Morty has to have one of the best glow ups I've ever seen. His gen 2 design felt like the only dead things he owned were the clothes in his closet. Now he looks like a proper Ghost leader and as a plus, really freaking cool to boot.
Also same with Pryce who literally looks like a genric old man NPC in gen 2
I think the colors of Morty's scarf were the inspiration for the color given to Mega Gengar in X and Y
I think Morty's headband is meant to invoke the spirit medium aesthetic that the gym has going on. Such a good redesign.
I think it's weird how he didn't show the in-game Gen 2 sprites for Morty and Karen, as they're VERY differently designed (and better, in my opinion).
Morty's new look is trying too hard; "thith guy trainth ghothth, ooooh!!!" His old look was unique and realistic.
I think they chose Jasmine's soft look and light color palette to contrast the hardness of the steel type. Yes, it's cool to see a gym leader who dresses like their pokemon type, but real people are more complex than that. Jasmine flips that concept on its head, and she's probably my favorite design out of all of them for that reason. It makes her character intriguing.
Her design also sort of matches her personality as a sweet, caring individual; which further contrasts the coldness of steel
Pretty much the same thing with Karen tbh, you'd expect the first Dark type trainer to be the final villain and will look mysterious and sees their pokemon as tools.
But what we got is your average mom in a friday night lol, although despite the dark type, she values all her Pokemon dearly, really cool subverting expectations tbh.
But at the same time, jasmine is still kinda steely in that she is quiet and defensive of her friends and Pokémon.
@@ammagon4519 Karen is such a queen honestly
Yes I really think that's something we lost from older pokemon games. Like the trope of gym leaders making their types obvious didn't appear until at least gen 3 . I know a lot of people prefer the newer designs but I think the older ones just had more depth and humanity, they felt like actual characters rather than just gym leaders, despite appearing less in game. I feel that especially the gen 7 and 8 type specialists make it so obvious what their types are it make them look really shallow, almost like a caricature of themselves.
Just wanted to point out that the "goofy looking tie" that Bugsy wears in HGSS is a neckerchief. It sort of makes his HGSS version look a lot like a Boy Scout, which I find kind of neat.
yup
"Boy Scout"
...you mean a "Camper?"
I thought of boy scout too
@@geekgo4 I mean, the camper class of trainers basically are boy scouts. so same thing xD
The original looks like a ranger. The redesign looks like a boy scout.
And can we know why he would need a magnifying glass???? Bug pokemon aren't small
Chuck's new art has all the vibes of a man who will casually destroy you in battle between reps, but even if he loses will laugh and still spot you at the bench. He's got that 'Experienced Stronger Than You But Very Friendly Gym Bro' vibe
Then he use 2 pokemon who got ko by any flying pokemon
@@ferrucciocaracciuolo8139 lmao are you flexing?
@@machina5 no
GSC CHUCK: Cool, tough, serious - exudes an aura of experience.
HGSS CHUCK: "DERP, ME LIFT WEIGHTS! GYAHAHA!!!"
If Robert Baratheon were a gym leader.
Personally I like Karen's new look. There's just something funny about imagining this woman who dresses so casually and who's outfit almost radiates a friendly aura use Pokémon that are meant to represent evil and darkness. Kind of like Phoebe who wears bright and colorful clothing and is very cheery, yet uses ghost types which are typically also seen as kind of being evil or mysterious
I don't think Karen ever radiated a "friendly" aura look lol
I enjoyed Karen's sexy tight-fitting dress a lot more. And Whitney's booty shorts. And Jasmine's cute little dress.
Nah the black dress is simple enough to fit with her type without it being obvious
@@ammagon4519 But his dialogue sounds like a motivational advice.
@@JackfrostAtreidesOmegaXZero oh yeah, I'm just talking about how Karen doesn't look friendly in a usual sense, I mean just look at her, she looks like she's planning nasty plots (pun intended)
Jasmine's design was supposed to be a contrast to the "Tough Hardened Steel" Pokemon she uses. She's dainty and fair with an overall kind aesthetic, which is the complete opposite. It easily catches you off guard.
Doubly so when she uses her Steelix in a Pokémon Super Contest back in DPPt.
Its all fine and dandy until she OH'KO's your Typhosion with an EQ.
