When was the first time you saw this movie? Tell us about it
On a date. IDK who's idea that was but I ended up weeping and she said 'I bet you cry at loo roll adverts'. Still tickled by that. 😂
I can't remember when I saw it, but I was probably about 8 or 9. It was on TV and I was dead scared of ET. Then someone just HAD to give me a life-size ET doll. Scarred for life!
Of course I find him funny and cute now. 😂
I saw this movie when I was about 6 or 7 years old in theatres at the time of it’s release together with my parents. (Jeezz I feel old now lol ;) . At the end I literally cried, and my mother asked me: “Why are you crying?” I answered: “ Because I’m sad the movie is over”. Crazy that this happened so long ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday. This is such a wonderful movie, and it never gets old. Looking forward to your reaction on this one! :) Ps just noticed this: you have reached 100K subs: congrats! Awesome! :)
Yooo I am hyped, i had asked you guys to react to this like a week ago in your halloween movie post, thanks for checkin it out. Not sure if it was just coincidence or not, but this is such a classic halloween movie, my grandma had shown it to me when I was a little kid, I was so scared of E.T. that I hid the E.T. plush doll she gave me in the kitchen cupboard hahaha
@@thesmokypurr I know how you felt. I was also terrified of him! 😂
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are best friends. They actually each have different properties of each other in their movies. For instance, you can see C-3PO and R2-D2 in one of the Raiders movies. In fact, ET’s species is actually in episode one of Star Wars. So the species is actually from the Star Wars universe. Which makes sense now why he said home when he saw Yoda. Because he would recognize the species. Kind of interesting. It’s what happens when you have two friends that mix each other’s properties for fun.
E. T. is a Jedi.
It was also a surprise for Lucas, as he didn't know "Yoda" was going to be in "Steven's Film" and apparently when he saw ET during the screening at ILM, he loved it and put E.T. into the Senate while making PHANTOM MENACE (Spielberg and Lucas' friendship was solidified for life when Lucas gave a screening of STAR WARS for his filmmaker friends and NO ONE liked it, apart from Spielberg who immediately knew STAR WARS was going to be a game-changer for film)
Elliott feeling abandoned by his dad and then crying as he tries to convince ET to stay and grow up with him... Just all hits so different now I'm older and wiser 😭
One thing I really is like how the man with the keys is almost always shot from a low angle, whether as a faceless villain or a benevolent authority, we are seeing him from a child's perspective; it embodies both the threat and the comfort in such a fundamental way.
This was actually filmed in the same neighborhood and at the same time as Poltergeist. The kids from both movies hung out together on their breaks. Drew Barrymore actually auditioned for the role of Carol Anne and Steven Spielberg thought she’d be better for Gertie.
It's in California right? I don't remember the specific name.
Santa Clarita California. I live 5 miles from it
Poltergeist was filmed in Simi Valley, California
Part of Porter Ranch was also used from filming, my aunt and my cousins lived there for a while in the 80's.
I’m glad ET went home at the end. Just because a being ends up on earth, in the US doesn’t mean they feel compelled to stay here. Some aliens, immigrants actually prefer their home even if they end up coming here.
I remember watching this movie when I was a small child, and I'm 44 now. There wasn't a dry eye in the theater when ET was dying. This movie showed us that there is hope in love and kindness.
I like how there's no real bad guys in this film. The kids act like kids, and the government does pretty much just their job - to study this most important find in human history, not to treat it with hostility or anything just scientific caution.
Dudes! Kids rode bikes in the 1980’s. We played outside all the time. I was ten when E.T. came to theaters. I saw it three times. It was the first movie that made me cry and cheer.
“Wow there were a lot of bikes…I guess that’s what kids did”
Bicycles meant freedom.
There was no real bad guy/ thing.
I haven’t watched this one in years. Such a fun, carefree movie.
Kawahara et bikes fetch a ton of money now .
Fun Fact: Spielberg used real doctors to operate on ET, to make it seem realistic. Gertie's tears in that scene were real, she really hated seeing ET hooked up to all of those machines like that. 😿💖
That’s really clever
@@whitenoisereacts They also had the puppeteers continue operating E.T between takes to keep Drew entertained and to not break her immersion.
