Love you review style and this video summarized combined more info than a dozen other vids on CZcams but only much more professional with real video examples. Thanks so much! Great job!
Your videos are beautiful! Just picked up the 10-18 f4 lens a couple days ago. New subscriber!
That's the lens I'm now buying as well, I've been looking for a lens that doesn't have Bokeh because I absolutely hate it and most workers at camera stores have no idea how to pick a lens against that or for it, I now also just subscribed to him. Funny lol
Being new to Sony, this is exactly the video I've been searching for! Thank you for this information
I use a sigma 18-35 f1.8 with an mc11 adapter on my a6500 as well as the 10-18. I then use sony's clear image zoom feature to turn my lenses into an effective 32-70mm f1.8 and 20-32mm f4. Get's all of the shots I need.
however, I would love to get one of those sigma 16mm 1.4 just to get a even more dreamy look at a wider angle and I'll always be able to punch in 2x to turn that into a 32mm
Great info Brandon! :)
:D
Subbed!! Probably the best video/lens review I've seen for those, like myself, who need more understanding on how or which type of lenses to get/use. Thanks a lot!
Second that. Great video and thinking about subbing.
yep joining the gang
Lorenzo Hines Very true
A-fucking-men
Lorenzo Hines agreed!!
Brandon,
awesome work.
I've watched at least 20 videos looking for a clear explanation of lens for the Sony cameras and this hits the nail on the head!
I want to thank you Brandon for this amazing talk-thru of your Sony lenses. This video has nearly been the singular source for gearing up my Sony a6500 kit from scratch, with me coming back to this video countless times and watching it again and again as I researched: I ultimately chose your 2 staples the 10-18 and Nikon 50 f1.4, as well as the FE 28mm and the 16-50 kit lens. Thanks again for your info!
Yeees Iâve been looking for a video like this! Thank you so much! Very very useful information. So helpful!
Great video, man! Helped a lot on selecting lenses (coming from Canon)
This is THE best video, ever, on the function of lenses and a sample to show what you are talking about. GOLD!!!
By far the best video I've seen on this subject and backed up by incredible video footage. Amazing talent.
Very informative, very QUICK and to the point (which most of us want), and full of actual examples. Excellent video. Thanks!
This guy is good
This is the best video I've seen for making lens choice easy and in a, straight to the point kind of way. Excellent. Thanks
That was the best video on equipment I've ever see, it was ultra informative & I'm sure this will come in handy soon
OMG, another video?! You are awesome!!! Thank you so much for sharing! I really appreciate your time and willingness to share your knowledge and experiences. I learned a lot from you~hopefully, one day I would be as a great storyteller as you are. haha. Your videos are so intriguing. Keep up the excellent work! Hope to see more updates from you!
Thank you so much Jie!
Great stuff Brandon! Your work is inspiring. Have you ever tried the Sony 24mm 1.8 ZA? Trying to decide between the 24mm or the Sigma 30 1.4.
I might have to try the 35mm 1.8. Great video btw
Thanks Dave! It's so tiny and useful, and not too expensive. It's an easy addition to the kit.
hhhŚŚŚŚ5ŚŚ
I'm buying my first Sony camera (a6500) and I think I'll get the 35mm 1.8 to go with it :)
Great Video btw
you won't be disapointed. it's my favorite for the a6500 :)
Mine just came in the mail. I used the f2 28mm full frame on the a6500 and while it took great photos, low light video was not working well for me. Looking forward to testing out the 35mm.
This is absolutely the best lens review on CZcams EVER! Thanks a lot for your extensive review and also adding the video footage so we can get a clear view of each lens in action.
Ive have been looking into this topic for weeks, and you just erased the need for all the other videos I have watched. You earned a steady subscriber.
You're awesome! Thanks for spreading the knowledge! đđœđđŒđ
Hey Brandon! can you do an updated video for 2019? thank you!
Chris Mizo please!!!
Agreed, whenever you're free man
Yes please!
and 2020 !!!âĄïž
@@168KDW its the same time with the same lenses. focal lenght never changes
Brandon I enjoyed that mate, thanks so much for a good clean look with a great presentation.
I'm in!
How can anyone not like this overview? Seriously. Well done and excellent information on the rationale for using particular lenses in this kit. Brandon used examples to showcaseâ his points - awesome. I love to hear what other photographers/videographers use as it helps me to consider my options and reasons for trying new stuff. What really is awesome is looking at the final product of the reasoning > Brandon's footage. Most excellent!