I don't see how it would catch you off guard considering by the time you battle her you know she's a steel type gym leader
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme When I fought her in HG I thought she was gonna be an electric type gym. I guess I didn't pay enough attention. Then again, I was 11 when I played that game so I don't remeber
@@royaltypebros.5915 Same, saw an artwork of her with a magnemite back then and thought she's an electric type.
Morty really embodied the saying "be careful with who you called ugly in middle school". He was probably my first Pokemon character crush lol
youre so right. hes so good
his new pokemon masters ex outfits arent helping
we have so many characters already where their design is just "I'm wearing a red shirt because I am a fire type trainer", that it makes me want more designs that aren't solely relying on their type specialty. I'd love to see more designs that capture both the individual's personality and style, as well as having a nice color palette that isn't so obviously representing a single type! That's why I really like Jasmine's outfit, she seems like a soft timid girl in appearance, but is contrasted by her steel specialty! It shows both personality and style without relying on steel!
Exactly. In GSC, the characters looked unique and realistic; in HGSS, they have this new anime look with derpy hair and smirks and these cliche "look what type I use!" outfits.
@@hanburgundy4317 yeah man, you can really tell Karen is a dark type trainer with all the yellow and sky blue colors flowing around.
I thought that having cyan and vermilion as the main colors on Jasmine’s HGSS design was supposed to allude to copper oxidation (changing from orangish to turquoise/green as it ages). It’s a fun way of subtly hinting that she’s a steel-type gym leader.
Maybe give them an outfit associated with the type like a miner for Rock
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 There's only so many miners and rock-related things you can do before you have to either start getting creative or actually make characters and not 2d cutouts of Pokémon types
On Karen: A possible reason why her new fit is so light in contrast to her dark-type specialty is because of other aspects of darkness. In particular, the disks on her pants and her new white and yellow color scheme remind me of the moon! Her wispy hair also kinda illicit images of clouds illuminated in the night by the moon
Then she'd look more like a morning sky then lol, all with that sky blue and yellow.
Eh I prefer the original more
What a coincidence that Umbreon also represents the moon.
It makes them pair pretty well together.
Heartgold and Soulsilver should be the standard when it comes to remakes. Shame that Diamond and Pearl didn't get the same treatment
Only thing holding HGSS back from being perfect in my eyes is that it didn’t carry over Crystal’s changes to the encounter tables and making what were rarer Pokémon more accessible. Like making Snubble available on more routes at a higher rate, Sneasel available in Ice Path at night, and Phanphy available at the start of the game in the morning, for example.
@@CaptainObliviousV But they added the Safari Zone where you can get almost all those 2nd gen Pokémon you could originally find only in Kanto
Maybe it becauce I never liked G/S/C but at best hg/Ss are okay remakes as the horrible level curve and bland kanto still there.
@@CaptainObliviousV Horrible level curve and future kanto is still very bland shouldn't be forgotten to mentioned
@@Acacius1992 Well I don't see how a bad level curve and a region that is completely a postgame bonus can make a game bad.
Faulkner rocking that Tengu fashion without the hat is the interesting part. His jacket having that design that Tengus wear and also the fact he's a flying gym leader is what give him the good drip
I feel like Morty's scarf is probably supposed to resemble Misdreavous's evolution: Mismagius, and it really fits so well when you think about it. What better way to hint of this game being a remake of an old gen in Gen 4, than to use the sorta color scheme of a recently introduced Gen 4 pokemon that evolves from a Gen 2 pokemon. Whether this design choice was that intentional or not is a mystery, but that's my little headcanon lol
I totally love Morty's redesign, but I actually like the GSC version too because of the contrast between his style (90s peak fashion somewhere, not a person I'd associate with the ghost type) and his Pokémon
Honestly, the blue and yellow look good together.
Mega gengar teaser actually
2:50 "goofy looking tie"
My man never saw a boy scout in his life
I've always felt that Jasmine's design not 'matching' what you'd expect of a Steel type Gym Leader works really well because her status is meant to be a bit of a surprise the first time you play the game. So, it makes sense that they would make her look completely different to what you'd be expecting.
And yet the greenish blue dress still hints at her specialty, as it resembles oxidized copper. Just not obvious about it.
