- I took a road trip to Hiroshima (plus Okayama, Fukuyama) and saw the iconic mid rotary-engined RX-500 concept car that was first made public at the 17th Tokyo Motor Show in 1970. It is a sports car of beautiful lines and proportions, and features a powerful 10a rotary engine. Unusually, the doors open in a forward flipping motion, which are known as butterfly doors. Also in this video, a curious series 1 Cosmo (L10A) which raced at the 84 Hours of Nürburgring in 1968 (oh, but it's a replica.)
Beyond that, this video shows clips from the many places I visited in Japan's Chugoku region this last week. And, expect many more car spotting adventures to follow.

Always loved a Cosmo
I liked the video. But just for the record, the Mazda 787B that used the wheels shown at the beginning, actually used them to be the first japanese car to ever win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the only “some rotary racer” to achieve that. Behind it were three “Silk-cut Jaguar” and one “Sauber Mercedes” driven (among others) by a guy called Michael Schumacher. Two other 787’s finished in 6th and 8th.
Cool cosmo and thanks for giving us a closer view of the RX-500. Man those tail lights.. super interesting.
Hey man. Hope you, your fam, your Diana are all well
What a crazy collection!!! I can't believe you saw one of my dream cars. I'm glad you've been doing well Daniel 😊
Hi. This car was amazing! I wish I could have seen it with some doors open, but it was still amazing
Cool video Daniel, as always.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :)
Thanks man.
My pleasure. It... really was my pleasure. I had a great time seeing it, traveling to see it, and then editing the video to show it. Lucky lucky lucky
What a great exhibit!
It really was/is. More people coming to Japan should visit
Those old car you film in last part, I think we can restore as new car
Great cars missed the premiere damn
For me the replicas of things that don't exist anymore if done well it's an opportunity to take in something and get a feel. Often the replica can have a good story, who how and why for these things can be vary interesting. Having said that of course, walking up to something not knowing, it's going to bring things down a bit. Still, better than a gap in such an important story as cosmo development.
This gonna be good
Thanks, mate. Can't make promises, but it was a heck of an adventure for me :)
@@wasabicars Great stuff as always! Love these obscure Mazdas. Have a great weekend mate!
very cool :). i remember i used to have an orange rx-500 from matchbox many years ago, it was worn to hell, the opening rear hatch was missing, and i had no idea what car its even supposed to be back then hahaha. also seeing that GF capella still used in a firedept was kinda suprising, since i read about 8 year old cars being scrapped because theyre "too old" in japan and all that jazz, haha
I still have the Matchbox of that Mazda I got when I was a kid in the 70's. Keep the videos coming.
Oh, so cool! I've been checking the auction sites for them. Even a Tomica of one of those would be a great memento of the car
OMG!👏🏻😮What a museum! Such an exposition!😎👍🏻I’d love to visit it. Thank you so much for showing around!😊💙💛
So cool!
The silver reminds me of the refresh done on the Holden hurricane in the 80s.
Ah. And, now yo mention it, that front glass that wraps around
"im gonna need a cigarette after this, people" hahahahah!
I don't even smoke. Well, except after cars. Lol!
Gday Dan!
Hi, there. Thank for watching
Hi daniel! How are you my friend, what a content you have 🎉👌
Thank you :)
Thanks for bringing us along! I'm with you, I'd rather be blissfully unaware that I am looking at a replica. But then, I found most things in museums in Japan tend to be replicas due to the ... unpleasantness about 80 years ago. Well, that and the general lack of durability of things built in the Edo era and prior. But it's still important to see things in the flesh sometimes, so I'll allow it.
Thanks for sharing the great exhibit with 0,7 RPM's, had me laughing.
Reminds me of the Mercedes Benz c111. Plenty of museum cars are not in the same condition as polished at car shows .
Hello mate, hope you're good. Yeah, not bad but their no Eunos 20B! Looking forward to seeing some old school sabi. Take care dude 🤘
Hey. Yeah, love the 'sabi. Tell me about it. Lol! Actually, on this very road trip I saw a bunch of 'sabi. You are/were a Patreon? Because there's totally a video up of it
Was that a white Honda 1300 coupe I saw at the end? Can’t wait to see that next video…
Dosent matter if it's a replica or not, understandable that the original is not around anymore. Being that it's been built by Mazda gives it more Cred as a replica. Also that hydrogen RX8 is cool! And the RX500 😳😳😳😳 no doubt it's the car that has been scanned into GT7 and GT sport
it has the Buck Rogers look about it 😂
Ha! It does ;-)
Daniel, you definitely need a CPL filter...
Lol. You are definitely right. I probably needed one 12 years ago 😂
MITUBISHI VRは家の近くです!
I loved to be ignorant on the Cosmo, but alas now I know.... 😅
Yeah, it's like my ever dream to own a true Carina GT-R or GT- TR, but even if I will drop in that 4AGE or 3TGTE and replace all the badges, I will know it isn't a real one. Nobody will know or see the difference, but I'll know....
P r o m o s m 🤪
