DO YOU think the PS5 Demo is possible on the Series X? Try to provide some reasoning as to why you think it can or can’t be done on the series x.
There was a lot of praise given to the ps5 this past week and it echoes some of the stuff we’ve heard anonymously from developers over the months but now we have epic games openly stating these things. We also have a possible event happening for the ps5 on June 4th and the amount of games should be exciting. A lot of content to dive into!

Not related to the video but PlayStation 4 has sold 110 million units and is the second best home selling console behind Ps2.
Don’t mean to burst your bubble dude but although PS4 has sold over 110 million units, it’s ranked 4th after the GameBoy which has sold over 118 million units. PS2 is no 1 with over 157 million units sold.

There's no need to speculate how critical the SSD was for the demo. Epic told us in the follow up interview:
"The I/O capabilities OF PS5 are one of the KEY features that allow us to achieve THAT level of realism." - Epic
Whether Xbox Series X can pull off the same feat, at the same fidelity, would depend on whether the PS5 SSD was being pushed to its limit(barring optimizations which will occur throughout the console's life). Let's imagine for a moment that what you saw was the absolute best PS5 SSD could achieve. How would you pull that off with half the I/O speed? As far as asset streaming goes, you can't eat more than what your waiter can deliver.

Joshua Smith bruh literally all the consoles have been running with hdd and where doing fine , SSD will not make such impressive impacts as y’all think, speed is key not get wrong and I’ll happily put that SSD on my rig but gpu has a lot more impact in creating poligons and making frames

Demo was made specifically for the ps5 it would have to be altered and scaled down to run on series x there is a reason why epic and sony have been working close together for the last couple of years ps5 will utilise the unreal engine 5 to the max and that ssd changes everything

not better than most high end pcs. weve been doing 4k60 for years. personally i just stick to 1080p 144fps because framerate is better than graphics. weve also had ssds for many many years, you guys are just now getting it.

I'm gonna lay out some hard cold facts. Ps5 is at 9GB/s @ 12 channels. Xbsx is at 4GB/s @ 3 channels. The ps5s IO is literally more than twice as xbx.

Things like the flying scene would not be possible on the xsx. The throughput makes that possible. Also I find it kinda insane how the ps5 kraken architecture ssd is way ahead of pc ssd´s that costs 800 bucks.

@Oo oO the velocity engine does 5.4gb/s at best. Ps5 5.5 at minimum and 9gb/s at max and can theoretically do 22gb/s if well encoded and compressed. Xbox is nowhere near as fast.

I think that the Series X can run it, since the Unreal Engine 5 is made for all platforms. BUT, the fact that they used Movie Quality assets, leads to question, if the X-Box would be able to load this quality as quickly and as precisely as the PS5 did. I think, that if this demo was played at speed... MAYBE, maybe, the Series X would struggle to load all the details in the room with 500 statues (even though it probably wouldn't be too evident). I do believe that the new gen games won't use Movie Quality assets in them, just due to the fact that games will then have to take up more than 200/300 gigs of storage, if billions of polygons are used on each asset. For that reason, I think X-Box and the PS won't be too different in performance. BUT in long term, maybe the PS5 will remain a better console, when the Pro series and other improved versions come out. ALSO, in 5, 6 years, when the Developers will perfect the new gen engines and all - the PS exclusives will probably show higher quality and improved graphics over the X-Box. Because they will be able to MAX out the SSD's ability. Looking at LOUP2 and Ghost of Tsushima - the graphics there are beyond most of the X-Box exclusive games already. Thanks to the skills and work of the developers, but now with this SSD in their hands, and with the Unreal Engine 5, I think developers can just go nuts!)) Also, I won't be surprised if Sony has had some deal with Epic Games to use the Engine first, hence, having some PS exclusive already running on that engine at launch or end/start of the year? Sneaky tactics are at play, I am sure.

He was not only talking about the raw speed of the Ps5’s ssd. Obviously Pc ssds will catch up in that regard. He was talking about the whole storage architecture and how it is implemented with the ram and apu and in this regard a Pc is not even close. On a Pc there is no difference at all once you have a ssd then you can jump to a fast Pcie 4.0 ssd and there will be no significant difference but the ssd on a console will be integrated tightly especially on the Ps5 which will change the game

@@psychopoison They developed the SSD together with Samsung, but that's just the SSD. It's raw speed is coming to pc In December. But it's so well used within the ps5 that's not possible on pc. It's a lot more waste there.
Its not only the really fast SSD, but the architecture and the I/O throughput, and the high clock speeds of the GPU, the higher the clockspeed, the faster it can render things