I absolutely adore Jasmine's original design, especially for that piece of art, cuz i love how you can see her body silhouetted under the dress. I love that kind of art effect
I've been playing Pokemon Crystal on 3DS Virtual Console for a bit and gosh it feels like a totally different experience to HGSS despite both games being in the same region and HGSS adapting a lot from Crystal version. Game Freak really smashed it out of the park with this remake in pretty much every aspect. The old design for Silver (the rival) almost looks like a girl in sprite form to me. I also find it funny that despite their best efforts and even with the new designs, the Team Rocket Executives are still one of the most looked-over aspects of the Johto games. It really is the one Pokemon game where the story doesn't matter much at all. Even Gen 1 has Blue bossing you around and motivating you to get stronger so you can put him in his place.
Yeah ngl, Johto's main story is pretty weak, it does have some interesting characters tho to compensate with that.
Morty's original outfit is a pretty Japanese specific look associated with sort of hippie or newage religious/spiritual types. He looks exactly like the type of person who would tell you your house is legit haunted and try to sell you crystals about it. I'm having trouble really thinking of another good example of it because it's been out of style for so long, but the fortune teller S-Link in Persona 5 fits the same niche, although she feels a little more passably modern rather than as specifically outdated as Morty's original design.
Ah that makes sense, I know this is unrelated a bit, but I'm kinda bugged out about Lorelei's design, not that it's bad, but like I just don't see the relation of Ice types to her business woman look.
He was changed from "Gold" to "Ethan" because he was never actually named Gold; it was a mistranslation. His Japanese name has always been "Hibiki", which does not translate to Gold. Silver, on the other hand, uses the kanji for Silver as his original Japanese name.
Ngl Gold sounds like an odd name to begin with, at least Red and Silver sounds like actual names. Green and Blue and Leaf on the other hand are still strange names.
@@ammagon4519 an odd name, you say?
*Gold Roger intensifies*
I think he's named Gold in the manga series. Same as all the other protagonists they go by their color names.
His name is Gold in Pokémon Adventures
I honestly like original Morty he’s got this certain charm to him that I just like, I also have a huge crush on him. But I do like how they redesign his clothes to fit more with the ghost typing and he’s still hot.
It’s crazy that Morty was meant to look like Misdreavus AND THEN DIDN’T HAVE ONE
Fun Fact: He do have a Misdreavus in the manga Pokémon Adventures.
wake up babe new gatorex !!
Morty in GSC: Looking like a hipster with the dryest fit in the world.
Morty in HG/SS: Drippier than a god damn rainstorm.
Those spots on Falkner’s clothes remind me of those pompoms you see on the clothing of tengu and monks. Considering Tengu are Yokai resembling crows and are associated with wind, I wonder if that was a hint to his position as a flying type gym leader.
“mixed bag” is a great way to describe how i feel about the HGSS redesigns. while there are definitely some huge improvements like morty and the rocket execs, theres something about the simplicity of the gen 2 designs that i just love. maybe its nostalgia, but IMO theres no beating kris and gen 2 jasmine
The Old design of Will legit looks like he could be paul’s dad
Now that I think about it, that's probably where they got the inspiration for his design.
Pryce was originally going to be a gym leader of another type rather than ice, also wanted to point out that karen's new design fits shiny houndoom
True but I kinda like the original design more
I like that all the older Ice type Gym Leaders dress in summer clothes because they're so used to being around the cold it doesn't affect them
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 same dude, I like his original design better, it had that "comfort is king" vibe to it that old people have, and having a summer time fit while being an ice type user is like a big flex like the cold is just spring time weather
@@flapjackpancake5486 Yeah I feel younger Pokémon fans praiss the newer designs just because, though what's weird is that Gator grew up with Gen 2 or I imagine considering the old Pokémon commericals and clips from episodes he always plays at the end of videos. Some of the remake designs straight up miss the point of the original character. Also he said that Mahogany doesn't look tropical but it also never looked cold either.
What type?
Great vid, but quick correction, Jasmine's dress is actually miscolored in her official artwork, if you look at her sprite and in game model in Masters, it's actually a cyan green or seafoam green color. Also I think the whole point of Jasmine's design is that she's not supposed to look like a steel-type trainer to create contrast.
I also think that having cyan and vermilion as the main colors on Jasmine’s HGSS design was supposed to allude to copper oxidation (changing from orangish to turquoise/green as it ages). It’s a fun way of subtly hinting that she’s a steel-type gym leader.
