  • The Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup, or WURL, is a climbing route that circumnavigates Little Cottonwood Canyon, crossing over more than 20 named peaks along the way.
“It’s just not something you should read about on the internet and be like, 'Hey, I’m going to go try this Saturday because it looks interesting.' You should know what you’re in for and know what the route’s going to be like before you go try it,” said Michael Finger, who has been a member of Salt Lake County Search and Rescue for more than a decade. “Most of the time you’re scrambling, you’re finding the safest path through the rock, you’re doing a lot of route finding, you’re really far from help if anything goes wrong, you’re really exposed. So if you do slip and fall, it’s most likely going to be fatal or life-changing.”
Salt Lake County SAR recovered the body of a climber who had fallen on a section of the WURL this past weekend. The route is extremely challenging, and it is only recommended for experienced climbers and ultra-runners who have ample experience with unforgiving terrain and exposure.

My personal opinion on this kind of stuff is going to floor people I mean I enjoy mountaineering I enjoy climbing I enjoy doing stuff but I feel like if I take myself into an environment and I kill myself so to speak because of my idiotic stuff that I do whatever that nobody else should have to risk their life to come get me I think the search and rescue thing I have an issue with it I mean I love that they go out there and catch people but people are doing stupid stuff like this climbing on the top of a mountain like that is idiotic you are going to hurt yourself and you are going to cause other people to come up there and hurt themselves to try to get your stupid self off of the mountain so I just say you know if you're doing something like that and you get hurt you're on your own choice and consequence people and I'm going to revert back to earlier this year when some other idiots hit a whole bunch of money all over in our state and had people coming all over looking for it and hundreds of people got lost over that those idiots should be charged for every search and rescue operation that had any correlation to the junk that they hid in the woods
