Have some respect for yourselves with what you say. Dig deep and then portray that same respect outwardly with authenticity to others. Every day, why not aim to inspire one person, just one, so that they might see a path past their own ignorance. How you perceive what I'm saying is a clear reflection of that. The age of hiding behind the masks you all wear is over.

Iaido and Kendo are the sport versions of Bugeido Combat Sword forms. Yea, your right; but hey she can spin the sword pretty good, but I would think not to do this with a real Sword that is sharp or you might cut your feet off. Fencing or using the rapier you always grab you rear waist or belt to keep your off sword hand from being in the way of the blade in front of you. Chinese Jian they use two fingers to touch the wrist or point rearwards away fron the direction of the Jian to get the other hand out of the way too. The problem is that even in Indonesian and Filipino Blade usage they either have another blade, stick or keep the live hand crossed around the forarm to keep from cutting themselves. This is in fact a show. Also, Japanese Swordsmen do not scream when using the sword. At least not the ones I have seen? Still I like her spins as they are really nice. However, she lacks the combat forms.

This looks more like Iaido? In Japanese Bugeido or Combatives the forms are smooth and do not stop and do very little spinning except when the battle is done. The combat forms essentially do not kick or punch as you will lose your limbs if you do. That is how you know the Sword combative from the Art and Cultural preservation form of Medatative Iaido.

@@stevechan6244 As a 25 year practitioner of Iaido I would say no. Yes there is the drawing of the sword from the scabbard, but that is about it. It is a mashup of different martial art styles combined into a performance, but lacks the concentration and technique that I would consider good swordsmanship. On one hand I have issues with such things as sword grip, mechanics of how the cut is made to be effective cut, and even the way she sits down as being unrealistic, etc, but on the other hand she obviously has spend a lot of time practicing and has gotten her routine down pretty good. A weird combination of wanting to criticize but also acknowledge her effort and dedication.

My Martial background includes my Uncle Brendan Lai's of the 7 Stars Praying Mantis strategy also called Tong Long Pai. However, that is not my main play for fun. I am into Kun Tao and Silat and have been doing it as a Family Art since Tong Long Pai has no lower body Movement. Kun Tao that I play with consists of Eagle, Tiger (Pai Yune), Ling Sing Toy (Twin Dragons of the Fukien Temple of Shaolin), Xíng-Zhě-Mén (行者門) named after the protagonist Sun Wukong or simply Wu Kung Kung Fu and not WuShu the sport. My integrated Silat consistes of: Cimande, Cikalong, Teje Monjet (variation of Monkey), Pentjak, Bali Manankabao/Bali Kun Tao, and Haku Akai Karate that I have forgotten since I did that when I was in my teens under Soke Bernard Edwards. I also have a background in Danzan Jujitsu and Shingatai Jujitsu as well. I tried Togakure Ninpo Taijitsu but found the movements based mainly of Ukemi that is over laid upon regular jujitsu since most of the Ninja were Ronin and were essentially out cast from the Caste System of Feudal Japan. The Art of Stealing in is just Gorilla Warfare. I am old and I do not teach what I know except to my children because what is the use? Awful. Half the pointless movements, the unnecessary twists and ending with the sword tangled in your own clothes and what that entails of being a real sword and not a prop like this, not to mention that this is not done in either Iaido or kenjutsu Not even kendo, maybe in an American ninja movie. And those screams at your husband? Oh Lord...
Turns and flourishes are traditional in wushu/kung fu where they have always been used because they have a different technique, and are used with two other objectives: to develop dexterity and confidence when handling your weapon, that is very typical of training, and if it is exhibited in public, show the level of skill, which is a bit like this, except that Japanese swordsmanship never had those types of elements, besides being heavier than people think, with weight pulled towards the tip , not prone to these flourishes, only a fake sword with an unreal balance allows you to do that. A total nonsense, only for applause in the competition circuit among themselves.

Martial Arts from USA, specially traditional japanese martial arts are distorted and full of useless and silly things, due to a bad comprehension of the original technique from japan, is like piracy products pretending be as good or even better than the original but made with cheap and fake materials that don't last enough to be useful. This girl is supposed to be an expert in martial arts specially handling the katana, but she is using a very light fake katana made of aluminum and her grip on the katana isn't correct, if it was a real katana she surely would get her wrist and tendoms injured due to the weight of it and the way she grabs the katana. Besides some moves and shouting are so exaggerated, there's no reason to shout while she is getting down on her knees to do "seiza no kamae" position when she was about to finish the "kata". In Japanese martial arts you make the shout (Kiai) when you strike a finishing move or when you are about to start the kata, you simply don't shout while you are adopting a resting position like seiza, that's so ridiculous, and there's no need to exaggerate. I don't know why the need to distort martial arts to make it fanciful, they are just good for hollywood movies, to show off being a fake martial artist. She needs to know and understand the real way to grab a katana and why, the grip is not with the whole hand and all the fingers and the position of the hand has to form an angle of 45° not 90° with the Tsuka (handle) and those kind of things.

Typical American style sword tech. However, if you are using Japanese sword, I'm sorry, but a sword is not originally designed to spin (centrifugal force). Learn how to use a sword from a Japanese master. Matches and actual battles are two completely different things. Learn Iaido in Japan not in USA. If you are spinning the sword in real battle, you are already dead in second.

    • @thebladeitself

      *Centripetal force.
In order for an object to turn direction, there must be a component of force perpendicular to its velocity. If the force is entirely perpendicular to the velocity, the object will travel in a circle. A sideways force acting on an object, causing it to move in a circle, is called a centripetal force.
