I'd really like to see how his act works in german. I mean, the exaggerated accent is a big part of his charm. Needless to say he can't do that in german.

You really gotta admire Flula, it's not easy staying in character non-stop and coming up with hilarious and witty comebacks to everything. He can't give a normal answer, everything has to be silly, that's not easy to do. He has amazing improv skills and is clearly super smart.
Especially since many of the jokes are a dig at his "limited" English, when it's obvious that his English has to be incredible. I genuinely can't tell where the character begins and the real Flula ends.
He should have a show of his own!
Honestly - he is amazing. I work in Austria - I have also worked in Germany and to be that fast and on point is crazy. You have to think in two languages at once.He has a really broad bandwidth - he reminds me a lot of the old comedy greats like Bob Hope or Red Skelton. I thoroughly enjoy his appearances on Conan. 😊
He is like that. It's his humor. It's his character.
@@fugithegreat His mastery of the English language is indeed quite good, even in how he garbles it (and garbling is a big part of how the English language works - just look at Shakespeare).

Here he's taking two cliche phrases generally not perceived as related and both assumed to be true ("If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" and "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results"), and combining them to present one philosophy while reminding you of the contradicting one in order to comedically undermine his own point, and he structures it as setup (the beginning of the saying, trailing off into getting the wording wrong) and punchline (landing on a clear reminder of the other saying at the very end). The work of a true wordsmith, and I have no idea if he thought of it on the spot or came up with it beforehand, but either way, that's good craftsmanship.
The comedic chemistry between these two is simply ungodly

For a bit of trivia, the first Star Wars movie was the only one which got fully translated in Germany, meaning they kept everything the same as in the English version, just adopted it to german pronuncation. Tatooine became Tatuuin. And Star Wars was Krieg der Sterne, War of the Stars. When Star Wars became the juggernaut that it is, names weren't changed anymore. Hans Olo however, was obviously something that never happened.

The most impressive one was when they were both making nonsense noises and conan was like "doobedi doo, jab jab, giddy giddy" and in a split second flula says "up" and acts like he's mounting a horse looking confused.

In complete seriousness... Flula is genius... His constant character coordination is amazing. Staying in character to such a degree that even his words he makes up on the fly, his witty references and non stop German accent is performance art! Reminds me of Sasha Baron Cohen as Borat or Bruno
he's actually German! he's playing it up because he's playing a character, but that's his voice and accent :) it makes it even better imo because the way he goofs with the English language is a sign of how brilliant he is -- that he can take English idioms and garble them in a cartoonish-German way but still make them understandable and funny? iconic

Conan’s been pretty chill on his show during the pandemic, It’s interesting seeing him bump up his energy level to match flula
I really have appreciated Conan the most during this pandemic period of the show or whatever. He was always genuine, but he seemed to have been especially real this last year, and interviews have felt a lot less scripted, and more electric and natural.

Flula Borg is one of my favorite human beings that has ever existed.
I guess I missed that Flula was on recently. I have an entire playlist devoted to his Conan appearances and this proves to me personally yet again that Conan is the greatest of all time. He knows his audience so, SO well. And we know him and know when he's truly enjoying his time with a guest.
