    I work at an upscale retail store in the men's department. I see a lot of Rolex on wrists everyday, 75% of the Rolex I see are Submariner's. One day a man came in, I looked at his wrist and said "oh my gosh I love that watch, what is it?" He told me it's the Tudor Pelagos Titanium. I loved the gunmetal looking bracelet , the matte finish and the way it looked on his wrist. I actually wrote down the information on the spot so I could look it up when I got home. This watch is beautiful. Every dude has a Sub. The Pelagos is unique and wonderful.

      @@jaysikes4256 I will say many of the Subs are very different, a lot of variety, they are all great looking. Very ubiquitous at my work and in my area near Orlando, I find myself day after day saying "nice Subby." I see too many ever to consider getting one. Now the GMT Master 2 Batman, that is another story. I want one!

    3 years of owning Pelagos 25600tn i gotta say its the best daily wearer. Almost full titanium, ceramic bracelet bearings, spring adjustment clasp. I been swiming and free diving with it since the day i had it and it holds perfect time. Never seen a Rolex owner deeper than 1 meeter of pool constatly looking on the dial just in case anything happens 😁 Dont forget to rinse your diver folks!

    Very well articulated Jay. I feel similar on all points--the sub ceased being a tool diver decades ago. Wear what you like, but especially now because the Pelly has an in house movement, essentially Rolex made, it really cannot be beat as one of the best value props out there. I've got my sights on the LHD.

    • @jaysikes4256
      @jaysikes4256  Před 5 lety

      Hello, It holds up quite well. The biggest scratch magnet is the stainless steel clasp (but that's any watch). it ran great for several months, then lost time. I took it to RSC and they fixed it right up (still under warranty). If you are buying new, you're covered. If buying pre-owned, make sure to get the warranty card and make sure there is time left. If you have a warrant card, and you're not a prick, you can go to RSC and they should honour the warranty even if you're not the original owner. It's their discretion, so politeness goes a long way. I've seen them honour and not, based on the person's attitude.

    • @DrRandomStranger
      @DrRandomStranger Před 5 lety

      thank you for your answer! i read about the scratch magnet/clasp. but thats not a problem for me. and yeah, as with all mechanical watches, they need to be serviced once in a while. in austria, we have basically just three official sellers. all of them are in the capital. if i buy the pelagos, i would have to come to the capital to let it be serviced. i own a nomos, which i bought eight years ago from a smaller seller in my hometown. they check the watch once a year every year for free! this is incredible service. and this might be the only dealbreaker for me, if the official seller from the pelagos does expect a lof of money from me just for adjusting time and checking for issues. i might visit all sellers and ask for their service (cost) after the end of the official warranty time. and hey! as for me, i am choosing between the pelagos and the nomos club neomatic atlantic. so as an andult, we can choose between any two watches we want! btw. you are a very friendly youtuber! i like that!

      When I was early into watches, I felt I needed to buy what everyone else was, and what was most popular because that was a safe move. As my taste has refined, I'm learning to trust my instincts more. I'm still learning, but I'd like to think I'm a better watch collector now than I was a couple of years ago, and that has nothing to do with the number of watches, or the amount of money spent. Thanks for the comment. Great to hear you are enjoying your ORIS.

