This was honestly the smartest move for the first generation of Avengers final movie (supposedly from rumors) so them going face to face with a possible with a possible Tony stark variant will be extremely personal and emotional for the og Avengers which is the perfect farewell if they indeed are saying goodbye, the perfect formula for a movie, especially with the Russo brothers at the helm.
Maybe at the end of the fantastic movie during the universe being destroyed the Tony Stark variant of Dr. doom cross paths with the original Dr. doom from the fantastic 4 universe and that OG Dr. doom is intercepted by Kang and we move forward for a while with the Tony start variant and secret wars. We might see the return of the OG Dr. doom working with kang

Doom has no reason to take off his mask. It’s not a disguise for him; his disfigurement is the key reason he wears it in the first place. Still not feeling this, but do think RDJ skills is up to it if no one else will play the role.
I gotta admit I really liked the 2005 Dr doom. It was a good plot device how when the solar storm hit, he didn't wait for the other characters and protected himself behind the shield, and that is how he starts morphing into the shield material which gives him unique powers to the fantastic 4.

They've actually already laid the groundwork for this in Loki. In season 1, we're told that He Who Remains was born in the 31st century (assumed to be Nathaniel Richards) and we find out that is a Kang variant. In season 2 we find another Kang variant, but this is named Victor Timely and born in the 19th century. I think Doom will be the same. It is a Tony Stark variant from the FF movie's alternate Earth but born earlier in the timeline and named Victor Von Doom.
You're forgetting about the timeline comic where DOOM switches his brain and consciousness with TONY STARK. Instead of Reed being Doom's roommate, it's Stark.

From the moment they announced this, I’ve been excited for it. The storytelling that is on the table now is insane! Seeing the Avengers deal with a Doom who looks like Tony would mess with everyone’s heads in a unique way.

Having him play Doom, a totally new character, while onscreen with other former actors (spider-man) over multiple movies simply wouldn't work. As a fake "Doom" RDJ gets to play evil Iron Man, hype the MCU, and make the real Doom an even bigger threat for being able to manipulate Tony Stark. As for RDJ's ego, I don't know about that, but I'm sure the creativity of the project and the massive paycheque won him over. :)

Hear me out. Victor Doom is a different guy, his world is being destroyed by an incursion. He learns from Deadpool and Wolverine that a new anchor can be added to a universe and it can survive. The 616 universes anchor was Tony Stark. So doom takes over his universes Tony starks body and brings him to the 616 universe so he can survive, because he cannot exist in another universe and use his original body. As you said there is a comic line where doom takes over tonys body.

I don't know why people are upset about this Kang was never going to work after Quantumania bombed and Jonathan Majors got arrested even if they recast it would always be compared to Jonathan Majors it was just not going to work. He’d have to be a tony stark who took on the mantle of Doom. Otherwise it’d make less sense with how they’ve presented the multiverse. He could still have the doom backstory but that’s highly unlikely that we get a full backstory on him anyways. Either way execution and explanation will be more important rather than if it’s a variant or not. No matter if you like this choice or not it could end up being really great or mediocre at worst.

I think RDJ is playing evil Stark Doom variant, but that will just be a introduction to Dr Doom, via non traditional variant at first. RdJ playing evil Stark Doom, is just a set up, not the whole reveal. Evil Stark Doom is just a Dual Setup 1st for an introduction to Dr. DOOM via non traditional Doom first to payoff for the real Doom. 2nd for a set up to a non evil Stark variant that requires RDJ to still have him act as Iron Man all over again. They will introduce a true Doom by a different actor Later. Casting Robert Downey Jr. is perfect. It opens the possibilities of Tony Stark either being a variant in the Multiverse that went extreme with his obsession to protect the world or Tony Stark never really died at all because his nanotechnology fused with him during his snap and repaired him internally but not externally (hence the doom mask). And the best way he felt he could defend the earth, going forward, was to take matters into his own hand and go covert and underground. It would be a great story-arc, pitting him as the main antagonist that turns into the very villain he’s trying to protect the world from. Ending the Avengers Saga with the actor and the character they started with. It’s perfect!!!👌🏾