They effectively had her believe the puppet was alive and real. When he flatlines she genuinely thought the creature died. Hence her emotion.
@@whitenoisereacts #voiceactress
Isnt the little girl the voice actress for the evil Townswoman in #Klaus that animated Christmas Movie???
@@foodislife479 Drew Barrymore is the actress ✨
As animators "Who framed Roger Rabbit" is a must.
Live action + hand animation blending perfectly + Disney and Warner characters together.
A piece of art
Fun fact: Originally they wanted to use M&M's but Mars was not interested when they approached them. So they went to Hershey who agreed to product placement for their relatively new Reeses Pieces line which blew up massively in popularity due its appearance in the film. I am sure Mars was sorry they said no.
Wanted to add a second fun fact. The Neil Diamond song Heartlight (great song btw) which came out in September 1982s shortly after E.T.'s release appeared heavily inspired by the film to the point where Diamonds record company settled out of court with Universal awarding Universal $25,000. The lyrics seem to clearly reference the film. The repeated line "Turn on your heartlight" along with the section of the lyrics in the song that refers to a young boy flying across the moon does not seem coincidental. Here is that section.
"Turn on your heartlight
In the middle of a young boy's dream
Don't wake me up too soon
Gonna take a ride across the moon
You and me"
Fun Fact: E.T. is Canon in the star wars universe! In one of the prequels during a senate meeting of all the different planets, you can very faintly see off in the corner, one of the booths is full of little E.T.'s!😊
Which explains why he recognized Yoda. He has seen that race of being before. Which technically makes earth cannon in Star Wars. Despite it taking place a long time ago. In a galaxy far far away. Lol. Neat Easter eggs.
I was little when I first watched this movie. The moment in the beginning, when the government agents drive up in their cars, accompanied by the menacing music really scared me. I felt so bad for Gertie when she was watching the doctors shock E.T. with the defibrillator paddles. Her reaction was very genuine.
bookwoman Drew Barrymore? She was probably high! Kidding, I know she waited a few more years before she started hard drugs.
You've watched so many different versions of *Peter Pan* lately that I think I should point out that in the scene of E.T.'s apparent death and revival, Spielberg seems explicity to have attempted to create something similar to the scene where Tinker Bell almost dies and is revived (in most versions) by childrens' belief in fairies, which is shown by their clapping. To underline the point, earlier in the movie, he actually shows us a scene of the Mom reading this passage to Gertie from the book, *Peter and Wendy,* and shows Gertie clapping her hands to revive the fairy, with her mom's encouragement. Since it's a movie, he can't have Elliott turn to the audience and beg for applause, so he does the next best thing: right before E.T. revives, he has Elliott say, "I'll believe in you all my life," and then adds, "E.T., I love you" (which is almost exactly what Disney's Peter says to Tink), and as with Tinker Bell, we know he's come back when his light comes back on.
You blew mind mind just now
I always thought this… thank you for verifying this theory I’ve had for the last 40 years…lol
"I'll be right here." That scene always makes me cry, it's so heartbreaking. Henry Thomas was a phenomenal child actor, there's even audition footage for this movie circulating around CZcams, proving how gifted he really is.
Me too.
Yeah he's still really good, he has a very natural, soft spoken way about him I think
I'm not crying - you're crying! Still tear up after all these years 💜
I remember the discussion about this but Henry Thomas's reaction May have just been a rumor. I hope not because it was the perfect response.
Somebody asked him about a decade ago if he wanted to be in a sequel with ET coming back when Elliott is an adult.
The rumor I heard is that Henry's response was "that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard."
And I agree there are probably other movies, but off the top of my head I can't think of any movie that would be more ruined by an attempt at a sequel then ET would be. This movie is about as close to perfect as you can get.
My ugly cry scene was when Drew was reacting to E.T. crashing on that gurney. To later find out that literally NO ONE TOLD HER THAT THAT WAS A PUPPET!! She was lead to believe that E.T. was a REAL ALIEN. To this day Drew is still affected by that.
