    Not such a great tutorial. The hakama is always worn with an obi (belt). The himo (strings) start above the obi at the back and tie below the obi at the front. The sword goes in between the second and third layer of the obi (because the wakizashi goes between the first and second layer) and comes out above the bottom himo at the side. This keeps the sword from dropping down at the back. The string on the scabbard is called a “sageo”. It is looped over the back of the scabbard and brought to the front, where it is tied to the bottom himo. Knowing how to properly tie a hakama and wear a sword is step number one in Japanese sword arts. It appears you missed that step.

      Obviously you're not a real swordsman, so let a real Ninja explain this to you:
      The inner Obi is for the Wakizashi only (except when you visit somebody of higher status, then you wear the Katana also in the inner Obi).
      For fighting you put on a 2nd outer Obi below the Hakama belt, and there you carry the Katana. This makes is easier to draw, enables special movements, and keeps you more secure in close combat, since you wont hurt your back so easily when you get pushed down, and you can carry extra stuff in the outer obi if you need, like an axe for example.

      Thank you Seki sensei. LOL. There are more schools than Asayama Ichiden Ryu (of which Seki sensei is head of a branch Dojo, not the main ryuha). So while your explanation is true for some ryuha, it is incorrect for most. It's always fun hearing from from a "real ninja".

      @@jyunte I am not Seki, I am Senshi Mamoru of the Bishojo Senshi Ryu. The Ninja was a joke of course, I'm really just a poor Shinobi no mono. But it's always good to have the Sword mobile, for various trick moves.

    What the hell is she a world champion of? This was terrible. For the record, this is *NOT* how you do it. It has similarities, but if you do it like this, you'll be tripping over your hakama a lot, and it will eventually fall off.

    • @nizzaidragon6649
      @nizzaidragon6649 Před 2 lety +2

      Actually no, there’s different ways to put the Hakama on depending on the martial art that you practice, I don’t doubt the method you know is correct by any means, I don’t mean to disrespect you, but this is the way to put it on without an obi belt and I use it like this for my Battojutsu training, you’ll only trip on the Hakama if it’s under your bellybutton meaning it’s too low which is why she explains it needs to be at the height of your bellybutton, if you do that right and your Hakama size isn’t too big for you it’s totally fine! Best regards.

    I've lived in Japan for 38 years. I've been a student of Aikido for 6 years and a student of Mugai Shinden Mugairyu Iai Heiho for 27 years. I am a member of Mugai Kai and Shibucho on Okinawa. Not all schools of Aikido wear an obi under their Hakama, but most do. I know of no style of Iaido that does not wear an obi nor wear their Hakama the way you demonstrated. Whoever taught you how to tie the Hakama needs to go back to school.

    clear directions on how NOT to tie a hakama and wear a sword. You tied your hakama backwards. An obi is always worn when wearing a sword. Also, that's not how a sageo is tied to the sword. Also, why is your sageo a literal rope. So much misinformation from a "world champion". Such a shame since the instructions are actually well delivered. Unfortunately, they're the wrong instructions
