A 42 year old Zamboni driver coming in as the emergency goalie, beating the most expensive group of forwards in the league at home, and becoming a hockey legend is probably the best hockey story I've ever heard.

My son is a goalie and was watching this game when Ayres took the ice. What a special moment for him.
It’s mesmerizing to recap David’s goalie accomplishment, because he is not clouded by money, fame nor politics. He went out on the ice and put his best foot forward with his love for the game. Time and time, passion will generate results in all aspects of work.
what a class act this guy is a legend socking it all in and living a once in a life time dream. He deserves all the attention and Carolina what a hockey town so classy and such a great bunch of guy's to stand tall behind David.

What a thrill for him!!! I played in one NHL exhibition game in Toronto and remember it well. But to have played in an actual NHL game? Wow...lifetime memory!!! So happy for him!!!
From here on out if ever I'm asked for an example of a person who's "beaming" I will turn to Ayers rightfully basking in the glorious aftermath of his amazing night. Absolutely inspiring. We need more people on the public stage who display his kind, grateful and humble demeanor.

imagine how bad it would have been if it was 10 saves on 10 shots, and he didn't let the Leafs get a single goal. At the very least they scored 2 goals on him, if they couldn't score a single goal in a period and a half, it would have been an even bigger yikes.
