    Your video just helped to make my day!!! My old stove was a 4 prong plug wire which all wires matched. My new stove only has 3 wires , missing the green one, I was so confused! Who would of ever thought the green screw under the 3 main wires was for the green wire to be grounded. :)
    Very detailed video, greatly appreciated! You even saved me money as I thought I would need a new cord or possibly even a new outlet. Thank you so much!

    I have no intention of doing this. I just needed to see if there was a difference between a 3 wire cord and a 4 wire cord because my stove died today and the outlet has 4 holes and the current cord has 4 prongs and I wasn't sure a 3 pronged cord would work. So thank you! I'm confident I needed the 4 wire cord so I just paid for it.

      Yes, you should be able to change the range cord to the one you need. The configuration might be different. However, near the terminal block should be a diagram that shows you how to wire. Good luck!

  • @forestwith1r294

    May I please ask if the “bridge” plate from white to green ground, is a necessary piece, or does my green wire just need to be anchored anywhere without something connecting white to it??

    • @TheAppliancePlug
      @TheAppliancePlug  Před 9 měsíci

      The "bridge" plate you're referring to is likely a grounding or bonding jumper. In a typical household electrical setup, the green or bare wire is the ground wire, and the white wire is the neutral wire. The purpose of the ground wire is to provide a safe path for electrical currents to dissipate in case of a fault or short circuit.
      To connect a dishwasher, it's crucial to ensure that it is properly grounded for safety reasons. This usually involves connecting the green ground wire from the dishwasher to the ground terminal in your electrical box or to a grounding conductor (such as a grounding screw or bus bar). This is done to prevent electrical shocks and reduce the risk of fire in case of a fault.
      If you have a white wire in the same cable, it should be connected to the neutral conductor. However, the white and green wires should not be directly connected to each other. They serve different purposes in the electrical system.

    • @TheAppliancePlug

      Technically yes in order for the unit to be properly grounded. If you send me a picture of your terminal block where the cord gets connected, I can see if I have one and mail it to you. You can text picture to 813-252-0731. Or using the model number of the unit you can order one and have it shipped directly to you. You can order it from my appliance parts hotline which is 1-800-816-1241.

    Can we remove the bridge completely (4 prong cord) by removing the top white neutral wire and then reinstalling? Or does it need the metal between the wire and terminal block? I removed it fully but now I am concerned about plugging it in

    • @Trainwreck_Art
      @Trainwreck_Art Před 11 měsíci

      You can remove it completely. He said he left it there and just bent it out of the way in case the stove was moved and had to be reinstalled with a 3 prong cord instead; that's when you would use the bridge, in place of the green ground wire.

    I knew something was wrong after I inspected what Lowe's installers did to my new range. They connected both the ground and the neutral to the neutral post and left the ground strap connected to the frame. I used this video to verify the instruction to remove the ground strap. I folded mine up and bolted it down to the neutral post in case it might be needed in the future, just like the video suggested. The diagram said to cut it though. They also didn't add the strain relief! And I think they lost one of the 3 screws that hold the cover on. Grr...

      Tools needed will vary based on which stove model you have. If you provide me with the model number, I can be precise with the tools needed. However, if you have a multi-tool screw driver that includes different attachments that should cover it. You will typically need a Philips screw driver and either a socket set or nut drivers. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Check out my linktree link in the description for a multi-tool screw driver.
