- Top Tip..How To Make It Easier Turning A Car Engine By Hand When Doing Repairs
Here's a great tip for you when you need to turn a engine by hand... if you are working on a car engine like changing a timing belt or other work where you need to rotate the engine to line things up ..this is a great way to make its a lot easier for yourself and it will make lining things up like timing marks and so on more accurate as you do not have the force of the compression in the pistons trying to move the engine out of line - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Top tip mate, never thought of doing that :)
Thanks mate. I will remove the Spark Plugs to check the Tension on my Drive Belt.
Wait so I just bought a breaker bar when I could have just jacked up the car and turned a wheel by hand... That's a great tip.
a good "old mechanics" trick there mate
I'm a good old mechanic ..😆
I'm going to try this. My trusty VW broke down at the weekend and the engine wouldn't turn by hand. I'll try to remove the glow plugs and see if this frees up the engine.
its sounds like you might have other problems there Dom ..you should be able to tun an engine by hand with the glow plugs or spark plugs still in ..it just makes it harder ..
Jack the VW up..put it in gear and use the road wheel to turn the engine ..
Do you have to take all the spark plugs out, or will just one do?
Each piston will have compression, so best to take them all out.
Definitely take them all out removing one sparkplug makes hardly any difference I've just experienced this doing a cam belt on a pain in the butt mk2 golf😂
Do you think I'll be able to fix the engine myself? I've been getting quotes of £1500 or more to fix it.
What's the problem with the engine Dominic
Other than the fact that it's seized up and won't go, I just don't know what the issue is.
lol yeah that would be a bit of a problem..I would not bother taking out the glow plugs mate...I would take out the engine instead and replace it with a secondhand one fella ...
That's what I thought you might say. Do you know where I could get one cheap? The cheapest supply and fit quote I've had is £1500. It's frustrating because the vehicle itself has only done around 25,000 miles.
Not from your end Dominic .. that's seems about right as long as you get some sort of guarantee with it