I was 10 when the film came out, and also read the book as well. In the book, ET knew he had a connection with Elliot, so he purposefully shut his system down to save Elliot, who was also very close to dying. He was also afraid of Keys, thinking the keys the man had were teeth taken from other aliens.
Rewatching this as an adult made me realize E.T. is a child too like Elliott
I think this is one of the best depictions of children and how they interact within a family, especially one going through a divorce. That scene with Elliot talking about their dad going to Mexico with his girlfriend (who was more than likely the reason for the divorce), and Mike being protective of their mom, was so utterly believable. My parents split up when my brother was Mike’s age and he was just the same.
Yeah that does feel very real
Agreed, even though the divorce is mostly in the background, you still get a sense of how Mary and the kids are all affected by it. I also liked the scene where Elliott and Michael are discussing their father taking them to baseball games in the past.
I was OBSSESSED when this movie came out. For several weekends in a row my friends and I would go see it on Saturday, and jump the line and go back in and watch it twice every time.
When I saw this in the theater in 1982, when ET comes back to life, the whole theater was crying first, then cheering and clapping.
I had an ET alarm clock back in the day. When the alarm went off his neck extended & his fingertip blinked.
I also remember seeing this in the theater with my mother. When they tented the house she said, "That's just what those assholes would do!" ✌️
To this day I still love that "I'll be right here" came back in a circle starting from Elliott saying it to ET and ending with ET saying it to Elliott (◍•ᴗ•◍) a true masterpiece 💞
Much has been said already about this masterpiece. It never gets old. What stands out for me is the realistic family dynamic, all great characters. And these child actors are just insanely good, it's rare!
That "same vibe" you mentioned was just what it was like then and my favorite thing about the movie. The movie was doubly nostalgic because it is also reminiscent of the movie existing in that time. It is an excellent slice of life at the time, with the toys and other items in the house, the talk of arcade games and whatnot. You could lose yourself in a game or a magazine, or even TV shows and without the distractions of the internet connecting you to the rest of the world.
The Star Wars stuff is there because every kid at that time had Star Wars toys. It was really the one movie-related action figure line and toy franchise. A year later there would have been Masters of the Universe and maybe G.I.Joe toys along with it.
You guys might recognize Elliott's actor, Henry Thomas, from his more recent role as the father (younger version) from The Haunting Of Hill House.
I'm actually surprised they didn't make a sequel, an unusually restrained thing for such a hit. It ended perfectly and I'm glad they didn't.
They tried to do a knock off called Mac and Me (McDonald's tie in if you can believe it).
I heard Spielberg himself said he wouldn’t ever make a sequel to E.T because it’s one of his most personal movies. I kind of agree though I think they ended it on a great note. (: There is a mini sequel commercial though and it was quite touching! Look up E.T commercial infinity or something along those lines.
They did a commercial a couple years ago with Henry Thomas as an adult with a family and ET coming for a visit. It was pretty cool and nostalgic.
There’s a sequel book titled “The Green Planet”, but it’s most likely non-canon.
@@juliell2139 it was a fun movie when i was a kid. Windmills...
They did a commercial a couple years ago with Henry Thomas as an adult with a family and ET coming for a visit. It was pretty cool and nostalgic.
Do you remember what product it was for? I would LOVE to look that up
@@Skye_Writer I think it was a cable company. Xfinity maybe? It's probably on CZcams.
@@Skye_Writer xfinity on youtube. It made my 90’s kid corner of my heart so happy, so adorable.