Same for Morty actually.
He wears black/purple in his sprite
Will’s mask when’s from 50% phantom thief to 100% phantom thief
I actually really like the old Morty design.
I mean what fits better for a ghost trainer than an outfit which doesn't stick out of the crowd. Ghosts are supposed to be elusive, and instead of jumpscaring you, he surprises you by just casually beeing the Gym Leader of the City.
Also think about how eerie and out of place he would look, if all Gym Leaders go to there annual Meetup (which I hope will become canon at some point xD).
Everybody is looking like his own superhero/protagonist, and then theres Morty. Just a normal dude.
I think it would have been even greater if they stuck with the 90s look, since he would then be like a person stuck in time. LIke maybe he himself is a ghost of a person that died back in the fire of the sacred tower, and therefore still wears clothes from the time he was living. This obviously doesn't really work for original games, but would have been cool in the remakes. With a few npcs that are just talking about how there has been no new gymleader, since the time the tower burned down and the gymleader sacrificed himself to safe some people from the fire. etc, etc.
Also, I think the single color design for Jasmine works really good, since steel normally is monochrome, therefore only having one color. And white fits also really good, since metallic clothes aren't really a thing, and the next most reflective color is white. Also seems odly pure for a pokemon character. Which is a cool contrast to the, at the time mostly, scary looking steel monsters.
I also always had the feeling that the Johto Gymleader are just normal people, all a bit more stern than kanto. They all have lives next to also beeing a Gymleader. Falkner and Clair beeing the only ones that are doing it fulltime. Falkner because he's young and full of passion, and Clair because lance is her older brother, and since Lance is the leader of the Top Four she feels forced to be extra as a gymleader. So she is stil beeing seen as a capable person, even if she's compared to Lance.
Those are huuuuge stretches
They are. Morty literally just is based on the japanese media stereotype of what a scamming peddler of ghostly stuff looks like. Just shows how people can do the craziest acrobatics to justify their position if they start with an opinion and bend stuff to fit that. @@itsgonnabeanaurfromme
It's interesting that you bring up Ariana and Silver's resemblance - because I always felt like Team Galactic's Mars looked like another potential relative.
The similarities feel kind of deliberate, what with HG/SS being part of Gen 4 too...
Maybe Silver could have a sister he doesn't know about.
Speaking of Team Galactic, Fantina and Jupiter look kinda oddly similar as well.
To be honest, I played DPPt first, so when i saw Silver i said "This guy has something to do with Mars"... And i got the disappointment of my life when i saw Ariana
2:19 The arrangement of the white spots on Falkner's jacket reminds me of yuigesa, which is a pompom sash worn by yamabushi monks and the tengu (a bird-like yokai with wind powers). It's a very simple yet clever detail
Morty will always speak to me as best redesign of the game, it made me love him more here in HGSS, since he matches more like his Ghost types, which is my favorite type, and he’s just so cool overall 😍
The Johto remakes brought some of the sickest drips in the franchise.
Maybe the reason Karen’s not dressing like a Dark trainer is because, unlike everyone else who’ve decided they are type specialists and are going to make their entire lives about a single type, she just uses her favorites, which just so happen to be Dark-types.
Bugsy & Whitney's new art feel like they're staring into my soul
it fits with Whitney tbh
The Virgin Ethan VS THE CHAD GOLD
Old Morty looks like they accidentally used (or recycled) what was supposed to be the 'Skater' class' key art XD Definitely not 'ghost leader', but very much a 'dude'
Oh yeah, not bad and totally fits with Pokémon, just super unexpected.
@@GatorEX You expect him to just be a background character XD
For me Morty looks more like a surfer, he only needs a surfboard to complete the design.
3:47 the only way you could somewhat tell he’s a ghost type gym leader is because of his badge, other than that he looks like any other trainer
Morty literally looks like a generic trainer class like hipster or something lol
The old artworks in full quality are gorgeous
HeartGold and SoulSilver were literally THE BEST REMAKES IVE EVER PLAYED TO THIS DAY
I’m starting to notice the first 4 remakes of the regions are following a theme of a season. Like Kanto is Spring as weather is cool but mild. Johto is Autumn as the weather is cooling down from summer and people are wearing warmer clothing. Hoenn is obvious summer as everyone is wearing tropical clothing and it’s always hot and humid in some routes. And last, Sinnoh (despite no remake differences), everyone is wearing winter clothing and there is a huge mountain and the region is said to be near to the Arctic of the world.