So the fast streaming basically is a trade for on board graphics RAM. It allows you to need less RAM to hold environment data as it can be streamed in as need much faster.
Games on platforms that don't have this streaming speed will have to preload more of the environment (level load time up a bit) to compensate, and write code to fetch environment from disk sooner to compensate, whcih is what they do now. The only difference there is the further out in the environment you have to load, it is tricker in the code because more "prediction" needs to be done as to what is needed next, and if you code too tightly with that trying to free up as much vram as possible for other things, you can run into hiccups where a player does something unpredictable that we see as slowdowns or pop in.
So basically, to play this game on PC or Xbox, they need more VRAM and level load to accommodate this. Not sure what those numbers would be, it would be nice to hear this metric from the developers. If the VRAM is not there, then the game goes back to existing lower LOD to accommodate.
So at the end of the day, the advantages of this architecture are
Less vram needed (but I am sure vram is cheaper)
Less load time for games
Potentially smoother gameplay when fast travelling through environments .
I think this tech demo running on XSX will take at least 3 loading screens between rooms, especially at the moment entering into the large room with all the statues.

I think Sony and Cerny looked at PS4/pro and thought what was the weakest link , then focused a lot on ssd improvement as well as power.
Xbox not wanting to be beaten again have gone for raw power .

It also lines up with how games work, it's all possible because the storage device can be used as a mass RAM cache.
The SSD is literally feeding the GDDR5 in PS5.
Sure Series X can do it, but the speed it can move data from it's SSD to RAM is bound by the SSD and I/O Data Management Architecture.
PS5's SSD has a raw I/O bandwidth of 5.5GB/s, Series X has 2.4GB/s.
Sony built their DMA tech to allow that access to be possible, where normally you can't access data at the full speed of your SSD's interface.
It's not clear if Series X can make use of the full I/O speed available from it's SSD.
Compression wouldn't be an advantage for Series X because PS5 has been designed to allow for full compression and reconstruction of compressed data in SSD.
Series X may be able to process the data at a slightly faster rate, but data flow will stall once each workload is finished, where PS5's storage solution can continue to feed data flow compressed or uncompressed at a faster rate than Series X.
Microsoft didn't use an SSD solution that maxes out their processing hardware, they chose something that is way better than current gen hardware in PS4 or XB1, but it falls short of what is needed to really maximise the CPU and GPU tech in these next gen machines.

I think it is possible even on a HDD. You have to wait a few minutes for the level to load (like Battlefield), but possible. And XBox's SSD is super fast too, so yeah, totally possible on XBox too. I'm a Sony fan, I'll buy a PS5, but Unreal Engine is a multiplatform engine, of course this will work on every platform and look stunning.

No thats not possible even with 10 minutes loading. Because that would be to much data for the ram.
Anothe solution: use big RAM, maybe 128GB. Preload the whole game from any slow HDD / not so fast SSD to RAM before playing.
Bro no... HDD will not be able to handle this. And yes, XBOX has a faster SSD (in comparison to a regular PC) but PS5 doubles it. As a develope myself, I can tell you, the difference is huge if you compare both machines, more if they a running open world or games that require high framerates, PS5 will outperfom series X just because of their SSD.
@@AlejandroMostajo I'm not a 3D model specialist, so I can't measure how many RAM in necessary to store this much data, but considering the PS5 has only 800 GB free space on it's HDD, I don't think games can allow to have 100GB data for a level that you can complete in just 10 minutes. So 32 or 64 GB RAM must be enough. Or you think a game like this will use like 700 GB from your SSD? I don't think so.

Maybe not quite. The demo could maybe have a slightly higher resolution and slightly more demanding effects on the XSX, but they would have to trim down other areas due to the difference in SSD bandwidth vs. the PS5.

With that demo, since it’s apparently only in 1440p 30fps on PS5, I reckon generally the Series X will offer a slightly better performance and image, but will noticeably struggle with the flying section. That latter part really does show the PS5’s unique advantage.
Can a faster SSD be connected to Series X external SSD port? Would Series X be able to properly handle a faster SSD?

I’m sure there will be a stand with built in charge docks released im not interested in standing it up with the risk of it being knocked over the PlayStation design has been optional since the ps2 with your own risk if you would like to stand it up my ps2 and 3 got disks jammed inside and the PS4 has vents when it gets put on the stand it cuts air flow.

They remade SOTC for the PS4, but only updated the resolution to 1080p for the ICO remaster on PS3 and the framerate only got a stable 30fps... I'd love to see ICO remade using this technology in 4K at 60fps!