I'd like to have half of those lenses but I'd love to have half your talent more!
Flattered, thanks so much!
Hey kombi! Haha
@@BrandonLiUnscripted If i put the Sony 10-18mm F4 on my sonya7iii it will be an 15-27mm? Have you tried on your sony a7s2? How is it?
@@baloup571 if you want FF wide lens. get the samyang 18mm f2.8 auto focus , waaay better than the 10-18 f4 crop and less cheaper
@@BrandonLiUnscripted its true,,,the skill you show is amazing.
Damn dude bless you for this detailed info. Thank u!
Crystal clear with really beautiful shots. Congrats!
Thanks for uploading! This video is everything that I've been looking for. So informative. GREAT video.
Great video!!!! Great info & tips. Thx...
We appreciate your advise and you have an exceptional style of communication, makes it easier for us. 10+ . Thank you
Thank you for making this video! Your footage makes it so much easier to see what a lens does
That is one of the most specific, strict to the point, valuable video regarding lenses and their purpose. You are the main man. Thanks a lot!!
This is a fantastically helpful video. cutting to your footage while talking about the lenses really helps explain the differences. The Nikon 50 looks great, but I'm curious if Sony doesn't have a 50mm that would treat you just as well. ? (The last thing i need is another adaptor and some AF might be nice.)
They have a SEL35f14Z, but it costs more than 1500 dollars. You can also try Sigma 30mm f/1.4, which is a bang for the buck at just about 400 dollars.
Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I use the Sony a7RII with the Metabones adapter for my Canon L series lenses. I'm not happy with this setup except for the 50 f/1.2 which makes an amazing combo !
I'm waiting for the Pilotfly H2 gimbal and would like to find a great Sony lens to shoot landscape and cityscape with continuous auto focus on face. The 16-35 is a bit expensive but looks great and I didn't know the Sony 16-50mm. What is the quality of the last one ? Enough good for a 42Mpx sensor ?
Many thanks !
Don't expect too much from the AF from a7rii. It sucks. Also remember your low light in 4k is much better in crop mode.
The AF isn't good with the adapter. Hope it will be a bit better with a Sony lense.
Hi Brandon,
I was wondering if you could share your Pilotfly H2 profiles ?
Thank you very much in advance !
literally the most helpful thing ever, your stuff is beaut man. great vid
probably the best video I've seen on this topic. such clear examples and explanations thank you man!!
3:36 when your classy get together and drink some wine party goes so well that Tarantino ends up reading up poems for you
that scene ended in a bloodbath originally
Such a Great Video! Ever tried the Sigma 18 35 1.8 on the a6300?
18-35mm has no image stabilization so I'd advise waiting for a6500 before trying on a gimbal.
That's the plan ;) Would love to see a video on what you have your custom Buttons set to! Maybe worth a video?
While I'm sure this would be useful information for people, I think I would be incredibly bored making a video about it
Get what you mean! Keep up the good work!
thank you for being clear and straight to the point with your reviews
the best lenses review video on youtube, not just informative but very entertaining to watch. good job :)
Saving this for when I have a job đ
Would you still call the Sony 18-105mm f4 one of the best cinematic aps-c lenses? Or compared to the Sigma 16mm 1.4 ... which one is better for cinematic videos? And in general?
I am confused about 18-105 is it good i am using the kit 16-50 for a year now and i really want to upgrade
In general of course 18-105, fix lens its not good for general shoot. Lets say you came into an event or zoo, those beautiful sharp 16mm wont help you a thing. You could see Brandon's video about delete crowds which he use 18-105 for all shot
@@yoginwidhi6676 nice thx!:) he replaces it with the new 16-55mm F2.8 but the 18-105 is still a beast and I hope it gets a new firmware soon:)
For a G lens
@@yoginwidhi6676 I also heard that "sharpness" isnt that much of a deal for cinematic videos anyway... it's about the detail:)
Brilliant, exactly what I wanted to know! Plus you give a clear explanation as to why you use these lenses. Subbed!
Awesome video, really helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Which adapter you use for the nikon AIS Lens?
I am curious about this too. He clearly stated he preferred Sony lenses in order to avoid using adapters, hence I don't understand why he speaks so highly of the Nikon lens.
