I have the issue with the switch/cable. Boat runs fine but sometimes when leaving sandbar, it stalls when I put in gear and wont start. My mechanic said it was the neutral cable/switch and it needs to be greased? I will look on my merc 4.3 to find the switch. Not sure what to do next but I cannot get my mechanic to my boat for the life of me.
My 1985 mastercraft starts, but when I shift into reverse or forward there is no revs no movement but the boat stays on. What do you think it could be?
That is usually a faulty inner shift cable or an incorrectly adjusted or faulty control cable that is ultimately the problem with this switch. It actually is only supposed to work when pulling out of gear because of the load on the engine when the engine is idling and you are in gear the gears need a little stumble in the Ignition system in order to release the tension on the Gears which allows neutral to be had.
I was just explaining why it dies. What actually makes it die. If you are in a jam you can make your boat work. Yes the correct fix is the shift cable.

Roger that man. Hope your boating this summer. Stay safe.
And I just checked out your channel how do you concentrate on working on boats. Got some beautiful women there.
