been stonedface seemingly but we haven't seen too much and he could develop more personality with age.

I wasnt aware about how much the first chapter meme went hard but their recurring presence are why i started the series. The first chapter was ok, but by ch.3 i saw the potential. Indeed what consolidated my appreciation for the series is Sojo. It's so rare to see a competent villain.

I haven't read it since release but im now interested in diving into this magical world of swords and socerey , I think I will pick up when it reaches chapter 30 to see which direction the creator wants it to go considering its using many similar tropes we've seen used already.

Went into this manga thinking it was kind of a joke because of the hype that it got (to which I still have no clue where it even started), but it's kinda established itself as a series that I think will stick around if done right from here. The concept, characters and the world-building is pretty cool albeit some people calling it "standard shonen".

The story is essentially a story about nuclear weapons, weapons that were invented to end and awful war, but terrorists want to get their hands on to cause terror and do what they want to the world. These weapons were extremely hard to create using a deadly resource that is unstable and killed and harmed people trying to learn how it's used. Chihiro is fighting to preserve the peace, the same peace (mostly) that nuclear weapons brought in, while now that the other swords have been stolen the people in the know are now scared of the danger this may cause, out right stating how dangerous two enchanted blades fighting against each other are, this mimics the US/USSR cold war and the modern raising fear over countries such as N.K gaining nukes. It's not the most original story, as many stories have been made to mimic the danger of nukes, especially in Japan, but I think it's doing it in a fun way and I've enjoyed every chapter so far
I think the thing with what chihiro is fighting for could be very interesting because is he fighting for peace or revenge? I know it seems obvious he’s fighting for both basically but I feel like people forget kagura bachi is a revenge story very different from most shonen mc main goals he wants to kill the people who killed his dad and most likely along with it retrieve the 6 swords to keep the peace while also keeping his father legacy in check

my main issue rn is the concept, like as the story is laid out at least in these first few chapters it seems very "villain of the week", and i could definitely see a bad future where the rest of the story is just "new bad guy with enchanted sword" etc etc until he gets all the swords
I doubt it could go that way since there are only 6 that he has to get, and I'm definitely excited to see how those will be gained. Like, Cloud Gouger, that the villain has, it could be gained by combat or by making him break. The second one is won in that auction, etc. There could be different ways of attaining each sword.

yeah, it's in the same place as early JJK: solid and has the potential to become great, but not guaranteed to reach that. In JJK's case, of course, it became pretty great, but to give a counter-example, I considered Monster #8 to be in that same starting point but it ended up failing to meet my expectation.

There are so many great manga that just don't get the attention they deserve like Choujin X, Gachiakuta or Undead Unluck and out of all the manga that deserve it because they have a great story, fresh ideas and/or god tier art... THIS ONE RIGHT HERE got all the attention not because of one of these qualities but simply because the MC looks edgy. Don't get me wrong, Kagurabachi could turn out to get really good, maybe it really is already, but the fact that this is the reason it is getting popular really gives me a hard time to give it a serious chance.
