  • Overview of Coronaviruses That Cause Disease in Humans (COVID-19, SARS, MERS and Other Coronaviruses), including their discovery, origins, diseases caused by each, virus types and lineages, and basic reproduction numbers
    In this lesson, we discuss all of the coronaviruses known to cause disease in humans, including HCoV viruses (ex. HCoV-229E) and the newer coronaviruses (like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19), when each of the viruses was discovered, possible origins, diseases caused by each, virus types and lineages, and basic reproduction numbers.

    IMPORTANT UPDATE: Hi everyone. As many have commented, the hypothesis of the origin of SARS-CoV-2 mentioned in this video is outdated and highly likely to be incorrect. At the time of recording this lesson (April 2020), what was mentioned in this lesson was the prevailing hypothesis. But as time has gone on, new evidence has emerged, and this is NOT the prevailing hypothesis at present. So, please disregard what is mentioned here for the possible origin of SARS-CoV-2. The reproductive number and mortality rate of SARS-CoV-2 is likely different (due to different variants) than what is presented here as well. Other information is accurate. If there is any other information that is incorrect, please let me know. Thanks - I hope you all find this lesson helpful and informative, and my apologies for not providing an update sooner. JJ.

    Great job on all the human coronaviruses. There’s just one aspect about OC43 I was hoping you’d touch on. It has been molecularly dated to 1890. That’s very close to when the 1889 Russian flu pandemic started. There’s a good chance it was caused by OC43 instead of influenza.

      Naturally if you eat an infected animal which is not cooked the right meaning almost raw meat not enough heat you get the same infection and you infect ppl around you

    Any info on similarities between OC43 and SARS-CoV-2 S and N proteins? I'm digging why do parents of young children (below 5yo) tend not to have any symptoms of COVID-19 or not even catch it at all (like they would have some NK, CD4 or CD8 lymphocytes that destroy the virus before it can even attach).

    Belief is religion

    • @anotherpointofview222
      @anotherpointofview222 Před 2 lety

      Belief isn't a religion. Believing is the decision you make to accept something as true. You can believe anything presented to you. A lie can be believed just as easy as the truth. Belief is what you accepted as true. Religions hold certain beliefs. Science does too. Don't equate beliefs with religion. That's what most people do. Try and pretend or give the impression that science has beliefs too. Based on known facts, most time. They come to conclusions that are nothing more than beliefs. Not much different than religion, which may not have known verifiable facts.

You got to remember CZcams tends to be a trustworthy source for many, and many of these people do not dig for factual and truthful information sources or have no other real options for their information

      -Virus membrane is stable in cold and dry weather and get damaged with heat.
      -People in cold weather tend to stay indoors which increases transmission
      -UV lights kills the virus which is absent in cold weathers.
      -UV light also make the body produce Vitamin D which regulates immunity to respond to viruses

Technically with the coronaviruses we have hit herd immunity due to the coronaviruses that have circulated the world populations for decades