Hi David, since I see no answer yet..I use as well on my A7SII AI, AIS and G lenses, as well as Tokina, Konica, Zeiss and even Helios, MIR and Fuji vintage lenses and IÂŽve tried many adaptors. From the Metabones top notch down to the cheapest ones found on Amazon. For the job you need them to do on a FF camera, Ill stick with the Commlite or Fotodiox adaptors which are half way compared to the expensive metabones and the cheapest. They are good build quality and do the job just very fine. Hope it helped.
Native lenses on a camera are supposed to work the best way since they are designed for it. Hence, it doesn't mean you can't adapt other party lenses on your camera and obtain results almost as good (and some even better). For much less than what Sony asks for their lenses (some times you don't even have a choice and you have to go to the Zeiss series or G master, since some focal lengths and speeds are yet not available elsewhere at a Pro-amateur price point). That being said, Nikon is one of the best lens manufacturers ever, and the range of choice you have with them is huge. They still manufacture lenses that they started to on the 80ÂŽs cause thereÂŽs simply nothing to change on them. You can get yourself a pretty good damn kit of old lenses (from the 70`s, 80ÂŽs, 90ÂŽs) which will allow you to have a professional kit for not much more than 1000 US, and we are speaking about covering from Ultrawide to Tele up to 200 (and most of them fast lenses too as the 50mm 1.4, the 20-35 2.8D, the 85mm 1.8 AI or the 80-200 2.8ED). This lenses are marvelous jewelry manufactured with excellence that nowadays has been lost almost everywhere, or pay above 1000 US for each lens to get something new equivalent. You loose autofocus, face recognition etc, but you can save lots of money, lots of space and still have a Pro Kit. Sorry for the extension
the reason why he doesn't mind adapting the Nikon lens is because there's no autofocus, and using an adapter without electronic connections usually doesn't pose any problems.
any reason to pay the extra for the ais lens here over non-ai or ai? as i understand it, difference is only relevant on nikon cameras, no? i may be interested in this lens, but also just trying to learn about vintage lenses.
why you don't used 18-105 F4?
I Think He used but dont talk about it on this vid...
At the time he post this video he doesnt have the 18-105mm or its not produced yet?
No doubt, best review vlog ever seen around on you tube in respect of details on lenses. Thanks a lot for posting.
I'm about to invest in new lenses to conduct video ethnographic research and this video is the most helpful/comprehensive one I've come across so far. Seeing example shots and hearing your in-depth reasoning for each lens is just what I needed. Thanks!!!
How about 18-105/F4 G Brandon?
it's great. I use it now on the gimbal all the time.
I use MS1 Beholder, it seems cannot balance A6300 + 18-105
yeah your lens won't balance on ms1
Which gimbal do you use? I just ordered the Zhiyun Crane V2 and I've been looking at this lens to use for jobs that require a gimbal.
Brandon Li between the 10-18 and 18-105 which one would you use or recommend on a gimbal?
How did you shot these clips in 2:00 please explain
Tutorial please
It's just hyperlapse..check out some tutorials on that
Brandon Li I appreciate it man.
Big thanks!
Big fan of your work. Question though, do you notice a cooler image when using sony lenses compared to canon's slight warm colored lenses? I've seen some comparisons , and it seems the sony lenses give a more neutral look.
No I haven't noticed. I choose my lenses for function more than specific aesthetics though. So I don't do a lot of pixel peeping as long as the image looks good to me.
Brandon Li is the fly by wire focus system for manual focusing as bad as everyone says? I'm on the fence of investing for that reason (and I don't use autofocus that much). Do you find it hard to manually focus or rack focus?
Been struggling so much deciding what lenses to buy, this video was perfect! Thank you!
this is a great video. You go through the sample videos while talking in the background! This should've been the top search result for Sony mirrorless lens recommendation.
Best video i've seen about the subject, thanks for sharing it!
Your videos are always so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to do them.
Excellent presentation. I need to do improve my own videos - complaints about not having a wide enough angle - and you answered those questions!
Extremely useful and good, thank you
Hey Brandon, I am just starting out with Sony and gimbals and this video gave me a good sense of where to start. Thanks very much for the great info!
Killer man. So effin cool you have all the footage samples to back up every lens. THANK YOU!
One of the best reviews of lenses and purpose! Awesome and thanks!
Maybe this video is the most informative lens review I've seen in a while. The conclusion about lens choice by visual needs really catch me. On point and really solve the problem. I feel like I'm back to college and learning from my lecturer.
