Great video. I'm down to removing the bonnet & am hesitant because it's the original install from the 80's. A plumbing company said I'd have to keep the silver one or it would be $800 for the switchout! Aaagh! I'm wanting a matte black & Danco seems to be the only one that is compatible to the 600 series. I wish Delta would make a black finish kit!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, that's true. it would be a lot more work otherwise to change the piping behind the wall for a different fixture. I suppose you could also paint this delta kit matte black with spray paint.
Thank you for this video. I have been searching everywhere for information on my crappy old shower kit. I just replaced my tub faucet as half my water was filling the tub as I was showering (this was the case for years). Now, I want to replace my what I now know is a Delta 600 handle with something more appealing. I am hoping this will help with my slight dripping I am having, but I would bet that is due to the valve, which I am not prepared to replace at this time. I am upgrading my entire shower in the next 12-18 months. I just wanted to improve the look and functionality in the meantime. Thanks again!
This is literally the shower valve of the 30 year old apartment im living in. Inwas literally trying to repair it right now coz it was not sealinf properly and it was slightly leaking around the valve. Just manage to stop the leaking at least temporarily. Apparently overtime it gets lose
I also have the same cartridge with the ball. I think is the 600 series. However mine is flash with the wall so I installed a kit from Amazon and the leverage hits the plate. Urs is sticking out from wall which is good
@@clay.allsoppp Thanks for watching! It's hard for me to say without being able to see it but what I would do is: note the place that is leaking, and then take it back apart to see what's going on. Maybe there's just some washer that didn't set right or something didn't get tightened all the way.
@@DIYCollective Thanks for your response! It seems to be leaking from behind the ball and coming out of the front where the lever is. I tried taking the springs out and putting them back in, but it still leaks when the water is on. Do you know if this is a symptom of a bigger problem? (Like the pipes getting messed up in the disassembly?)
@@clay.allsoppp it's hard for me to know without seeing but as it's only leaking when the water is on it's probably something with the new valve and not your pipes. I'd be more worried if it was spraying without turning on the water on the valve. Maybe you got a defective one, you could try to exchange the kit. Best of luck finding the leak
Do I have to shut off the water to the house? I am not removing the cartridge or anything just replacing the faceplate and handle. I'm doing this for my grandmother's older house and not entirely sure where her main shutoff is.
@@heatherallain6860 thanks for watching . this has been installed since the video and since working like a charm. No water leaking til now, knock on wood.
Nice demo, thanks! Is there a version of the trim kit that can be used for situations where the existing installation has the built in tub diverter valve?
There's no kit that includes that I could find. But you can buy the kit and this trim piece in addition www.amazon.com/dp/B001DU1Z0U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_DMFX9MHCXN37K05ZQK7C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
yes there is but only in chrome - go to the Delta website and search for RP54780. If you want one of the other finishes then there is an option to remove and plug the tub diverter valve and install a tub spout with a diverter. The plug is available on Amazon. "Push-Button Diverter plug for Delta Model: RP2865" - search there using this.
I simply caulked the chrome on the outside after install. That's the way I've always seen it done. Doing it in and out will definitely make it ultra leak proof . Good idea
So if you put that hole in the ball at the top of the valve housing instead of the bottom, will your hot and cold be reversed? I may have played a practical joke on myself 😂😆
Hey thanks for posting this video, its the best one out there. Please can you help me confirm the holes in the original ball doesnt look like the same as the new kit. Is this okay? And also my old one has a little plastic adaptor on the tip of the stem, will that be an issue? Again thanks so much sir!
We can’t get the ring off. Didn’t want to put too much pressure on it and snap the valve. No access to the valve because it’s on the second floor, outside wall, and it’s a fiberglass insert. Gonna try putting some WD 40 on it and see if that works.
@@timsr.6706 sorry, yes we did get it off the first shower and replaced it. We have to do another one in the other bathroom tomorrow. We landed up kind of prying it off with a screw driver. The handle was different in the first shower. But we did leave the springs in that were originally there.
You forgot to lubricate the ball with heat proof grease. And that kit should have came with a crystal handle similar to the one you just took off. That style faucet does not look right with the handle you just put on there. If the handle turned left to right instead of out, then it would look nice.. they look better on the Delta sink faucets. Thanx for the video. VERY helpful dealing an old house delta tub facet. These kind of vids are timeless.
You're welcome. Thank you for the kind words. Glad it was helpful for you.
Thank you for this video. I was questioning if this kit was compatible because the handle is a different shape. You demonstrated it is!
Glad it worked out for you!
@@DIYCollectivewait a second, I just noticed there's no button diverter on yours while mine has one.

The "valve" is the ball and two rubber seats. Normally a drippy faucet just needs the two rubber seats.
I don't know why they called the valve thing a kit it's only really small and three or four or five little pieces

So you don’t need the adjustment ring on these even though it has the threads for it.
no this upgrade kit (RP54780) eliminates it - there are Q&As on the Delta website that address this.

What about the tub spout?

No there wasn't any in this case
That ring NEVER comes off that easy. Better heat it first or the 3 copper tubes will break.
