Its not PS5 thats impressive, PS5 has similar hardware capabilities to a mid range gaming PC from this generation, which will be last generation by the time it comes out in 2021. Whats impressive is Unreal Engine 5's insane tech that lets you run billions of triangles in a scene as to opposed to a the few million that you were limited to before WITHOUT a huge performance impact.

@Order Power Don't know about the comparison to a mid-range PC but Alex Rerecich is right about it being UE5 that's impressive and not the PS5. You can definitely expect to see the same demo running on XSX and PCs.

Naughty Dog uses their own engine not Unreal engine
This is so game changing for the industry. As a concept artist who works with z brush and maya it takes hours and hours to re typoligize a model to game resolution. To be able to take a high res model and throw it right into the game is absolutely insane ! And will save artists thousands and thousands of hours of work.

I'm in my second year doing Games art a uni, retopology can be such a time consuming tedious job. Seeing this today blew my mind.

Yup, the realtime Unreal Engine 4 demo running in realtime on PS4 was completely and utterly surpassed by so many actual games.
in time this demo will look quaint and old, which is hard to imagine now.

@@TwoTymez96 I'm just freaking excited at the capability of next gen as both system are very similar save few Tflops and speed differences(they both are hitting the high end of current graphic cards if not higher in nextbox's case). People are excited because Sony seems to be better at advertising and creating lust for their consoles compared to Xbox. Sad that they can't do the same for their mobile Xperia sector in terms of garnering massive excitement.

@@julioooe1 everythings happening in the demo is in real time. Not just about cpu n gpu. They probably running this on the ps5 to benefit from the ps5's super speed ssd which is the fastest ssd there is right now.

I have to say it. This one tech demo on the PS5 outshined everything shown on the Xbox series x gameplay event hands down. Just... WOW! 😳🤤
The games shown at the xbox event are also going to be on current gen consoles for the most part so that really isn’t a great comparison.
@khalid seid No, it won't, at least for another two years. The special ssd pipeline archetecture for both consoles are better than anything home PCs got for now. I expect board manufacturers, ssd and amd will certainly be pushing the new architecture for PCs within three years, then PC will once again rise supreme.

People are getting confused with this. This isn’t ps5 gameplay demo it’s a unreal engine 5 tech demo running on ps5 dev kit. It’s meant to show the tech of the engine with the amount it can do. Don’t set expectations this high and think you’re watching a gameplay preview

Yes! In the full reveal with with the Q&A at the end, they do cover this. The PS5, Series X and high end PCs will be the high end. The engine will be able to scale down from there to support iOS and Android. They also announced that the cost barrier to entry was reduced. UE will be free for Devs up to $1 million in revenue. After that they pay a license fee. This could result in more indie gamers utilizing UE for their games.
Some bigger games may avoid it specifically because that license fee adds up over time. Its not surprising that some of the best selling games use their own engine. Halo Infinite will use the new Slipspace engine. Horizon Zero Dawn also uses its own engine.

This is awesome because it's not just showcasing what next gen can do, it's showcasing new technology. If consoles can do this, imagine on PC when this new technology comes out. Remember it's running on PS5 because it's marketing but it isn't only on PS5. It's gonna be a great decade for gaming.

Fluid Simulations ... as in fluid physics. It's not about how it looks but more about how it reacts to the environment and to the character! It behaves more like water basically.

As a 3d artist, being able to just drag and drop assets into a scene without having to abide but a budget and spends dozens of hours optimizing and baking assets is a game changer.
I'm getting my laptop on the 22, so excited to get started using unity, once I'm in business I'ma upgrade to unreal, and this demo(being an aspiring game programmer) just made me gigidi In my pants.
