I'm thrilled you are not reading as many hyped books, as a booktubers' own taste leads to greater variety of books to learn about👯‍♀️

Yes it is very hard to sift through the Booktube hype for quality books! I’m working on that next year too.

Congratulations on 94 books, Helene! I read slowly and what with various commitments and tasks I finished reading only 25 books this year but I enjoyed the books. I seem to average about 40 books per year and my unofficial goal for 2019 is 45 as it was for this year. I want to read in books in what I call the Three E's: Entertainment, Education and Edification.

I love watching your videos. they make me feel less guilty about wanting to take my time and truly enjoy the books rather than trying to read as many as i can.

Having fun reading is always the best goal to have! I've recently looked at some of my older eviews and they were so much more analytical and organized, thinking about getting back to that maybe.

Aww, excellent video. I like your thinking....taking it casual and most importantly enjoying your books without the pressure. I am with you regarding the "need" to read hyped books.....it shouldn't be like that, should always be personal choice. In the meantime I wish you a very Happy New Year when it lands xx.

Happy New Year!! 🎊 I also plan to lower my goal for next year so that I don’t feel pressured to meet a number, especially since I am reading longer books as well as lots of nonfiction which I purposely read slower.

Happy New Year! I try to only read books that sound like I would really like them, and so far (knock on wood), it seems to be working. My lowest ratings this year were 3 stars. I also decluttert my tbr list on Goodreads, removing more than 50 books. Most of those books I added to my tbr when I found the Goodreads site, and I wasn't selective about adding them. So I'm ready for 2019 (on the book front at least lol)

Hey there Helene. How are you doing? Happy New Year to you too. I know exactly how you feel. I like to listen to books at a much slower rate than many other people. I think that 50 books is a great goal. I did want you to know, that I checked on Amazon.com, and I was able to find an audio version of the Teacher book that you talked about, so I decided to pick it up. I will be sure to let you know what I think about it once I have read it. Including this book, I have about 4 other biographies that I have been meaning to look into reading. Right now I am currently reading/listening to 2 different books that I have picked up from a special library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. It is called the Library of Congress Talking Book Topics program. It also has an app called the Braille Audible Reading Database where I can download audio books that a volunteer has read out loud from cover to cover word for word. I have been legally blind, I wear contact lenses and thick glasses, for all of my life, so I use that and audible to find my next great read. Right now, I am currently reading first the Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and second the Burning Stone by Kate Elliott. I hope that you get that book that you wanted. Also, I am going to be continuing with my readathon of all of the rest of the J. R. R. Tolkien books that I have found. See ya. Julie

Helene, I’m right there with you on avoiding hyped books. Check out The Officer’s Ward by Marc Dugain. It’s a French book, super fast read, but definitely worth it. Also an American book called I Lost My Love In Baghdad by Michael Hastings. Both quick reads, but so poignant and great themes. I think you would appreciate them.

I’m also frequently disappointed by hyped books. In the past few years I’ve participated in some reading challenges and read books that weren’t really to my taste just because they fulfilled a challenge category. I promised myself I won’t do that in 2019. I am only reading books I really like.

The Passage series is good, but definatly dystopian. I had to stop the genre for a while after finishing all 3. Read at your own risk. But, please let me know when you finish. I'd luv to hear your impressions.

I think Booktube would benefit from creators reading what they want to read not what's popular. I heard others creators express the same goal and I think it's fantastic. I have decided to use a jar to pick what books I want to read so it's making me be selective of the books I add to my library.