This Doom being a Tony variant could have some credence to it as we've seen a similar case like this already **SPOILERS FOR DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE** When Deadpool meets Chris Evan's Human Torch, he immediately thinks he's Cap, before he flames on of course. This is obviously a fourth wall joke but maybe this could act as a clever set up for a qualification of characters being variants of one another. This qualification being based on actors who played them. So like despite Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers in the comics being completely separate characters with separate orgins, in terms of the MCU cannon Cap and Torch could be implied as variants of each other just because they look alike.
If this Dr. Doom is from the Sacred Timeline, there can possibly be a retcon that Tony had a twin brother named Victor that he may or may not have known anything about and they were somehow separated at birth.
The MCU is starting to become interesting again, Doom is finally making an appearance. I also really hope we get to see Spiderman acquire the symbiote like he did in the comics.

Fan theory, Doom origin, In the F4 universe Howard Stark is born 60 years ahead of time and he is a genius like most universes. The winter solider assassination event happens in a different fashion, but unlike just killing the Starks they destroy a lot more which brings Tony’s life at risk too, here Tony is less then a year old child. In order to save Tony they somehow end up in Latveria and die there and Tony ends up getting adopted by Cynthia Von Doom. Alternative Doom origin, In the F4 universe Howard Stark is born 60 years ahead of time and he is named Warner Von Doom. He is from Latveria instead and marries Cynthia (may or may not be a variant of Maria Stark), their son is Victor Von Doom (RDJ), hence the face resemblance. Doom with the fantastic4 travels to our main 616 timeline. There he notices how big Stark is and all the technological marvel. Some random dude confuses Doom with Stark and later he inherits everything Stark owns. He now has multiverse knowledge, Stark’s money, tech, gov contacts, power and great love and respect from people around the world. With all this he can instantly raise to power, and get shaped as the big bad. Now that people love him and all, he can turn up to something like Homelander.
The big problem with this is: a) Doom has had absolutely no setup whatsoever (Thanos was teased for years before Infinity War) b) Are we all just supposed to forget about the Multiversal threat from Kang? I'd still like to see the Kang story finished off, with or without Jonathan Majors
Same but I’d rather that but this isn’t a bad alternative. Doom still has time for a buildup. The have projects slated that they could pop him in even after F4. It won’t be a long buildup but it doesn’t have to be to be good. But I also wish they had just kept Johnathan Majors or at the very least recast which wouldn’t be hard since we dealing with the multiverse. I 100% sure Marvel will at least write him off and acknowledge him instead of just leaving that thread. While everyone is hype for upcoming movies I’m hyped for a restart/reboot. New og avengers lineups, F4, Mutant and inhumans. A blank slate would be great after secret wars and they could start with any team and any lineup.

The only problem with this theory is that the Russos said onstage that he is specifically playing Victor Von Doom, and not a Stark variant, but I get this was probably made before you watched the whole presentation.

I think RDJ is back to hype the MCU, but he's really playing a Tony Stark varient not the real Doom. Real Latvian Doom is a new actor puppeting RDJ as a sort of proxy. RDJ Doom will get killed after a couple movies and real Doom will take over.

Having him play Doom, a totally new character, while onscreen with other former actors (spider-man) over multiple movies simply wouldn't work. As a fake "Doom" RDJ gets to play evil Iron Man, hype the MCU, and make the real Doom an even bigger threat for being able to manipulate Tony Stark.
As for RDJ's ego, I don't know about that, but I'm sure the creativity of the project and the massive paycheque won him over. :)

Hear me out. Victor Doom is a different guy, his world is being destroyed by an incursion. He learns from Deadpool and Wolverine that a new anchor can be added to a universe and it can survive. The 616 universes anchor was Tony Stark. So doom takes over his universes Tony starks body and brings him to the 616 universe so he can survive, because he cannot exist in another universe and use his original body. As you said there is a comic line where doom takes over tonys body.

