The Truth About Teething: Everything Parents Need to Know!

  • At birth babies have 20 teeth hiding within their gums. Over the next 2.5 - 3 years these teeth are going to ‘erupt’ and break through the gums. This process is what we know as 'teething". When we can correctly identify teething signs and teething symptoms we can help relieve some of our little one's discomfort by providing teethers and other teething tips. As parents it is also important to know what are not teething symptoms as this will ensure we seek appropriate medical help when needed.
So in this video I cover when babies start teething, what is likely to be your baby's first tooth, how long teething lasts and what are and are not teething symptoms. I also share lots of teething tips and remedies to help provide teething relief for your baby. And share what teething remedies are no longer recommended and can harm your little one.

Great video. There's a lot of disparity between advisors around the start of teething symptoms. I'm constantly coming across mums online convinced their baby has been teething for weeks, even months without a tooth erupting. Many say healthcare professionals have confirmed teething! But the research says teething symptoms appear shortly before a tooth erupts.

My fiance's mom told me that my daughter was teething when she was 3 weeks old because she put her hand in her mouth/drooled. 🙄 I even asked my daughters pediatrician at her 2 month appointment just to confirm that she wasn't and when I told her that the doctor said no she just ignored me and the next time we visited her she put a frozen teething toy in my daughter's mouth without asking me first and she started screaming. It's so frustrating to have someone not accept what you're telling them and give your child things without asking first! 😡 Sorry, rant over 🤣

Hi @Sasha personally i have not use the Upseat with any of my clients. Generally I do not recommend floor seats l because this sometimes lead to babies being placed in the sitting position before they are ready. From what I have seen of the upseat and read I would say it is better then the other floor seats because it places the baby's hips slightly forward (anterior tilt) which ensures the baby does not adopt a curved back (however if your baby is sitting with a curved back they are not yet ready to sit up in these floor seats). There does appear to be a bit of space around the baby's trunk when sitting in the Upseat which means they can work on correcting their body posture if they fall very slightly off centre. I would always recommend a high chair over a floor seat for mealtimes because your baby can use it for years and sit at the dining table with the family which is important when learning to eat solids. Overall the features of the Upseat do appear better than other floor seats but personally I would use that money to purchase a god high chair and other developmental toys.

4 teeth at once at 5 months old 😭
Refrigerated teething rings and panadol (only at night and following the instructions of pharmacist) these are the only things we have been using. Won't use any gels, powders or amber, nothing that has no evidence to back it up.

Can you also make a video about baby bow legs? Please. How can we cure this? Or any tips for this. This will be a great help for us mommies. Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion - will aim to make a video on this topic soon. Most children aged 18 months to 2 years have some bow-leggedness and usually goes away without treatment, often by the time a child is 3-4 years old. But I would recommend you take your little on to the doctor so they can give you specific advice and treatment options if required.

Any other late bloomers? My little love didn’t get her first tooth till 14.5 months old. She’s now 22 months old and has only 5 teeth. I doubt she’ll have all 20 teeth by 3yo! Any teething tips for the late bloomers/ toddlers?

I think my 3 month old is definitely having gum pain. Shes been extremely fussy lately and bites on her hand and pacifier aggressively. No teeth coming through yet but I can see where there going to. I don't remember my 10 and 12 year old teething this young 🤔