And somehow the only trainer whose specializes in Ice is the only one who's not even wearing any winter clothing lol (you know her name)
I really love HGSS' designs, maybe because it was my first Pokémon game, maybe because it's my favourite, maybe because I love Karen and Clair, who knows? All I know is that they did a great job
Morty in the older art looks like he was supposed to have been in Pryce’s gym but then Game Freak decided “f*ck it, let’s make him a Ghost type Gym leader and if anyone asks us anything, we’ll just say he’s ‘a shiny.’ And if anyone asks about THAT, we’ll tell them to go to the Lake of Rage cuz there’s a suprise waiting for them in it.”
I feel like it's important to mention that the in Generation 2 the protagonists didn't have a name,
This can be shown best with Ethan's and Kris's counterparts,
Ethan had Gold in the Pokemon Adventures Manga and Jimmy in Pokemon Chronicles
Kris had Crystal in the Manga and Marina in Pokemon chronicles
It is also important to mention that Red only got his name in Gen 2 so Red's counterpart Ash was named before he was.
While the Manga has kept up the tradition of changing the characters name to one of the games titles (well most of the time) the anime did not as when Lyra appeared in the Anime she did not have a diffrent name, same as all the other protagonists in the show.
Ethan was called Gold as a fan name likely coming from the Manga and the fact that one of the games were called Gold
Kris never had her name in any game until Pokemon masters though she was called that before that game, don't remember why.
So why is Silver still called Silver then and never given a "real name" wasn't that also a fan made name?
Kris’s name was actually on the back of the box for Pokémon Crystal. One of the earliest protagonist to have an official name.
@@JEZ346 I remember playing HG for the first time and, not knowing what to do, I just opted out of naming him and it gave him “Soul” as a default name. Found out later that it’d give him “Heart” as the default in SS.
@@CEDL0W "Kris" is also the first default option that shows up for the female name.
Finally someone understands, Ethan just sounds like a reasonable and normal name than "Gold" lol.
Karten (and I think also jasmine) are both intentionally designed to contrast the type they're training.
It's in their dialogues
I like how Claire's outfit has those stripes on the sides that _kiiind_ of look like scales, which hey, dragons are supposed to have!
7:30 Karen redesign is just EXCELLENT.
Old Karen was too generic, beauty lady with a party dress, kinda meh. New Karen has much more personality. A bit more baggy clothing, colors that remembers Umbreon but are not too obvious about her pokemon type. Also the darker hair suited her well and I find this new pose more interesting. Very cool.
I'm kind of a somewhat mixed bag on both of her designs tbh.
On one hand you can see the night and "dark" vibes in her older design, and almost gives her this malevolent and shady look, which makes more sense considering Dark types in Japan are called "Evil" types, so Karen having this dark femme fatale look is cool as heck.
On the other hand, her newer design is less on the nose and portrays more of her casual and "Win with your favorites" side, hence why the colors look like the morning sky despite her Pokemon types, really makes her design stand out despite being a Dark type trainer.
My conclusion is that no matter what outfit she wears, she'd still look like a bltch lol, and GameFreak should put her in more games so she could get more outfits lmao.
I also forgot to mention that I guess they also chose yellow as a color to resemble Umbreon, which makes sense considering in the HGSS rematch, Karen's ace Pokemon becomes Umbreon instead of Houndoom so there's that.
I always love redesigns in Pokémon games. For the most part of course. I think the most glow ups we see are the gym leaders or elite four.
As much as I think gen 4 and later had the designs down pat to be awesome, I'm sad that bdsp didn't update any designs. Like, quite a few Johto or Hoenn leaders just got slight updates, but they were great.
Old Morty's design kinda reminds me of drednaw, not only because of the color scheme, but also his hair kinda resembles drednaw's spikes
Morty's redesign may have inspired hisuian typhlosion
definitely agree on Bugsy being the one downgrade, fantastic discovery with the Gen 2 official art
I think they're all downgrades lol
A small detail I've noticed about Chuck is he's also a little thinner, which could be a nice callback to when his wife said he needed to get out more
Or probably just the artstyle being less blocky tbf
Lillie: “I wonder if Clair can help me with outfit?”