I don't know why people are upset about this Kang was never going to work after Quantumania bombed and Jonathan Majors got arrested even if they recast it would always be compared to Jonathan Majors it was just not going to work. So I think pivoting to Doctor Doom is a Great Idea since He's One of The Most Iconic Characters in all of Marvel and I was Shocked at first too that it was Robert Downey Jr. but thinking about it, It actually makes Perfect Sense. RDJ was The Main Hero of The Infinity Saga and now He's The Main Villain of The Multiverse Saga. Both are Armored Characters and having it be a Tony Stark Variant works Perfectly in This Multiverse Saga. And I don't think that they don't have enough time to Introduce Him Properly I mean Thanos was barely in any MCU Movie until Infinity War. Sure He had Small Appearances in a couple of Post Credits Scenes and in The First Guardians Of The Galaxy but The First Time He got to really have the spotlight was Infinity War so I think They Do have enough time to Properly Introduce Him and then have Him be The Main Villain in Doomsday and Secret Wars. He’d have to be a tony stark who took on the mantle of Doom. Otherwise it’d make less sense with how they’ve presented the multiverse. He could still have the doom backstory but that’s highly unlikely that we get a full backstory on him anyways. Either way execution and explanation will be more important rather than if it’s a variant or not. No matter if you like this choice or not it could end up being really great or mediocre at worst.

Traumatized by the battle of NYC and even after the events of AoU, Stark still was obsessed with humanity being ultimately vulnerable, "powerless" to defend itself against some cosmic level like threat. Power is what drives Doom's persona and hunger. They introduced him on stage as an exemple of the multiverse's infinite possibilities. This Doom is a variant of Stark.

I think RDJ is playing evil Stark Doom variant, but that will just be a introduction to Dr Doom, via non traditional variant at first. RdJ playing evil Stark Doom, is just a set up, not the whole reveal.
Evil Stark Doom is just a Dual Setup 1st for an introduction to Dr. DOOM via non traditional Doom first to payoff for the real Doom.
2nd for a set up to a non evil Stark variant that requires RDJ to still have him act as Iron Man all over again. They will introduce a true Doom by a different actor Later.

Casting Robert Downey Jr. is perfect. It opens the possibilities of Tony Stark either being a variant in the Multiverse that went extreme with his obsession to protect the world or Tony Stark never really died at all because his nanotechnology fused with him during his snap and repaired him internally but not externally (hence the doom mask). And the best way he felt he could defend the earth, going forward, was to take matters into his own hand and go covert and underground. It would be a great story-arc, pitting him as the main antagonist that turns into the very villain he’s trying to protect the world from. Ending the Avengers Saga with the actor and the character they started with. It’s perfect!!!👌🏾

This is obviously a fourth wall joke but maybe this could act as a clever set up for a qualification of characters being variants of one another. This qualification being based on actors who played them. So like despite Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers in the comics being completely separate characters with separate orgins, in terms of the MCU cannon Cap and Torch could be implied as variants of each other just because they look alike.

The winter solider assassination event happens in a different fashion, but unlike just killing the Starks they destroy a lot more which brings Tony’s life at risk too, here Tony is less then a year old child. In order to save Tony they somehow end up in Latveria and die there and Tony ends up getting adopted by Cynthia Von Doom.
Alternative Doom origin,
In the F4 universe Howard Stark is born 60 years ahead of time and he is named Warner Von Doom. He is from Latveria instead and marries Cynthia (may or may not be a variant of Maria Stark), their son is Victor Von Doom (RDJ), hence the face resemblance.
Doom with the fantastic4 travels to our main 616 timeline. There he notices how big Stark is and all the technological marvel. Some random dude confuses Doom with Stark and later he inherits everything Stark owns. He now has multiverse knowledge, Stark’s money, tech, gov contacts, power and great love and respect from people around the world. With all this he can instantly raise to power, and get shaped as the big bad. Now that people love him and all, he can turn up to something like Homelander.

a) Doom has had absolutely no setup whatsoever (Thanos was teased for years before Infinity War)
b) Are we all just supposed to forget about the Multiversal threat from Kang?

Same but I’d rather that but this isn’t a bad alternative. Doom still has time for a buildup. The have projects slated that they could pop him in even after F4. It won’t be a long buildup but it doesn’t have to be to be good. But I also wish they had just kept Johnathan Majors or at the very least recast which wouldn’t be hard since we dealing with the multiverse. I 100% sure Marvel will at least write him off and acknowledge him instead of just leaving that thread. While everyone is hype for upcoming movies I’m hyped for a restart/reboot. New og avengers lineups, F4, Mutant and inhumans. A blank slate would be great after secret wars and they could start with any team and any lineup.
