BOYZ N THE HOOD is the critically acclaimed story of three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles neighborhood, and of street life where friendship, pain, danger and love combine to form reality. "The Hood" is a place where drive-by shootings and unemployment are rampant. But it is also a place where harmony coexists with adversity, especially for three young men growing up there: Doughboy (Ice Cube), an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky (Morris Chestnut), a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky's best friend Tre (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), who aspires to a brighter future beyond "The Hood." In a world where a trip to the store can end in death, the friends have diverse reactions to their bleak surroundings. Tre's resolve is strengthened by a strong father (Larry Fishburne)who keeps him on the right track. But the lessons Tre learns are put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes close to home, and violence seems like the only recourse. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

The AIDS conversation always felt like John Singleton writing a public service announcement. Any other director would have made that shit a hallmark moment with dramatic music. Instead he put out some real true and vital information to his 90's audiences without making it feel corny or forced. Just another reason why he is one of the greatest directors of all time and will sadly be missed.

The way Doughboy's mother telling Tré to talk to Doughboy about staying outta jail shows that she cared about him like Ricky. But it wasn't enough 😟
Sometimes when a mother is raising boys alone it can seem she loves one more than the other. However it’s just a deep insecurity of the man knowing he is inadequate to his sibling. That’s how I felt towards my bigger brother. Until I started getting my shit together
Cause she knows she the reason he grew up to be that, not speaking positivity into your kids can effect them in so many ways, I mean soon as they were introduced in the movie she was down talking him and belittling him....some kids can't shake that kinda shit talking...
I don't blame her at all. She was a good mother.

Knowing what happens in the movie it is kind of sad watching the scenes
This is one of my favorite scenes. Takes me back to the 90s. I remember growing up like this with my family. It's crazy how the smallest memories that we have can forever last in our hearts.
Im a child of the 90's too. My house was the one that everyone came to for BBQ's and every major family gathering throughout the year. Its strange how you can think back to those memories and almost feel like your there reliving it again...the sights, smells, feelings etc. I miss those days. That side of my family which consisted of my fathers side over time just drifted apart due to gossip, jealousy, slander etc. Sad thing. At least i have the memories and have instilled that importance of healthy family conduct and relationships to my children.
Word bro. Going to those family cookouts in Brooklyn, and the Carolina’s used to be poppin back in the 90’s - 00’s
The jamming music, good food, a bunch of smiles, and hot weather. Can’t ask for much more than that

I like the fact that tre is probably the only one of the guys in this movie with a father figure in his life, shows that a stern person like tres father in doughboys life could of helped immensely in straightening his life out.
That was the point of that
Tre father wasn't all that great of an adult figure either. I mean yes he took in tre ass when he got into the formative years, but when ricky was thinking about joining the military knowing he needed a full scholarship to go to college he comes with the BS rhetoric of black man has no business in the white man military. When reality is that the military is the only way these young black men cas get put of the ghetto and change their lives
@Pate Heckerwoods I joined the Army right out High School, too (Class of 2000) and now I’m 40 and retired. My Father was alot like Tre’s father. And yes - it does make a difference. During my Senior year of HS, My Father told me I had to do something with myself after I graduated HS, or I had to stay home and pay him rent. He gave me the choice of 4 E’s - Education, Employment, Enlist, or Evict. I chose all 4 and went into the Army. And yes I am black
@Pate Heckerwoods your attitude is what holds you back.
also notice how tre is the only one who isnt really about that stree life. he just goed with the flow cus gthey his childhood friends. it show you how a strong father figure in a boy's life can really do great