This is, in my opinion, John Williams finest creation and that's some body of work to pick from ! The whole suite from the beginning of the final escape and chase leading to that final rainbow stanza is PERFECT. It never, ever fails to reduce this 50+ year old guy to tears. Wonderful work from the Maestro of Maestros and he knew it because it was one of the rare occasions where Williams actually asked Spielberg to hear what he had composed without the footage. Why ? Because he couldn't match the visuals with the score as per usual but he knew he had something special. Spielberg agreed and once he'd heard it he took the movie back and re-edited the final scene to match the score. Henry Thomas nailed his performance. Do you know the story about his audition ? He wasn't the first choice, another kid was chosen and but whilst he could act, after losing a game of Dungeons & Dragons being played on set during further casting he showed his real colours when he lost. He kicked off and became a real asshole of a kid and the casting director realised the real person behind the act wasn't the sweet innocent 9 year old they wanted and nobody liked him so they axed him. Word reached them about a young boy from Texas called Henry who seemed to be the real deal, a great kid who could also act. Due to time restraints after the first error of judgement with their initial choice for Eliot, Spielberg had him flown out to audition in front of him in person along with the Producers. He was given a general premise and asked to improvise - and it was filmed. You can view it here: czcams.com/video/tA5giyG8E7g/video.html Famously, at the end, with hardened Hollywood producers in tears, you can hear Spielberg tell him: "Ok Kid, you got the job..."
The second time I saw *E.T.,* I saw it with a group that included a talented musician and arranger. After it was over, he had nothing to say about the plot, the story, the acting, the special effects, or the directing, but talked endlessly about the excellence of the music, which until then I had hardly noticed as a thing separate from all the other movie-making elements.
I highly recommend that you guys watch and react to this 1986 gem FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR. You will be blown away by the practical and CGI effects being this movie was made in the mid 80s.
Yes!!! That's a good one!
that spaceship was the coolest thing i ever seen as a kid and still looks great today, in fact the earlyness of the cgi makes it look a bit more alien and fantastical
Curious fact... John Williams, being the genius that he is, is a very humble man in terms of his work, and in those days it was customary to compose music by adjusting the music bars to the film, frame by frame. but in the last reel of film (16 min. approx.). John Williams tried to adjust the orchestra during the recording sesion simutaniusly to the projection of the film, but after several attempts, it was impossible, and Steven Spielberg recognizing John's genius told him, "forget about the projection, shut it down , and just conduct the orchestra with your heart, I will later edit the film to fit your music". Ladies and gentlemen, you don't see that every day, a movie genius honoring another genius.and those last 16 minutes of flim were not just the must exciting ones of the movie, but the must endearing, and bouth movie and music score earned to maestro John Williams and E.T: The academy award, I love John Williams. (E.T. academy awards: sound, sound editing, visual effects, original score). they coud have recieved more awards but something big happened that year... 'GAHNDI'). Nevertheless, Mr. Williams I salute you, you are a genius and enormous talent composer . may God give you more years to live and recieve all the honors you deserve.
E.T. was the movie that really got me into being a fan of John Williams' music. I bought the sound track to E.T. because the music in the movie touched me and was such a fantastic score. And yes, those final minutes of the movie wouldn't have been the same without that grand score that John Williams' created... excellent!
My dad, a lovely man but never one to show much emotion, cried when he saw this when it 1st came out. My mom will mention it to anyone whenever she gets the chance.
There’s a similar story in my family about my late Papaw-before he was a grandfather he wasn’t known to show strong emotion, but E.T. affected him enough to make him cry!
I remember my dad always telling me how terrifaid he was by ET at the beginning of the movie at the theater but loving and wanting to meet one at the end lol and my mom having ptsd because she used to live in a house with a field like that in the back and never wanting to get near it ever again xD
This was filmed in Simi-Valley, CA, where Spielberg and Tobe Hooper also shot Poltergeist. I also shot (less notably, of course) a film school project here in my aunt and uncle's house. They lived in one of these homes in a cul de sac right near those hills, not unlike Elliott's. Spielberg liked it cuz it screamed sprawling suburban expansion.
Yeah that’s what I thought!!!
Technically, ET was filmed in "San Fernando Valley" not Simi Valley, although adjacent to each other. The home where Elliott's family is in Tujunga. I've been to the home and it's still there. I know Poltergeist was filmed in Simi but I don't have that bravery to go to the home where it was filmed cause Poltergeist the movie; pretty scary movie lol. Los Angeles is one big movie studio...
The neighborhood bike chase scenes were indeed filmed in The Valley. The film crews actually set up on the lawn of friends of mine to film it. They were told at the time by the crew that the movie was called "A Boy's Life" (the original title). Easter egg in Gremlins...A Boy's Life is the movie playing in town at the theater.
