    Despite the Metal Gear series having a really big focus on combat, the fact that most of them encourage non-lethal approaches to situations makes me think Kojima was *very* against violence as a means to an end. So seeing him make a game based entirely around delivering packages where death causes intense catastrophic destruction seems like exactly what Kojima wanted all along.

      I find it ironic that Kojima, someone that comes from literally one of THE most die-hard heritages in human history, encourages non-lethality.

      It's even further fortified in Peace Walker and MGS V. Sure you can go full Rambo and trivialize the game's enemies, but non-lethal with Fulton recovery is the lifeblood of growing your army.

    • @zeratul____1228
      @zeratul____1228 Před 4 lety +27

      I actually love it as I kind of always want a non-lethal option where possible. Though it is funny how the non-lethal equipment still use technically violent means. : IE a gun or bomb.
      Also in regards to MGSV and PW, you also feel guilty for taking the best operative from a base then offing the rest to spawn more high level enemies. I legit feel dirty when doing it, and I quickly stopped.

      No, it's not! This game is clear as cloudless sky. Just cool game with cool mechanics and poorly written protagonist.
      Arthouse is the thing that allows you to think some or all details by yourself, but in Death Stranding Kojima just put all information inside your brain. The main idea of the game "WE NEED TO CONNECT EVERYTHING AND STAY TOGETHER" was forwarding on marketing stage and became annoying. There are nothing to think about after final scores, except some plot details.
      But the game is great. Setting, mechanics, graphics - all of these are amazing.
      Great game, but absolutely not arthouse.

    I also hope you don't mind me being just a tad bit sappy Suzi, not to mention it's on a completely different topic. I was always semi interested in the Resident Evil series(always loved the zombie genre and the monsters were always creative) but it wasn't until I started watching your fantastic videos on the RE series that I finally decided to take the plunge. Last month I had a mini RE marathon and beat REmake, RE2 remake and RE4 and I'm currently working on RE:Zero and RE Code Veronica X. So thank you for everything you do for the RE community and thanks for helping me enter the survival horror. Hope that if you do happen to read this long winded comment that you have a fantastic day and to anyone else, you do the same.

    The balancing being tedious to handle at the beginning of the game was a deliberate mechanic. It makes it more rewarding when getting the upgrades that fixes that. Even the first unpowered bike is a tease, showing that yes, there can be vehicles that can help you. It's those aspects that made me love the game the more I played, since I was unspoiled knowing there'd be helpful unlockables. The game is designed to make you feel good for your efforts, like most games, but this one does that extremely well.

    The one thing that surprised me the most was the incredible use of the map and the space available in the map. After you get passed the tutorial map, eventually you're tasked with getting all the way to the southern edge of the map. At that point I thought that was it, there's no more to explore. Oh how wrong I was, I had only unlocked half of the main map. The mountains I previously thought were just "barriers" like you'd see in other games, well you end up climbing those mountains from the other side of the range. That doubled the size of the map in such a smart way and absolutely shocked me. If there was any two things I'd want other devs to take inspiration from, it'd be the incredible use of terrain/map and the fact that you have to think about how you move. I'm tired of just holding forward and occasionally jumping in all these open world games.

      The funnier thing is people try and act like they played the whole game or enough of it to where they were playing it so long and it was so boring that they had to stop. When those same people call it a “walking simulator” it is plain to see that they didn’t even get past chapter 3 or 4 LOL. Anyone who actually played the game and got to those chapters will see that you can pretty much get vehicles any damn time you want. You can 3-D print a vehicle anytime you want and there are so many vehicles that other players leave all over the place when you are online. Aside from that there are zip lines in the game you can pretty much set up anywhere and you can also use the floating carrier as a hover board of sorts so I really don’t understand this “walking simulator” crap other than it being something that people say to intentionally shit on the game even though they have never played it and don’t intend on playing it and wouldn’t give the game a positive review regardless. A lot of those people being Xbox players who get angry at good PS4 console exclusives LOL. I never understood all of that crap. I am a Sony player but I have always been and I have nothing against Xbox I have even owned the original and 360 so I have no issues with the actual Xbox it’s just I prefer the PlayStation and that’s what I have now. The whole console war thing is childish on both sides in my opinion

      Code Talker Daigo exactly!!! I feel like these review were’s are forgetting to have a fun with the video game which is meant to have fun LOL and they’re constantly looking for something meaningful like something that affirms or promotes their ideology or something like that. And when it doesn’t then they get mad. This is escapism and yes I know people are making connections with this game to Trump and what not but whatever I don’t care about all of that. It’s fine to use that analogy about the walls and connections in a game like this because this game is meant to promote the reconnection of mankind and for everyone to be one with each other. People are getting mad that Kojima seems to be promoting some kind of anti-trump bias but it’s not that at all. Unfortunately that’s what it’s come down to in America whether you agree with it or not and I don’t really see it as Kojima taking a side I see it as him trying to convey something to everyone. Something like “look at what it’s come down to, how toxic and violent humanity has become to the point where people have to feel like they have to put up walls to protect themselves when instead as a society we should be kind to each other and make connections instead of causing the need for a wall.” Thats honestly what I took away from it.

    Website Heroines: keeping with Kojima, I've always liked The Boss from MGS3 Snake Eater (just MGS3 though, her character arc gets stupidly convoluted is sequels, classic Kojima). Why her? Because all-though she was the mother of the special forces, mother of revolver ocelot, inventor of CQC, and a soldier/spy who stoically sacrifices everything for the mission knowing she will go down in history as a traitor; She never came off as being anything other than feminine, a graceful nurturer that values personal relationships. She looked after Snake and the Cobras like they were her children all while mourning her dead lover, The Sorrow, and their child she never got to know. She had cool aesthetics as well, white camo under a green poncho while riding a white stallion using an infinity shaped drum magazine smg fighting in a field of white flowers.
    If you decide to use this, I don't really want a shout-out.
    p.s. your squarespace plug was much more subtle and creative than the blatant monster energy ads. I lol'd a little.
