His nose has always been messed up (For Years from what I know). He mentioned that he can't breathe correctly in the video. He got Surgery a couple Months back and he put it in his Instagram. I feel his Cardio is going to be 1000000000x better but I feel Rob is still going to be a tough Fight.
The thing is that Dricus keeps the same pace even when being exhausted, and as far as I can see, this has never happened in the UFC. Dricus definitely have the will and the hits that are like a truck to make it in the UFC

Justin Gaethje was the same, he had problems breathing and was gasing out but kept a steady pace the whole time
he made it far into the rankings especially with the level of comp and pace, IF his nose really got fixed he might be problem with his well rounded game and power
i sympathize with Dricus on the nose breathing thing, i had the exact same situation, couldn't breath at all through one side and the other was like a pin hole, totally impossible to just close your mouth and breath, it ruins your sleep and recovery too, waking up choking for air multiple times in the night because you subconsciously close your mouth when you sleep. After i got mine fixed it was like i just installed a new set of gears in my cardio, could run for miles without getting tired, endurance went through the roof. He will be a totally different beast when he gets that fixed.
I have one nostril that closes very often and doesn’t let much air in and while I don’t wake up in the night, I always breath heavy in a morning because of it before I recover.
Shits so annoying, and what’s evens worse is that all the doctors recommend the same garbage products that don’t work

Dricuss is kind of an inspiration for people with cardio issues cause he learns to work with it. He uses power, a good chin and grappling strength to keep the pace at his lvl. And just learned how to fight tired and at a disadvantage.

Kimbo vs Dada 5000 probably the oddest fight I ever saw live...it was two overweight guys with heart conditions going at it...they were exhausted on another level. (r.i.p Kimbo) Ngannou vs Lewis is a close second they were both terrified of each other the whole fight and only landed 30 significant strikes COMBINED.

Everything is out of sync, I love Dricus since I've had the honor of sparring him. And I can say from personal experience he has the worst footwork I have ever seen from a fighter that beat my ass.
His technique isn’t ugly AT ALL. He has really solid fundamentals with his striking form, what you’re seeing is actually him launching those strikes from awkward and unconventional angles and positions. I’ve been a boxing coach since I was 17 (I started boxing when I was 3 years old, so I’ve been involved in combat sports my whole life) and he has very solid punch fundamentals.

Story of my life. My nose always has been my biggest enemy in my Rugby and MMA carrier my whole life. Right side is partially blocked and left is as good as completely blocked.
From my own personal experience I totally feel Du Plesis and how amazing he feels after getting his nose fixed.
Had the same problem, go get surgery bro, it’s not that expensive even in SA. Made things so much better for me.

Crazy how Darren and Derek could have won their fights since Dricus was very careless with his blitzing and left him wide open for counter shots. His cardio is so far obviously the biggest issue and alot of opps could have used it against him, especially Derek fumbled the bag like crazy. Let's just say that I'm not counting this guy out like at all... but he's fighting Bobby Knuckles and we all know that Bobby went 10 rounds with Yoel (even tho he prolly lost the second fight) and had some absolute bangers. I really like both of them. Dricus is a really nice fellow, I met him at an airport about a year ago.

Nah. I mean they had their good moment sure, but you can say that for a lot of guys guys Dricus fought and then proceeded beat up like he just beat them up. Dricus simply a notch higher than them. The likes of Whittaker and Israel is most likely a step too high for him too, but it'll be a fun fight for sure, he has a ton of grit.
I don't think his cardio is as big of a problem as how high he keeps his chin. His cardio can't be a problem if he's still throwing hands. Then he needs to keep his balance the way he did in the Tavares fight without stumbling around so much. But 1 in like 20 change he beats Rob. Rob beats izzy rn imo