I didn't see it in the comments, but you have to check out the actor that played Elliott's audition tape for this movie! He did it with another person reading from the script while Steven Spielberg was in the room. It was so good that he gave him the part on the spot. Henry Thomas ET Audition is what you need to look up on here.
The moments where the mom is so busy or in her zone that she doesn’t even notice the majority of odd things happening around her is very relatable 😂
Mom took me to see this when it came out in 1982. I was 3. Cried so hard when ET and Elliot were sick in those tents that she had to take me home. Didn’t get to see how it ended until 3 or 4 years later. First movie I saw all the way through in theaters was “Gremlins” when I was 5. Reese’s Pieces made a lot of money off this film, btw.
The bike in front of the moon was the logo for Amblin Entertainment for many years until they disbanded in 1997.
Amblin ent is still around
A Spielberg cinematic masterpiece. No fault found on any reel! Classic and one of the inspirations for Stranger Things!!! 11=ET
The doctors shocking ET and seeing the sisters reaction always made me breakdown, it felt so real 😫 😭
I was SO young when I saw this in the cinema. I was scared, I was fascinated, it made me laugh, and it made me sob my eyes out.
The candy was Reses pieces. Very popular when this movie came out
I had the privilege of watching it in the cinema as a 9 year old, with my dad and 2 younger sisters in 1982. Then for my 10th birthday I got my yellow BMX bike! I was the first girl in my area to possess one. I loved that bike.
Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture but won for
Best Sound Editing
Best Film Editing
Best Visual Effects
Best Original Score.
It made $790 million dollars against a $20 million dollar budget.
They were going to do a sequel in 2020, but then Covid happened... They did make a short, to get people excited about the sequel. It's only 4 minutes and 54 seconds, but I think it's worth watching. The short is called "E.T. A Holiday Reunion".
I grew up watching this and recently saw it’s 40th anniversary IMAX rerelease a couple months ago. It’s great to see this film getting more love.
Steven Spielberg originally worked on a film based on his own childhood about the divorce of his parents which eventually became "E.T." Over 40 years later he finally made his story into "The Fablemans." It's no secret that Spielberg is ultimately optimistic about humanity and E.T. is the one film that best crystalizes that part of his personality. It's a great film about kindness. The family behave like a real family, too, which you don't see in hollywood movies.
If you go back and watch either The Phantom Menance or Attack of the Clones, I can't remember which, you can actually see some of ET's species in the Galactic Senate. Which canonically makes ET apart of Star Wars. Just like you said, Spielberg and Lucas were good friends so ET appeared in star wars as a nod to ET, where Yoda appeared. Which also means when ET saw the kid dressed as Yoda he knew who that was haha
You guys must try the ET ride at Universal studios Orlando! You get to sit on a bike and ET is in your basket! It's the sequel to the movie designed by the director himself! He had to make the ride the sequel because he knew he wouldn't get to make another movie for ET! It's such a great ride with practical effects and its just so magical!
I also played D&D as a kid, so this movie was "our" first time bein represented in a movie. AND I would totally DM for you guys!
The first time I cried in the cinema!
Same!
First movie I ever saw in the cinema, except I was 4 so I feel asleep half way through. Haha
Yes, Spielberg probably just got Lucas to approve the use of Star Wars property for the film (and also for Poltergeist). But more than that, it was a good depiction of how *huge* Star Wars was back then. People had the toys and wore the costumes. It was everywhere. As a kid watching this movie in the theaters I never even batted an eye that this merch would show up. That’s how it was.
When ET came out my husband and I went and saw it in the theaters at least 4 times! It then became my daughter’s go to movie when she was bored!
This is exactly how kids were in the late 70’s-80’s .kids were super independent and always on bikes with friends from the neighborhood and came in when the street lights went out.
I was a kid growing up in the 80's.. AND YES... All we did was ride bikes and go on adventures (Well.. what we thought were adventures at that age) lol.. In the 80's.. you stayed out until the street lights came on.. that was the signal it was time to come home! Ah.. such a fun time to grow up!!!!
