MRUV 124: Trackwork & Controls in Sharon

- čas přidán 7. 09. 2018
- Finally got to work installing the track in Sharon. It is now all installed, all Tortoises are in and the controls are in place. Also installed were four Rapido remote uncouplers. For now I made my own control panel- not the most professional but it is functional! I may replace it with a reverse engraved panel at some point in the future.
As usual mistakes were made...and you will see them in the video.
With this major PITA out of the way, I now need to install the controls for the mainline turnouts. This is a tad more involved as it includes interfacing to the C/MRI system. I have it figured out, just need to do it. I also need to paint all the new track...Ugh.

Great video. My head is swimming trying to figure out how that panel wiring works. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to see next update.
Thanks. Will keep chipping away at it.
Just came onto your videos recently. Really enjoying them. Thanks for sharing, even your bloopers. Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Keep up the good work.
Rob, I was amazed you decided to redo all this area, but I see why you needed to; especially to add the staging. Looking forward to seeing the final result on the turnout controls for the mainline, along with your JMRI interface. As always, thanks for the lessons you are providing. The inspiration is Class A!
Pat- thanks. Was a lot of extra work but in the long run it will greatly improve operations. I don't (yet) use JMRI but
I may- it seems it may be a simpler way to integrate with the C/MRI.
Hey Rob! I'm glad you show your mistakes. It means your human. I make some real loo-loos on my layout sometimes, usually when I am really tired and/or I start to loose perspective. I am one of those nuts that really enjoys wiring. I am a journeyman electrician, wiring management and quality connections are of utmost importance to me. Your wiring management skills and standards are high just like mine. I can tell from your videos. Your scenery skills obviously surpass mine. I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work. Thanks, Russ
Thanks Russ! I do like to keep my wiring neat, but am certainly not a true wireman. I just like it that way, plus future tracing or trouble shooting is much easier if things are labeled well and done neatly- at least I think so.
Sunday afternoon. I dont watch NFL football anymore. So perfect time to go back and watch your videos again. You do fantasic work. Which I could do the electrical work you do. Finally converted my layout to DCC this year!! Keep the videos coming
Thanks Joe! I did have the games (college and NFL) on while working this weekend, but I was under the layout wiring and such so didn't really hear much.
The Sharon industrial area is coming along nicely. I always use "hardboard" we call it in the UK for my panels as they get changed so often...........Thanks for the video update, look forward to seeing the area painted and ballasted.
Thanks- and I can't wait to get the track painted, ballasted and the scenery underway. I want to get rid of the white, pink, and green ugliness and back to some normal scenery.
nice to see this part of the layout taking shape keep up the good work
Thanks Tim- will keep at it. I want to get back to doing SCENERY!
"The good, the bad and the ugly"? Sir, i really like your film references...
best thing i enjoy of your videos. just the humor you add.
Thanks Sparky. Need to have fun, otherwise this just becomes work.
Great Video!!!! I know wiring sucks but again, not watching you do it..., lol! Just glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels that way!
Thanks Gary. I don't mind control wiring, just don't really enjoy feeders. But, it has to be done.
Wow... great job.. thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.. Lance
Will do- and thank you!
SWEETA!!! yes Sir nicely done,, & if you ever are you to NH, & feel like doing up some more tortoises let me know.. hahaha ,, I'm liking the control box looks pretty good thanks for tuning us in... Tom B.
NO MORE TORTOISES...LOL. I really hope i am done. But knowing my luck...
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching.
You are welcome Vincent- and thanks for watching!
THANK YOU FOR DETAIL AS LOOK GREAT SLOW TOGETHER IN TIME ON YOUR LAYOUT
You are welcome Robert!
Good stuff. Remember, shit happens.
Thanks- and don't I know it!
Awesome update my friend.
Thanks Chris!
Looking very good.
Only fell upon your channel in the last 2 weeks and I have been wadding through each video. Love your layout. I enjoy the building and model making side of the hobby the most, how is the diner coming along?
Anthony- welcome to the channel, great to have you with us. Ah, the Dinor...well it is still in the works. I have everything ready, I just need to start working it again. Now that all the track revisions, staging, etc, are finally behind me I will get back to building the required structures. I really do want to get them complete and installed!
Good to see you finally get this yard area done .So whats next the engine facility and turn table ?
Cheers Glynn
Yeah, thanks for reminding me...LOL. Once I get the track painted I want to get the scenery underway in Fairview and I also need to figure out how Sharon will blend into the backdrop. Then it will be time for the engine facility and coal dock over in Eugene.
I love those uncouplers but not sure if I am a fan of the new ones where they did away with the short wiring harness . Wires don't always stay in and if there is any depth to the hole you need to prewire them first. I hope they bring back the harness.
I thought they made a change, at least after watching some earlier videos on these. Not sure why a change was made. You are correct- the wires should be installed first but you likely could get them in from under the layout, but I don't prefer that if I can avoid it.
Great update Rob...I've done that, is it cut twice measure once or... LMAO...track work is looking real good and the panel looks great...Isn't nice when you finish something you hate doing...I managed to finish my first fast track turnout it's not pretty but hey it works, I need to get better at soldering them. Real life keeps getting in the way to get anything done, lol but that's another story...TY for the update Tom
Tom- great you got that first TO done! Trust me, it gets easier the more you do them.
Yeah, kaka happens to you as well, I'm relived I'm not alone....
With me, you are in good company!
Looking good...
Thank you Jim.
Fantastic ! Thanks.
Thank you- and you are very welcome!
You should look into Touch Toggles . Your panel could be a hole lot simpler and more modern and can control those uncouplers as well
Frank- I looked at those, but am not really a fan. Just personal choice I suppose. I prefer a toggle and separate LEDs, but then maybe I am just an old curmudgeon.
That bad rail joiner is an easy fix since both ties are slip under. Just slide the good rail joiner over those two ties lift small peice of track put other rail joiner on the end Reglue track and put back in and slide rail joiners forward.
that rail on joiner, cut it with a dremel, the solder a solid wire across holding it flush ?
xD LMAO, Trail n Error's dude xD
Hm, any chance this could be translated into English? I guess I am too old to understand today's vernacular!
Trail n Error = Mistakes
learn from mistakes basicly.
I'm not getting video notifications anymore and the bell shows ringing...wtf?
i've been having trouble with all my youtube notifications
Do you have a second channel?
Yes, off the main page it is under Featured Channels. It is more a railfanning channel, although I haven't done much of that recently!