  • @AZATBEK1

    Jay, I completely agree with your arguments. I don't know the reason why you decided to make the video in the first place. But now that it started a debate, I think your reasonings are perfectly understandable. I think the same way. Pelagos is a great watch. When I first saw it online, i thought it would be big for me. But recently, in a boutique in Frankfurt, i tried it on, it fit quite well. Didn't look too big at all. The color is nice, titanium is lighter and looking understated. I have the Submariner. In black. I am also a bit disappointed that it is maybe too common. It's a beautiful watch. And you are right, it's very versatile. But I my attention is turned toward the Tudor as a brand this year. I like the Black Bay and the Pelagos. Suddenly. I think it's outgrowing the "want a Rolex but can't afford one" image. It is a good watch in itself, regardless of the price. Around $4000 is not a cheap watch. I have watches much more expensive than both of these, but you know well, that it doesn't make $4000 a cheap watch. I am also similar to you in that I never cared about the resale value. You always lose anyway. I just don't sell. We are not dealers or stores, we can't sell well. We are regular people. So to me, as I said, your words are easy to understand, I agree. Both great watches and you made some good points for prospective buyers to think about. I am considering now the Blue Submariner to get the Color that I like, but I a Pelagos may very well suffice. The blue Submariner, I tried one on in Dubai, is really cool. Understated. Cost more than 3 times than the steel one, but still, it can worth that for those who get it. That way the prestige is also covered. The color. The uncommonness. It's not an easy choice, have to think it over well.

    I agree, get and hold onto whatever checks the most boxes for you. I was on a waitlist for a Batman and after so long purchased a blue Pelagos and wore it every day, never taking it off. Well one day I get a call from the AD telling me my Batman (jubilee) had arrived and wanted to know if I still wanted to purchase it. Of course I did, I've wanted that watch for years. I take it home and much to my surprise, it just didn't excite me. Now don't get me wrong, it is a stunningly handsome watch but.....I've come to prefer the simplicity, movement and rugged looks of the Pelagos. Sold the Batman in a day which was considerably over what I paid and more than enough to reimburse me for the cost of the Pelagos. It's all about what brings you the most joy in ownership.

    • @jaysikes4256
      @jaysikes4256  Před 4 lety +1

    For me Rolex is too expensive for what it is(to me anyway- they sell loads so they’re not too expensive for the millions who buy them!) and they are also really common(again common because they’re good and well made) but both these factors would stop me buying a Rolex.
    I love the blue Pelagos but equally there’s a part of me that wonders if I’ll always feel like it’s a “make do Rolex”- but I love the looks and especially the blue... I’m genuinely on the fence. I own a Seiko Marinemaster and love that so why is feel a Tudor is a cheap Rolex when I wear a Seiko is silly but it’s the only thing stopping me getting a Pelagos.
    How’s it wear in terms of scratches?

Pelagos is great and it's much more sporty then a Submariner. Titanium grade 2 and 5 are awesome and is considered an exotic metal for watches. For the value.. hmm.. I don't think that the Submariner makes double comparing the two watches. You did a good choice because the price of the Pelagos is going up day by day. The movement is awesome too. I promised my wife I would discipline myself 😀. If you could only keep one, which would it be? Also I do have the Submariner no date (my wrists are too small for a Pélagos). I adore my Submariner but tend not to wear it simply because it’s too recognizable. I wear my watches for me and not for the people around me. I’m a civil servant and in my world a Rolex is considered unobtainable. So I guess the Sub was not the best choice. I instead wear my Omega Speedmaster all the time (nobody ever spotted it). All of a sudden, I'm in love and it is jumping to my top or second top choice for a new watch I might treat myself to some time in the next few months. Blue it would be. I saw one in the wild and itvhas true wrist presence in a unique package. And, although I don't personally really by watches for Investments is always nice to know that you could probably wear this watch for a couple years sell it for what you paid for it. Not sure why anyone would want to leave a racist or aggressive comment. I'm lucky enough to own both of the watches as shown. The Submariner is a very classy watch that can be worn in any situation but that I reserve for special occasions. It's also increased in value considerably since I bought it. The Pelagos is a superb everyday watch and the blue is stunning. The titanium means that while it's slightly larger than the Submariner, it's also slightly lighter and very easy and comfortable to wear. The fact that titanium is also hypoallergenic helps with everyday wear.

      We should all be asking ourselves questions, having civil discussions, and making comments. I disagree that people need to own something in order to make a comment or opinion on it. I think anyone who is into watches should own a Rolex at some point, because you will learn about your own tastes in that experience. Consider a pre-owned model. If you don't prefer it after a year or so, you can get out of it without too much of a financial blow if any.
