  • The Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup is a route created by Jared Campbell about 10 years ago. It is approximately 36 miles in length and crosses 20+ mountains, with 20,000ft of vert. The route is very technical and requires a lot of skill to remain safe.

Then we failed. Our goal was to make ourselves look so cool no one could ever measure up. I guess what really happened is us two old guys showed that you could crawl through it on Dr Pepper and cold pizza. Just kidding. Glad we could help out. Nice work out there. Keep the videos coming.

So glad this popped up in my feed. Great seeing this for the first time, Craig and Sammy!

Nice job. Always wanted to do this but I’d probably end up falling and getting lifeflighted out like that one guy last week.

I see a lot of people doing the night section towards the middle or end of their route. Is there a reason you would want to do it that way as opposed to starting at 9pm and getting that out of the way first?

Is it not possible to sleep at night like a regular backpacking trail? What’s the reason people do this through the night?

The ultra running style is to usually complete the route as quickly as possible. This would fall into that. Some people have done it by sleeping at night, which is fine too. The style in which the route was first done, however, was more as an ultra "race" and therefore those who are trying to do it in the same style choose not to sleep.

you definitely don't want to carry sleeping gear up and down all the climbs.
if you had some stuff stashed you could sleep, but you would definitely be slower.
i did it in September 2020 in a little over 24 hours... I met someone who bonked and slept in or near a Snowbird ski lodge or lift, not sure. It took him over 40.

Not sleeping is the hardest part.
I’ve been thinking about it for at least 8 years now on “should I ultra it or bivouac?”
Watching you two come out Bells punch drunk is leading me more to bivouac. Hey man, I’m freakin’ 59 now 😂
Great job, though. I would have liked seeing how you two were doing on Pfeiff in the middle of the night, of course.
My biggest worry is Devils Castle in the dark. You two got over that in really good time.
