I would say over 75% of all our clothes, household and kitchen items, decorations for our home, furniture, yard and household tools, appliances even my dog bowls, collars, leashes, came from years of shopping at thrift stores! I am proud of my living cheap! We only buy used cars. We are debt free!

Food is very expensive,as are taxes depending on which province you live in. I can’t imagine what some of you folks must pay in the states. Nice to hear of the ways you deal with it. It is certainly very wise to live under one's means to save for future needs. Unfortunately, many today do not do so and when they reach retirement age, they feel it. I'm really glad you brought out these points for us all to ponder on. I choose living frugally as well and I can say that I do not feel that I am missing out on anything at all. Great video! As a young adult I am so appreciative of adults and people in general who are open about how they have accomplished something financially because it give me an idea about how I could do the same. Or inspire other ways to potentially do it more frugally, learn from others mistakes, etc. Money is part of each of our lives and for the most part I don’t see the need for it to be a secret. Most people would benefit from financial advice or a different financial perspective.

Tessie, you are kind and have such peace talking about your budget and your family. The Lord has called you to this channel as your ministry. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
My grandmother once told the story about using her tithe money to buy chickens for eggs. She said it was only $2.00 back then, she was born in 1914, but she woke up the next day to find all of her chickens dead. She said the Lord was teaching her a lesson. She always tithed after that and as long as I can remember. I miss her so much. We lost her to a brain hemorrhage in 1996. I think of her everyday.
Blessings to you and your family.💗🙂

Thanks so much for sharing so much helpful information with us, Tessie. There are so many folks these days who are dealing with the exact same challenges that your family is taking on right now. And -- even though it's not really fair -- it's currently "the thing to do" to try to blame and shame people who don't conform exactly to an unwritten set of rules about how we're all "supposed" to live our lives. Especially when it comes to money!
That leads some people to ask really inappropriate questions. Questions they would not be likely to ask if they were face to face with you in your (or their) own home. Most of us were taught when we were growing up that there are some questions you just *don't* ask. Such as: "How much money do you make? How old are you (to anyone who is not a child)? How much do you weigh? Do you tithe? How much money did you inherit?" Etc., etc., etc....
So I just have to say again that you are an amazingly patient person. You never give back rudeness for rudeness. And it's amazing how you can help to take the stigma out of -- say battling anxiety or solving financial problems creatively -- by talking openly about things. That's brave!
To people whose parents didn't teach them about boundaries and courtesy, and who feel obliged to offer unsolicited advice, disguised as "constructive criticism," and to ask questions that are inconsiderate, all I can say is: You can learn a lot from Tessie -- not only about frugality and household management -- but more importantly about *kindness.*

Blame the insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies. Also, Americans have been socialized into thinking that Medicare for All will mean that they can't run to their favorite doctor for every little thing and they won't be able to demand care when THEY want it! So, this is why we have the system we have, but other countries have a more equitable system!

We have been diligent & have not missed a payment. God has been our guide. Many do not realize what it feels like not to go our to eat, buy clothes, travel ect. With the world conditions of our world, I am so blessed to know we will not longer have that heavy load!!! I would love to save for a home. we rent & it is so expensive. Yet, home owning is expensive. Taking one day at a time! Love & Blessings from Florida.

Our stimulus went to necessities too. We had to buy a new washer & dryer when our washer broke. They were 34 years old. We recently had to have the trees cut down. Both of us also had to have work done on our older cars. The only thing we splurged on was a 300 watt solar generator so we could have a fan and lights when a hurricane takes the power out. We're both very frugal, didn't used to be, but don't miss living the high life. Living frugal is a way to challenge yourself to see if you can do it. You'll be proud of yourself. 👍😄 Blessings. 💜✝

It's a vicious cycle with these medical bills, I've paid thousands of dollors into medical insurance, taxes and such , as my job does not provided medical insurance. I'm employed full time, so I still pay taxes to the IRS every single year. As an American. I felt, why not apply for help. Thank you Tessie for sharing. I think your budget was very wise. During those time that you said your husband worked 90 hours and you were choosing to live poor. Well your needs were met and truly that is all that needs to be met is needs not wants. I think in our world many times we think wants are needs. I think it is awesome that you have such self control when it comes to be so frugile. It is not easy. I have always been a thrift shopper. I am not saying I never buy new but I have always thrift shopped. I find bargins on grocery. I will shop day old food places. I will shop mark down foods too. I am like you I am willing to take things for free. I enjoy hand me downs of clothes and things. Watching videos inspires me to be more of a penny pincher. I look at your home and land and it is a very nice place and it goes to show we do not have to have a huge home or New home. We can take any place and fix it up and make it home. We have lived in some older places that needed some work and we made them look really cute and they were home. we know that our real home is in Heaven but while we are here on earth does not mean we can not enjoy what God has given us but this is not all there is. So we should not love material things. You enjoy your things like I do but I we both remember our real hope is not in stuff but Jesus. This was a great video Tessie. Thanks for sharing. This biggest life lesson is learning to live responsibly with money. I know where everything goes and I know my bills are paid. Saving money has been difficult for me as always, but i intend to learn no matter what! I was never able to grasp the concept of saving money for retirement, so it is what it is.I believe this subject needs to be taught in the home as well as in the school system. Thankyou Tessie as always for sharing your life with us! Maia

Your budget may seem extreme to some, but to me it makes perfect sense. What you said about money was so wise: it canNOT buy happiness, but it can ease unhappiness (in a perfect world nobody would go hungry, be cold without a place to call home, or even, for that matter, to feel unloved.) Everyone should have those essentials, and if we have some means to help others attain these things, it's our human obligation. After all that, the truest riches in life are found in the glories of nature, and the warmth of simple daily human connection. You know this Tessie, & I love you for it.
