      Is it partly because he's European? American players, especially the retired ones (e.g. Kenyon Martin and Arenas) love to air their opinions and spill the beans on what happens behind the scenes. Barkley is the only one that can get away telling NBA stories only because what he tells are either inspirational or genuinely funny.

    I think one thing to note is that when Porzingis got to Dallas, he and Luka were really looked at as equals. Porzingis had already been an all-star, while Luka was on his way to ROY. And then Luka made that enormous leap in his second season that no one expected, and maybe it caught Porzingis off guard a bit too because at that point, Luka was the clear number 1, rather than them being 1A and 1B.

    I appreciate the open and honest reflection from Kristaps. I like him, and while things didn’t work out for him in Dallas, I don’t hold it against him. It’s hard to when you see how far he’s come along, both as a player and a person. To acknowledge that you didn’t handle a situation as well as you could have, and/or that ego was getting in the way of things, is refreshing to hear. And seeing him relatively healthy and putting up great numbers, first in Washington and now in a winning culture in Boston, really makes me happy, especially since I’ve been a fan of his since his days in New York.

    I appreciate Kristapps honesty about lack of maturity. He's come a long way and as we can see he's a better player also as a result. But I also agree, Luka needs to grow up more. He seems to not be whining about calls as much which is good. Both are great players that will become even greater as they mature.

    • @Alexander_Grant
      @Alexander_Grant Před 5 měsíci +1

      It takes longer for athletes like that to mature. Most of us have faced adversity in life plenty more by the time we reach that age, whether it be through sports or school or work. Most of these guys have always been the absolute best at whatever they do, and learning how to deal with adversity is part of the process. Even now, Luka is one of the best in the NBA, so his only taste of adversity is really due to injury and team success. That isn't to take away from the time and effort they put into practice and working out, just a side effect of being that good.
      As a personal anecdote, playing baseball from the time it was player pitch to high school, I lost a total of like 2 games where I started pitching. Never did travel ball or anything because we couldn't really afford the costs, but I was always on the all-star teams and such. My first game in high school, it was a preseason exhibition with a 5A high school that was in the city, and I got hammered, 3 HRs in one inning before I got pulled. It's tough, but you learn how to lose.

He was used as a catch and shoot 3 point shooter or he was given the ball way too much in the post where at that point of his career, he was poor in it and even struggled against smaller wings. He was still great and defensively he was good for the most part (when he was getting bullied by guards) but Luka-KP never reached the level that it could have unfortunately. I don’t think it helps that during the 2021 Clippers series he was out clubbing when he wasn’t performing well. Facts: The KP Trade is still hunting us as we owe the Knicks a first round pick. KP's biggest issue in Dallas was not Luka, was not RC, he was injured a lot and so he was never able to get to his prime in Dallas. Besides that he dealt with some stuff in his private life. And that is why I don't regret the trade to Washington.
    The Unicorn Era got revived with Wemby and Chet. Jokic, Embiid and Giannis dominate the MVP Conversation. KP matured and is a very good versatile big at the Cs. Mavs also got their Center in DL II. Happy End for both sides.
    Btw:
    Everybody hyped the Mavs up for the trade at that time robbing the Knicks. In hindsight it was a terrible trade.
    Who would have thought 5 years ago that a 6ft Guard in Dallas on a shortened Rookie contract would be a future superstar at the Knicks and his name is Brunson?
    Mavs made so many mistakes in that season, giving Brunson a shorter Rookie Deal, dumping Harrison Barnes and trading for KP who at that time came of a serious knee injury.