Thank you! You did wonderful explanation not only regarding lenses but also how to use them for different purposes and the expected outcome. Valuable as a good lesson!
Fab- it must be a dream to travel to all those places, they look beautiful!
Fantastic man, really helped us for our future travels
This video is 6 years old and still practical today! Keep inspiring Brandon!
I honestly have no idea how I wound up here, but wow, I am glad I watched this. Excellent video, great narration, just the right mix of narration and examples. Now I want to see what you do, checking out your channel now.
Great illustration. No fuzz. No story telling. On to the point.
Thanks for the valuable information
Brandon, always appreciate your videos!
This was one of the most useful videos I've found about the Sony range so thanks so much! Thinking about buying an A6500, but wasn't sure what lenses to get with it. Feel much better after watching this! Thanks again
You answered practically all my sony lens questions. Awesome video!
thank you thank you thank you! one of the best overviews and exactly what I needed. telling reasons why you like them with real use case scenarios is great, but then you actually SHOW clips of them in use so we can visually see differences. superb work.
Yeah I tried to show that I can actually use the gear I talk about. I would hesitate to take advice from someone who can't do what they're teaching.
Wow, you are amazing! I've only watched 3 of your videos and have learned a ton already! Thanks so much!
straight to the point, really helpful for me considering Sony for Video - cheers!
Live video examples at same time when explaining are the best!!!
This was a really good vid man, i really liked that you showed actual photage while talking about the lens at the same time.
Yeah I figure it's helpful to see examples
Just been through a lot of lens reviews and this has been the most useful thus far!
Awesome content đđŒ đ by far the best vlog on Sony lenses vs a half dozen I watched in last 48hrs
really some fantastic video clips - I am just making the transition from still documentary photography to video - your work is very inspiring!!
dude, awesome video. Awesome cinematography. I will be watching way more of your stuff.
I just learned so much about focal lengths and their uses. Thank you đđŒ
Low budget first the camera and then multiuser lens thank you finally after see a lot of blogs I happily found you, love the way you explained
One of the most informative and useful videos I have ever come across! Thank you so much for sharing. Definitely subscribing to you now.
I've watched a few people on here doing these sort of videos over the years. This guy is the real deal. I love the seriousness and the attention to detail. It's a cheese-free channel.
yes.. I did too
Great video. Bloomin' useful and some great inspiring shots.
Thank you so much for this video, no dilly-dallying, straight to the point and comprehensive insights about the lenses. Great job !
THE BEST LENSE CHOICE VIDEO EVER. Subscribed with notifications. Damn great channel man!
Glad I stumbled here! Your channels full of great information, especially me being new to photography/filming! Much Appreciated. Looking forward to more of your videos!
Never bored to watch this over and over
Great video. You're good at keeping everything clear and to the point. This was much easier to watch than some other channels, and was very informative. Subscribed đ
your work is incredible, some of the best I've seen on CZcams đ
Fantastic video, you explain and present these things so well! Perfect for me who is just getting started. Also the shot at 3:08 is so visually appealing and aesthetically pleasing to me, I keep coming back to it over and over again.
Watched this video several times over the years for reference, would be great to see a 2020 redo of it!
watched it twice last year & now I'm back.. a 2020 refresh is definitely needed with all the 3rd party lenses getting better & even smaller.
I must say that this is One of the best videos ever!!! Thank you sooo much for all the great info, and that you have shots, explaining What the glass does!!! Amazing!!! Thank you!!! đđđđ
REALLY THE BEST REVIEW OF LENSES I EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE
Really great video! This was very helpful and well done. Thanks Brandon!
Love the info Brandon. Really loving all your work and your tips. Keep 'em coming and I'll keep on watching.
Aloha,
Brad
I really appreciate the fact that you show shots that you captured with each lens as you talk about it. Way too many reviewers just show the lens in hand and never show it in action.
I try to walk the talk..I don't like taking advice from someone if I don't know what their footage looks like.
You are so inspiring... both the visual quality of your work and the content always blow my mind!
Thanks so much!
Hi Brandon, thank you for this video.. i was thinking about buying the 10-18 for my a6300 (soon the a6500 upgrade), but this video made me think about investing into the gimbal first.. you are an inspiration!
Thank you for the easy to digest information about lenses. I have no idea what lens to invest in but your video helped me a lot.
Very informative breakdown of the lenses and their uses! Thank you!