Veolictiy archetecture is a name they gave to a mechanic to make it seem more valuable. XBOX is good at marketing their console sinse it fools many people, but what the ps5 does is faster than what velocity archetecture can do. Not to mention that the ps5 could do mesh shading as well, no one console is locked to a certain kind of shading.

Bruh have you seen the scale of the tech demo and its running in 1440p 30fps plus its unoptimized and there is no LODS they just imported from z brus with film quality assets so yea if the game is optimized maybe just maybe it can run on 4k 60fps or 1440p 120fps
The Demo was created to show off what can be achieved with the SSD, why would they care to make it 4K or at 60fps? That’s not the limit of the PS5

Series X can probably run it at higher frames, but the ending where you fly through the landscape will probably cause the frames & data to crash a little on the Series X or might not fly as fast through the map because it'll cause loading. PS5 can now support things like Superman flying blinding fast through the map without pop ups.
I think it definitely will work on both ps5 and xsx
Has anyone heard how much storage space the PS5 will have? When I got a PS4 it came with 500gb which was not enough at all and had to buy 2tb external hard drive. I am hoping that it comes with more or if we have to buy more that we can easily take the internal hard drive out and replace it with a larger one.
I just hope they don't over price the extra memory for the ps5 like they did with the vita's memory cards
They said the demo was built for ps5. So yeah the demo could have been done on series x but with less fidelity and detail. Nanite depends on gpu power and ssd bandwidth to funnel in assets that dont fit in the 16gb of ram.
Xbsx has 20 percent more gpu power but only half as much ssd bandwidth when uncompressed. And when compressed we are talking 6gb a second max versus 22gb a second max.

Not a techie, and only a casual gamer. I'm wondering if on strandard games, maybe the differences are small between consoles, with different games better on one console over the other depending on type of game, but the ps5 ssd setup is more focused on allowing more complex VR environments to load quickly? Over the life of this generation, maybe VR is where Sony dominates and leaves Microsoft behind?

I think the xbox will be capable of running the demo but I think it would take a lot more work and optimisation on the developer end get it working. We as the end user probably won't see the difference for the most part but if you are a dev you could finish the game quicker on ps5 than you could on xbox or maybe use that extra time for further optimisation or exclusive content. Who knows to be honest though as not enough is known about either yet to say for sure.
A next gen Matrix/LOTR open world game is what I want. Pleasssseee somebody make one 😭
There is no doubt that the Series X can run the demo maybe even at a higher framerate but the only part that it may have difficulty at is the flying sequence where everything was loaded in instantaneously. Depending on how Epic was using the SSD in the PS5 for that sequence the speed & crispness of that may suffer on the Series X mainly cause of the compression speed is vastly slower, so it may 'chug' a bit.
XSX will definitely be able to run this, the real question is if the XSX will be able to run it to the same fidelity as the PS5 and if it can be optimized to that level.

what people aren't getting is that the PlayStation 5 SSD has the whole entire system built around it and it's Built to optimize that SSD unlike PCS who have a lot of bottleneck from the SSD. The reason the ps5 SSD is so good is because it's getting true speed. PC just can't become as optimize and would have to muscle through it with a say 7gbps SSD (this is my thoughts because it was the recommended speed for the add on storage for ps5)

I have a feeling that Nanite and Lumen are extremely shader intensive. So, compute may end up being the bottleneck, giving a slight edge to Xbox.

Sony's I/O is something totally unique though (and more interesting), but if PS5 has a heating issue, then it won't matter.
If you can, then please make a video on how UE5 is doing dynamic lighting because this is not fully raytracing.

I think both consoles can run the unreal 5 demo. There are a few spots such as 3:11 where they may be allowing time for the ram to dump assets and load new ones. The PS5 shouldn't have to have these segments. This was a tech demo for Unreal Engine 5 NOT PS5, it just so happen to be running on a PS5. I believe they made a demo to represents the typical operation on any platform whether it be PS XBX or PC.
Another thing to note is that the engine was not utilizing the hardware accelerated ray tracing, and instead, using the CPU and GPU to achieve the global illumination. All of that computing power could be off loaded to the ray tracing hardware baked into the new APUs and free up cycles in the CPU/GPU to achieve even more impressive graphics.
IO is PC's weakness because CPU, GPU, SSD and Memories slots all have to upgrade to the new motherboard. This is not the same just upgrade a CPU or Graphics card. That's a big if, can Intel & Nivida agree on the new standard?
They don't have to, heh heh, because AMD makes cpu and gpus, if they work with board chipset manufacturers, PCs may be getting this rocket speed tech within two years, then really take off.