If you guys appreciate Drew Barrymore's performance coupled with questionable government activities, you have to check out "Firestarter ".
Another movie she was in that was interesting was Irreconcilable Differences. It's worth a watch if you can find it.
I loved this when I first watched it, I don't remember when I first saw it but what always gets me is "I'll be right here." I have a tear in my eye now. I am so happy I can see Henry Thomas both in Hill House and Bly Manor :')
Another wonderful reaction. Thanks so much! A bit of ET trivia: They wanted to use M&M's and went to Mars Candy, but the Mars exec thought ET would frighten kids and refused to do a movie tie-in. They used Reese's Pieces instead, and when ET became the highest-grossing movie history, the Mars exec was fired.
I always loved the scene where he saves the frogs and Elliot gets a kiss🙌🏽🐸 Perfect pacing and keeps my full attention whenever I watch it. The talk of E.T collecting plant life reminds me of the E.t game on PS1 that no one talks about 😂
Saw this at the Mann Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Everyone cried like a baby when E.T. died. The neighborhood is in Simi Valley, CA.
This movie makes you feel so many different emotions! I still cry at the end. Every time.
It's very cute and adorable how E.t and Elliott have a great friendship in this movie.
Did you know that Henry Thomas, the boy who played Elliot, played Jack Torrance in 'Doctor Sleep'?
Rewatching this movie again with you guys, it’s really striking how much Stranger Things took from this movie for Season 1. There are so many scenes and moments that are basically identical between the two.
E.T., The Goonies and Stand by Me are the three major influence of Stranger Things. These were the movies I grew up with and it's clear that the show creators were of my generation.
I grew up in the '80s and I rode my bike almost every day. That's what we did then, we played outside all the time.
A running theory that was indeed confirmed by both Spielberg and George Lucas is that E.T. is a Jedi from Star Wars. If you can zoom in on a Republic scene in Episode 1 the phantom menace, you can see a deligation of E.T.'s in the room. And when you see E.T. reacts to a kid in a yoda costume he says home. It was the connector to the two movies. Plus Spielberg was the co-creator of Star Wars.
ETA 1, The dark bearded Doctor I was told was indeed Lucas
ETA 2, I was just 3 years old when this movie was in theaters in 1982. So this was a major part of my childhood. Man!!!! I feel ancient!!! Just realized that this came out 40 years ago!!!.
This movie I think is Steven Spielberg’s best film (at least for me personally that is). It made an incredible impact on me when I was a kid, and for a film to be able to impress a young mind like that, it must be something pretty special right? ;) It’s also a movie that I would say is a true 80’s masterpiece, and having grown up in the 80’s I just love it. It hasn’t aged, it’s just timeless. Which is why I think you guys would love Stranger Things: it’s pretty much a love letter to all things 80’s, so if you haven’t already, be sure to check that out ;) Anyways: as usual your reaction was very enjoyable to watch, loved the enthusiasm you guys always bring to your videos. Once again: congrats on the 100K and keep doing what you are doing!
Speilberg used the "Elliot and ET bicycling across the Moon" shot as his studio logo for a long time.
Yup and that production company is Amblin Entertainment
FYI: ETs species exists in the same universe as star wars. They are shown at the counsel in the Starwars prequels. Thus why he noticed the yoda costume for Halloween.
I saw this at theater in 82. This movie was not released on vhs or DVD. For at least 20 years. You don't understand how big this movie was.
ET and Elliot flying in front of the Moon on the bike is the Amblin (Spielberg's production company) logo.
You have seen it a trillion times.
I agree about the brother. I didn't expect him to play a large role but by the time it was all said and done he was my favorite character. The ending of this always makes me cry and I usually start right about the time Mike touches ET and says goodbye And then ET says thank you.....😢
His Yoda impression is one of the highlights of the film. lol
Perhaps the saddest moment in the entire film is when Michael wakes up and sees the flowers dying.
I was 12, I actually thought it was good enough I saw it twice in the theater. I had read the novel before. Fun fact: the novel listed M&M’s instead of Reese’s pieces. And the ship design was described as Christmas ornament shaped.