I just love the aesthetic of this time period. They all looked so natural and had fun without social media. I was born in 93, so I didn’t really get to experience the 90s like I wish I could.
For those who were able to, I know y’all had mad fun. Tell me about it, please.
It seems like the times themselves “looked” exactly like this movie lol. Rich, natural, full of emotion, yet this shaded vibe. I probably think that because a lot of our memories are also in print/photographs that also look the same way. I graduated HS in 93, you could be my son 😂. I saw this movie in Summer ‘91 while visiting family up in Milwaukee from down South. It was a lot of fun, just imagine everyone in the moment all the time, no one had a phone outside of their house phone. But we watched tv and tapes a lot. You really looked forward to things, and you just had to wait, you knew how to get places, you’d better speak in code/body language on demand too. Had to be quick on your feet, ya feel me? Truly, and I mean this, you HAD to be mature even when younger. You had a lot of responsibilities. But, it was a dark cloud over this time too, very sad at times, because so many young dudes 13-17 were brutally killed in the 90s gang violence, and the crack era was still pretty terrible too. I found myself thinking about my classmate as I type this who was killed when we were only 15. I’m 48 now. It bothered me then, bothers me at times to this day. Yeah, it was awesome though, the cars, the fashion, the music, the dances/parties, the food, laying up on the phone, hanging out at the mall, reading only physical books, it’s so much to say-as I look back, and reflect, it was as much pleasure as there was pain.
@RealHomeEconomics My bad on the lateness, but yes! Despite a lot of the bad moments that occurred in that era, it was still a whole vibe. Everything just seemed like so much fun and authentic.
As you mentioned about looking forward to actually doing things, it doesn't feel like that in these times. It seems like people don't know how to enjoy themselves nowadays. I'm guilty of it myself, but we're always on our phones now. We don't know how to live in the moment and enjoy the company of the people we're around.
Haha I could definitely be your son 🤣 I'm grateful for mediums like CZcams and archives. It gives me a glimpse into how the past was before and after I came into existence.
Fortunately, I'm glad I got to live in the early and mid 2000s.

yo wtf, the guy who returned Ricky's ball is gone? That's fukked up.
So, on the video titled "Boyz N The Hood - My Brother's Ball(Movie Clip)", the comment section is sadly disabled. One of the comments I remember on there which will always stick by me as long as I live is this:
Someone on there said how Mad Dog, the guy who returned Ricky's ball, saw potential and a bright future in Ricky. When he saw Ricky and Ricky saw him, Mad Dog must have sensed a kindred spirit in Ricky which motivated Mad Dog to return the ball back to Ricky.
While Mad Dog spends his teenage & young adult years living in the ghetto and having to put up with the lousy & severely unpleasant experiences in an area that boxes the average black man wherever he goes, he gave the ball back towards Ricky as a genuine act of kindness.
Its those things like that get things started for greater/important things to come. Life does not always have to be terrible & crappy.
Well said

People said that Brenda didn't love Dough, and this scene clearly shows otherwise. She threw him a coming home party and begged Tre to try and talk sense into him. Life is hard.
She loved him, but she was fed up, frustrated and tired of everything. She had to raise 2 men (3 counting Ricky jr.) on her own and did the best she could but she was based enough to know that she couldn't replace the father figure in the house. She needed a man in her life and her house, but there was none, that's what made her unhappy.
Na, it wasn't enough. She still had a favorite and that was Ricky. Parents shouldn't have favorites. The way she treated Dough in the beginning should've been obvious enough how she felt. She hated his father, and he got the blame for it.

Deep Jahi is so dope. I can't stop watching this track again and again. I am sure he will be #1 soon due to A u t h e n t i c V i e w s D o a t C o a m
Sure am glad i grew up in the 90s. So grateful.
Damn this scene is so relatable. Makes me think of my friends as a teen.
I've always loved Morris Chestnut's character as Ricky....tall, dark and handsome.
Just think the biggest star from this scene to today is Regina King.
Her work has been incredible.
And don't forget about Nia Long
@@stephaniewells1054 Nia Long has had a great career, but King is doing it as a actress, writer and director.
Not bad for someone who had a scene for less than 10 words in that movie.
@@123slasher.16 and had about the same screen time in Friday
Regina🏆King,
Is Forever Beautiful & Raw.
one of the best black classics there is
What's crazy is that when doughboy's mom told tre to talk to doughboy and that some of him will rub off on doughboy which did happen at the end
Right but it took blood to be shed for him to realize than he end up killed
funny how ppl say she didn’t love him… she definitely loved ricky more but her love for him had to be tough cause of his lifestyle
@@moneymatters8457 if she didn't love him she would of been put him out also
Also her telling Ricky that she'd be the one taking care of his kids was a little foreshadowing.
@@moneymatters8457 Brenda didn't love Doughboy. She never loved him nor made him feel loved. Brenda treated Doughboy like shit when she treated Ricky like a fucking saint