I've followed Dricuss from him being champ here in Africa. People dont know this but he has been champion of some monsters here in Africa. When he went to the ufc guys think he is a newbie and make him fight low ranked fighters who are fairly new in MMA. If you go back and replay the video he's mentioned before his Nose has been messed up for a while and that he can't breathe properly. He had Surgery a couple Months back.
@@mikalnewmark951 haters still tried to say he was lying about that, but if he can breathe fully post-surgery, and he did what he did with limited breathing, he's gonna be a problem for whatever division he's in.
I believe he has a better chance against Whittaker than almost everyone is giving him credit for. For one, he has insanely good cardio for the pace he fights at, and it can only improve now that he's fixed his nose. Secondly, he's got an incredible chin and toughness. Thirdly, and maybe most importantly, is his fighting spirit. In the UFC it's rare to find guys that fight balls to the wall like he does with most of their focus on offense. The other two guys who fight like that off the top of my head are Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, and both of them are UFC champions, despite their lack of defense at times.
I don't know what it is, but fighters with that kind of borderline insane offensive mindset always seem to make it further than traditional logic would predict.
I'm pulling for him, to shut the fans up.

It seems utterly ridiculous to think that a guy getting his nose fixed makes his cardio insane enough that he beats one of the world's best middleweights easier than almost all of his earlier fights.

Dricus does a really good job of mixing his punches,kicks, and take downs making it difficult for his opponents to get a clean shot . This provides generous offensive opportunities.

As another comment mentioned, he is a very big, muscular and explosive dude. This is extremely energy intensive (which is why usman is such a special case). But what makes DDP so special special is he has a massive heart and his determination is almost unmatched. That's why he can go into deeper waters and drag his opponent down with him, a place he knows very well. Notice how his opponents also start looking sloppy and tired as the fight progresses. That's because both fighters are exhausted.

Mike Perry vs Du Plessis for African king of MMA
I had the same problem and needed to get my nose repaired after 5 years of muay thai and 2 years of bjj. It sucks. On one hand, it will make your nose more prone to breaking. But, if you don't get it done, you can't breath well during your matches. One thing I did that helped, was start training with a mouth full of water. Go hit a heavy bag for 4-5 rounds with water in your mouth. That, and always train with a mouthgaurd in. Your body will adjust to the lack of oxygen by making more red blood cells.
The other problem you have with your nose constantly blocked, is getting hit with your mouth wide open. So, now I need TMJ surgery as well. I'm 38. It may be time to start my coaching career...
I guess its kinda biased as a South African to say that Dricus is the best in the division but what this man means to South African mix martial arts and this down bad shit country(do me a favor and search 'Loadshedding South Africa" its actually hilarious what we endure here) is quite alot. His cardio issues I believe are definitely a thing of the past and Dricuses fighting style is just different and unique he kinda fights like every other dude in a street fight would but just always ends up on top.

Breathing through ones mouth isnt an immediate sign of fatigue. Sergiy Derevyanchenko in boxing is a very heavy breather. During his fight with Daniel Jacobs, the commentators wouldnt shut up about how tired he was. Round after round they would bring up his heavy breathing... meanwhile Sergiy was outworking Jacobs. In fact, not only did he outwork Jacobs, he threw more punches in the second half of the fight than the first. And the last 3 rounds were his highest output of the night.
Looks can be deceiving. DDP isnt always fatigued, even tho it might look like it.

When youre gassed in a fight it makes you commit to better decisions in shorter distances, its weird but it sometimes puts you in this insane space of focus.

DDP just 1 of those guys that fights never look pretty but I'm telling you that unorthodox reckless style a problem to deal with and mix that in with good power a solid chin and a lowkey well rounded skillset and you have someone you cant just overlook

Man, I understand that DDP has SLOPPY standup... but I think he might give Izzy fits.
Izzy isn't a knockout guy. He's a volume guy. DDP seems willing to walk through punches to get to the inside, and once he gets there he has a solid takedown/ground game, which is going to make it difficult for a volume puncher like Izzy. And it's not like Izzy can just focus on defending the takedown. DDP has KO power in those wild punches! Izzy is going to have to keep his hands up to defend his head, which leaves him open to the takedown. It just seems like a tough matchup stylistically for Izzy.

Almost every time Du Plessis throws that one two he leaves himself wide open. If Robert could weave the two and respond with a well placed hook it may be a quick night.
Whittaker doesn’t hit nearly as hard as any of the guys dricus has already fought. If Whittaker wins its via dominant decision.
