  • September 12, 1985, KMOT-TV, Minot, ND - I remember, as a child, going to the drive-in theater, packed in the car with my brother and sisters, loaded up with popcorn cooked at home, bottles of pop in a cooler and other munchies. So when I heard the Starlite Outdoor Theater in Minot was permanently closed and the land up for sale, I had to do a story on this cultural tragedy. Al Schon, manager of both the Starlite and the Cine 7 Theaters at the mall, did a great job explaining the inevitable end of the drive-in as a result of changing social habits. To emphasize the movie "texture" for the story, I used quick movie clips throughout the story with appropirate sound bites to match the flow of the story. I had a lot of fun with this piece. Transferred from 3/4 inch videotape via ADVC 300 and into iMovie HD. From Keith Darnay's personal video collection.
