Is the book by Brian O'Leary really still relevant? It was published in 2005. On the topic of books, there's also another one by Kathleen Comerford titled ''Pass Your Driving Test in Ireland'' published much more recently in 2018. Any experience with that one?
Brian O Learys book has had many updates and revisions since it was first published so it's very much up to date. Never heard of the other book.

Hi Dane, thank you for your videos, they have helped me pass my test a few months ago, and I have been driving since the beginning of the year. You are always very thorough and tell us a lot of information which helps to picture a real life situation.
Since passing my test I had one challenging situation, which was quite embarrassing at the time haha! I just wanted to share it with people in case any new drivers will be facing it in the future.
We have planned a trip to a nice town in country side about 7 miles away from us, we have never been there, so I just followed my sat nav. But I had absolutely no idea about the narrow and oh so steep roads I will have to be driving on! Really probably the steepest hill I ever went on in a car!! I was attempting to go up in a 3 gear, when I realised my car just would not cope with it, therefore I tried to go down a gear and stalled, then completely panicked haha, and kept stalling... the car just did not want to go up that hill, to be fair I was happy enough we didn’t start rolling down lol! So two other cars had to go around me... I eventually managed to get going and I feel like I have learned a lot from that situation.
I think it would be very helpful and actually interesting to see if you made a video on country side roads.

Can you recommend someone? is the cost paid to drive school or to Instructor also includes the fuel and car renting price for 12 EDT?

You can say to the tester that you would clean it with a cloth or tissue but there is no need to actually perform the task of cleaning the dipstick, all you need to do is to explain it to the driving tester
The Fog Lights are the important thing to know? How to work and use them when there is Fog or Snow?

Hello Dane, thanks for explaining. Would you be able to help how can I find rear fog light in Suzuki Swift 2007. I am not able to find option on light lever and i also do not see it fitted in my car. 🤔
You should be able to twist the light control about an inch in from the edge.

What about the power steering fluid check!
Yes be aware of that if your car has it. However most modern cars these days are electric power steering so they wouldn't have the fluid.
On my first test, with the open bonnet, the tester asked me how I know when the car is cold or hot and I didn't know the answer.
Well if you haven't driven in a while it'll be cold and you could put your hand closer to the oil to see if any heat is felt.

Dane, I was chatting to my instructor today while taking my lesson and we are onto the point now about the test etc. He brought up that someone he taught how to drive had their test last week and he failed. According to my instructor he passed everything apart from driving through manholes which make the car rock side to side. Now I know you need to avoid all obstructions you may encounter but some are just impossible. Passing everything else and failing because of a bit of a broke road?. Seems odd. Worrys me now IF I fail my theory and technical I won't have a chance.. do you think he should appeal it?
He should absolutely NOT appeal it because he'd be wasting his time, he'd be better off learning from the experience and putting all his concentration into fixing this issue. To be honest I'd probably fail him too for constantly going into manholes/drains, that kind of thing drives me soft, sounds like the tester was spot on. It's grand if you accidentally go into one or two but really a driver should be able to spot the hole and make a little adjustment with the wheel to avoid it, it's not as if these manholes are 5 metres wide.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I agree with you to a very large extent don't get me wrong. However some you just can't avoid when the position is obnoxious you'd be putting other road users at jeopardy surely?. Like I'll be 100% honest. When he told me this story it intimidated me a little as like I said above IF I fail all my technical and theory I want to be able to make it up on my driving. Which I hope is still possible. I don't plan on getting all my theory and technical wrong however stress just takes me over in 1 on 1 situation like that. So I hope I can still manage a pass with my driving alone if my nerves/anxiety takes over. Just going to be watching a lot of your videos whenever my test approaches for refreshers/tips anyway as they've helped me a ton. Thanks!
I know what you mean, it's impossible to miss every hole and it does depend on the individual circumstances on the road. In my experience most testers are fair and will give a balanced judgement taking into consideration your nerves. Best of luck with the driving test.

Quick one Dane, I've my test next week; forecast is for heavy rain :(. My wipers are in perfect working order but squeak a lot even after they were replaced and got through the NCT. Could this be a problem on the test?
It's not ideal but it should not be a problem for the test. The NCT is literally the most basic car test you can imagine do please don't assume that it is a thorough and detailed car test.