Both original and remake designs have something going for them, but I love the faces of the original designs. It feels more anime and looks cooler to me.
The buttons on Will's coat look like smiley faces. I can't unsee it
I guess it's fitting for his much more jester look in his new design I guess.
NGL I fn love the gym badges being part of the design. If the gym leaders carried the badge motifs I think people wouldn’t be so “lmao wtf is that” when they get the badge.
once saw someone describe Karen's design as "light in the darkness" and brought up the fact that she uses umbreon (glowing yellow rings) and houndoom (fire, which casts light) to support their statement
That seems to be a bit of stretch tbh, maybe Houndoom could just be explained considering their appearance resemble the devil, so Karen, being a decently nice woman kinda lets you know that despite their shady looking appearance, they are still genuine and meant in good heart.
The way Jasmine's steel type is depicted in her design comes from her overall design. Her appearence is meant to look very sanitized, scymetrical and clean. The use of grey-lightened colors leads to her kinda looking like a silvery doll. Especially the eyes of her redesign. I'm getting steel Pinocchio, "the perfect little girl"/ shy daughter of the robotic scientist that hides in the laboratory vibes.
Nah I just think it's just "little girl has big steel snake Pokemon" lol
I thought my love for Pokemon character designs wasn’t really shared by the majority of fans so i’m happy to see this channel giving this aspect of Pokemon some love
With Claire's new outfit, I like that the stripe of pale blue down the middle with darker blue on either side resembles the white stripe down all of her pokemon (most noticeably on dragonair) and the horizontal lines across the darker blues remind me of gyarados' body segments as well as the stripes down the paler front of kingdra and dragonite. I also like how the added colours and lines help to break up her outfit to make it more visually interesting.
I really like Jasmines New design! But I do really like and miss the pretty white dress. It’s just looks so pretty and flowy! And I’m a sucker dresses like that!
And a gym leader doesn’t always need to match the type it uses!
Karen looks great in both designs!
Old Karen looks like a evil Beauty Trainer, kinda cool
Ohhhhh, yeah that makes sense.
I think that's pretty much the idea, every beauty type trainers only have their Pokemons because they look "cute", and most of those are normal type.
Karen on the other hand, while has different types of Pokemon, still follows the ideology a bit, since she mentioned that she likes Dark type Pokemons because of how tough they look. Also a great contrast to what would a Dark type trainer would've looked like.
early Morty looks like he about to sign up for a yoga class
Morty went from a hippie into a hipster
GSC Morty is what me and my sister like to call "lame Morty". His HG and SS redesign looks so much better.
“Lame Morty,” oh no 😭
Bugsy’s tie resembles the ties that Boy Scouts wear. I forget what they’re called but they’re like a handkerchief that you tie a special way around your neck.
"Of course with every remake, comes a lot of character redesigns." *Cries in BDSP*
Morty went from stealing your lunch money to stealing your girl.
Even though I have never played much Pokémon games, especially the main line games and have no idea what the lore is behind any of these games, I really enjoy your videos!
I like listening to them while I draw and you talking about their designs make me want to make my character designs look simple yet eye catching!
Thank you!
My immediate thought with Jasmine’s redesign is copper, even though that probably wasn’t the intention. The blue is aged, the orange is… fresh?
Or, the orange could be rust, since that’s what metal is known to do
Jasmine's dress is miscolored in her official artwork, it's actually a seafoam or cyan green color in her sprite and model
@Completely Giving Up Me too. I thought that having cyan and vermilion as the main colors on Jasmine’s HGSS design was supposed to allude to copper oxidation (changing from orangish to turquoise/green as it ages). It’s a fun way of subtly hinting that she’s a steel-type gym leader.
The fact that there was an event in Japan we're it was heavily hinted that silvers dad is Giovanni is funny because the red head rocket executive looks so much like silver so I would love to think her and Giovanni had so relationship
Not just hinted - confirmed that's to Firered/Leafgreen noting that Giovanni has a red haired son.