If memory serves, they asked M&M's to sponsor the film so they could use the candy in those ET scenes, but I think M&M's said no? So Reese's Pieces did it, and they became HUGE because of it. (Not that M&M's aren't plenty recognizable, lol, but still... they could have been ET's candy!)
The ET species can be seen in Star Wars (The Phantom Menace during the Senate scene), so that is why ET recognizes "Yoda".
All of Spielberg's production company has the Moon and bicycle is trademark of AMBILIN PICTURES.
E.T.'s Special healing abilities is love.
George and Steven are very close friends. John Williams did the music for most of George's and Steven's movies too.
In Star wars episode 1 in the Senate scene there is the race of ETS. They are canonically in the same universe.
Yes, kids did have a lot more free reign back then.
Plus, without internet, streaming, etc. there wasn't much motivation to stay inside anyway.
I have never laughed harder than hearing nine tail say his only knowledge of ET was Katy Perry’s song. That took me so off guard and I loved it 😂
You guys should check out the Henry Thomas(Elliot) audition footage. It's not a long video, but he was clearly gifted, and it can be seen in the video.
A couple other movies that have a similar vibe to this that you should totally check out (dont have to react to them, but defo watch them) - Flight of the Navigator (1986); and Explorers (1985) starring River Phoenix from Stand By Me, and Ethan Hawke
This is one of only three movies I've ever cried my eyes out to while watching it as a kid. The other two if from my native Denmark, and I've rarely met anyone who hasn't cried while watching it. Masterpiece.
Even long before I ever saw the movie, I had this E.T. figure toy, that if you put a battery in it and pushed a button, the tip of its finger would glow like it did in the movie.
You might want to check out "D.A.R.Y.L." from 1985.
Also "Enemy Mine" from 1985, as well.
Both are faves.
Yes and yes. If you've already seen The Neverending Story you'll recognize Daryl.
Spielberg and Lucas are pretty much best friends. They reference each other a lot.
100K guys!!!! Congratulations
You need to watch the 2019 ET commercial. It gets you in the feels.
You mentioned if Spielberg ask Star Wars about cameo the Yoda character. In Star Wars 3 I believe there was three ET characters jumping up and down when the Chancellor claimed himself as Emperor. It was short and very quickly but they were there. You noticed that when he saw Yoda he said home.
This movie is so dear to me and my mother. Goes all the way back to when I was 4 and I remember going on the ride at Universal Studios Florida😍
Fun facts:
Harrison Ford had a cameo as Elliot’s school principal but it was deleted.
Steven Spielberg is (Gertie) Drew Barrymore’s godfather.
The actress who voiced E.T. Also voiced Princess Leia when she she was disguised at the beginning of Return of the Jedi.
E.T.’s race had a cameo in one of the Senate scenes of Attack of the Clones.
This is the first movie I ever saw in the theater. I was five and it had a profound effect on me.
Guys you HAVE to watch Encounters of the Third Kind, from steven Spielberg, u guys gonna flip with that one!! One of the best scenes involving alien contact/ufo sighting etc
Congratulations on 100K subscribers! 🎊 I remember when you guys were at 12K.
Dang man!!! Thanks for all the love and support!!!
People forget about this movie after Jurassic Park and Titanic came out, but this was totally a big deal back in the day.
30:48 - You've probably seen this image as the logo for Amblin Entertainment, Spielberg's original production company.
Yeah!!
Spielberg and Lucas are friends from film school. Indiana Jones is them working together. They’re nearly the best of friends.
E.T. got me through my tonsillectomy at 13 and instilled my lifelong alien obsession. ♥
Great reaction guys.
Spielberg had 7 children. He knows what kids think and do and uses it beautifully in this movie in particular.
A director with seven children ... what's so fearsome about that?
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. The story, performance's, music, images, direction, and cinematography was spectacular and phenomenal. It also gives a insightful and articulate representation of emotional resonance, love, faith, hope, humanity, social acceptance, loss, and friendship. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎💯👍
13:30 Love the Star Wars references! I think E.T's species were seen in Star Wars: The Phatom Mence. However, it was just an Easter egg for this movie
"He wants to call his homies" LMAO
