It shouldn't be so much that the SSD is special, it's more the I/O, datapath and its coprocessor that is ahead of PCs in general!

@DOOMSlayer well in a sense he's right, we have to move that needle from 30fps to 60fps or what's the point in an upgrade, just for nicer graphics? This is an amazing looking tech demo no doubt. But we have to see games at least make use of this tech. Until then its just a nice demo

Just search it up man XD... Oversimplifying it, its basically digital storage device that stores data and information in ur computer such as operating system,applications, games,videos, pics etc.

An SSD is a what is known as a solid state drive. What most people are used to is HDD which is short for hard drive disk. SSDs operate much faster than HDDs and allow for better load times in games and other forms of media. They also utilize less energy which allows for pcs and consoles to run cooler. SSDs also don't have any moving parts like HDDs which use a rotating magnetic disk to store and maintain data. Because of this SSDs don't have to spool up and the chances of losing data is decreased.However, SSDs are much more expensive and cost more money per gigabyte which is why HDDs typically have a greater amount of storage space.

Sony usually puts its best selling games from all generations in the Playstation Store for you to download.
I'm guessing its a form of HBM/HBM2 memory. M.2 NVME memory for pc is about 5gb/sec and HBM is at 7gb/sec.

@@KidCas1031 Hows that´s an assumption?, the Sony fanboys were also bragging about the HDDR5 Ram on the PS4 back in the day and in a few months the PC had HDDR5 too and wen´t beyond that as well.
These things take a few months, because many companies owning these patents that Sony has in their hardware will bring them out on PC in a short time like any part on PC.
So this is really irrelevant to your point your making, PC will always be ahead..

I'm glad ps5 ssd is far higher than even good pc's but still pc will end up improving quickly anyways but it don't matter, at least i don't have to spend so much time building a pc and get confused by it.

This all sounds very exciting, but I hope the system is fully reverse compatable with all previous generations from PS1 to PS4, that would be unprecedented and I don't see how it couldn't theoretically be possible.

So does that mean next-gen games will have smaller file size than current-gen games? With SSD, they don't need to store all their duplicated textures into HDD to circumvent the slow loading time. If I am not mistaken, storing a ton of duplicated texture data is the main reason why Doom is twice the size of Doom Eternal despite having lower graphical fidelity.
PS5 is a day one buy for me!

So from what I've gathered, the XSX is more powerful in most aspects; however, the PS5 has found a way to maximise the power use to its full potential. So where we see the XSX has more power, doesn't necessarily mean it will use all of that power. Really excited to see both of these consoles.
All I know is that I'm ready to get both systems day one. Halo Infinite and God of War...here we go.

There is no software that takes advantage of PC nvme ssd speeds yet, all you need is a good 500MB per sec SSD and your good to go. Games could theoretically load 10X faster on PS5 than on PC...

The ssd is not what drives a machine, its is cpu and gpu that generally drive it for gaming. Having a crappy gpu with this ssd is going to do nothing but make loading times faster.

@@miz6294 he's right. if the ps5 doesnt have a high GPU then the rendering out of the game would be slow. the ssd only helps in loading the assets and the gpu renders out the final graphics

It means it's being played as you would be playing any game. Its actually running and not being pre-rendered on recorded like in-game engine footage.
It has no impact on performance outside of load times. Framerates, resolution, detail, etc. is all GPU and CPU. People aren't really understanding this. There's a reason why the best video card on PC costs $1200 by itself.
Faster loading times. That’s about it. Fast drives are generally only great in reading and writing, basically if you’re going to copy very large files, a lot. Very helpful for 4K video editing or very large megapixel photo editing. I’ve got terabytes of fast Samsung SSDs in my main photo/video editing rig, which I also use to game on. The GTX 1080ti and the i7 @ 5ghz helps more than anything hard drive related.
This comment is not to bash or point fingers, but I never understood why people argue over specs. It’s all about the games and exclusives. Nintendo has been far behind for years with their tech but still produce some of the best games year after year. It’s all about exclusives and the games when it comes down to it. I’m leaning towards PS5 solely because of that, and why I own a PS4 and switch, the exclusive titles.

It's all about optimization though. Which the PlayStation is doing good at. A lot of android phones has superior specs on paper but iPhones always kills them with optimization. It's like that. Quality over quantity my friend.
Xbox is only 5-10% more powerful but its ssd will be slower than the ps5's ssd

I equally love both consoles. SONY is showing some mad moves in console technology development. Taking the time to listen and develop console capabilities for a more easy development process of video games could potentially give SONY an edge over its counterparts. By what I understand, The X series dose have a slightly higher computation power then PS5. It’s going to depend upon which console can efficiently utilize its full potential. Because it doesn’t matter how powerful a console is if you have developer that is not using the new features. But I think I’m just word polluting at this point.
That tech demo, visually, is something I would see behind the scenes from a film studio like Pixar or ILM, who's workstation costs several grands with top end workstation GPUs that have 16-48GB of HBM2 ram. The fact that a console can produce this much visual quality at that consumers can their hands on at launch brings a message to : GPU manufacturers to reduce cost, SSD to be the norm, would make developers bother (or wait for Unreal 5) to make SSD the norm (shoutout to StarCitizen), and finally the 1% of PC gamers who has dual RAID 0 NVME SSDs taken advantage for. Until then I'm preordering PS5 day one.
i have a PS4 and a PC, i love both of them and my PC is extremely High-End. But if the PS5 SSD is anything like they have said, its going to be ALOT faster than my PC. I recently bought a M.2 SSD, with the absolute highest speed i could find on the market.. The disc alone costed $265. There are so many small problems and things that cause a PC to slow down over time, the only way to keep it fast is to really just formate it every month.. None of those issues are a thing on Playstation so i would not be surprised if the PS5 turns out to be 3 times faster than my $3500-ish PC

An SSD and a GPU are 2 very different things.
@@tucci06 PS5 SSD is good compressing textures and inyect them fast but RTX injects those textures faster using the video card and improving performance better than anything. Plus SSD does not give you power, is fast but there are better option to make PC Better than what that SSD is doing... Misleading marketing at is finest.