The Rocket Admin who mentioned it *also* has red hair and a very similar team - using both Arbok as well as a Vileplume for an ace. So she's very likely supposed to be Arianna from GSC/HGSS. She's also accompanied by a male Rocket Admin who has a Weezing and a Houndoom as an ace - like Archer from HGSS. So if anyone would know about Silver being Giovanni's kid - it'd be those two.
@@jaernihiltheus7817 really? When was that part in FRLG?

Old Morty looks like he’ll put on some Green Day while loitering at the mall after you beat him
New Morty looks like he smoked some green stuff before you even arrived at the gym. His face is way too content for hanging around with ghosts in the dark
Morty's redesign is the probably the best redesign, the original one just looks like a normal NPC...
I liked how the Rocket execs parallel their Galactic counterparts
I think trying to make every Gym Leader dress like their type is super limiting. I love Jasmine's design, and Morty's original design wasn't bad in my opinion. Gym Leaders don't need to be in costume all the time, I like seeing them dress like normal people :)
The manga really gave the Team Rocket admins the representation they deserved.
Each had their own skills and personality.
Gen 2 Whitney has so much good concept art like the characters of Misty and May before/during their debut generations. Makes me wonder if she was designed for a larger role or possibly one of Ash's travel companions. Say what you will about her Miltank being insane but easily one of the most memorable gym leaders.

"With every remake comes a lot of character redesigns." *nervously laughs in BDSP*
Yeah I like the part where Fantina still looks like Fantina in the new game, truly the remaster of all time.
@@ammagon4519 BDSP is truly one of the games ever made..
Ngl, morty looks high asf in all games
Everyone in this game was just so attractive.
Despite how most people forget about his existence, Will has one of the best designs IMO and is one of my favorite psychic trainer designs with the mask. It's too bad he's so forgettable because he doesn't have much of a presence as the rest of the E4 nor had any prior history and just flat-out showed up without having as much of an impact as Koga and Bruno who were both a previous gym leader and an elite four member along with Karen with the iconic quote.
Not really fan of Will myself, but I do agree that his design is good, also a contrast to the usual psychic trainers at the time (i.e psychics and Sabrina).
Just like most gym leaders and elite 4 at the time, I think will is based off of the Juggler trainers, which are also trainers who have psychic Pokemon but don't really have psychic powers themselves, which speaking off. I don't think Will doesn't have psychic powers, but rather an illusionist, hence why in his sprite animation in HGSS, he makes a Pokeball appear out of nowhere.
So yeah idk why I made a long text for some random character that barely anyone cared about, but hey, at least he gets paired with Karen in fanarts most of the time...for some reason.
Absolutely love this video. Your voice is super calming and not over the top like how most Pokémon CZcamsrs are. keep up the good work.
It's so interesting seeing the contrast between the retro designs vs modern day ones. I didn't even notice how the human character artwork gradually got cuter and softer over the years. One thing i like is how trainers usually match their favorite pokemon or pokemon type now.
I feel like Mortys scarf resembles Mega Gengar more..
Great Video! I really like this new "series"!
Continue the great work!
I'd love to see a video on some of the best Sygna Suits in pokemas, the drip is so good
Morty in the original version looks like a Scandinavian guy with a receding hairline and is using a headband to cover it up
He was a skater boy... A feraligatr boy...
Casually holds 225 lbs over his shoulder like it’s nothing
Plus Morty has a more relaxed look to him showing his calmness in battle and intelligence in hard situations (on a side note if your not prepared for him good luck)

It says welcome to game freak for any non-unknown readers.
Hot take, but Ariana is my favorite Pokémon villain. I wish they would’ve made her relationship with Giovanni more part of the plot
I think Jasmine works perfectly as a surprise steel gym leader as her sweet cute soft appearance perfectly contrast the hard and cold steel type.
I really hope they make a Let's Go remake for Johto, or any kind of remake really, I never got a chance to play HeartGold or SoulSilver and would love a chance to see these characters and redesigns.
Morty's new design looks like that older kid in school who is always chill and treats you well, yet you know next to nothing about him.
I've always liked the dramatic fashion sense of Lance and Claire
I've always thought that Claire's design is a resemblance of the average fantasy JRPG female character look, so Claire having dragons just fit well.
man I miss the way they used to draw the eyes. its so distinctively ken sugimori style. It has such a good vibe. Bugsy's re-design his eyes scare me. like it looks straight into your soul
I like the Ken sugimori art style.
