This is what hockey is all about. It's not about the Leafs being unable to score against a Zamboni driver. It's about Carolina's players treating him with respect, and then playing their hearts out to give the team a chance. It's about the Toronto crowd cheering his effort. It is the obvious passion for the game that David Ayres has. I'd love to see his reception back in Whitby by his Bantam AA team. Well done David.

Ella Gagnon average guy? He played Junior B hockey In a well known league. Out of the 4 NHL players I personally know, only 2 stayed in the league. We played with tens of thousands of guys and majority of them never had the skill set to play juniors. Some NHL players go right from Junior A hockey to Pro or draft. They need to change the name from “Junior” because it’s as close to semi pro hockey as it gets. This guy you called average, probably played since he was 4 or 5 years old. What am insult to hockey players everywhere man.

My 12 year old daughter asked me, what would happen if the emergency goalie came in game 7 of the Stanley cup finals. Lol imagine that goalie winning it. Either way, I'm so happy for this guy. Pissed we lost but laughing as well knowing that only this would happen to us the last game before trade deadline. Lol Dubas was grabbing his phone after every goal. Ya Dubas. This is your team. Do something about it
Each team usually has a 3rd goalie from the minors on the roster as a healthy scratch so the odds would be really low but if it ever happened than it would be very fun to watch.
@@dj_pro5469 a healthy scratch cant play in a game that they arent on the active roster. It goes to an emergency backup even if the 3rd goalie is in the press box.

As a leafs fan this is one of the most embarrassing moments ever and there have been a lot in the past few decades. But as a hockey fan I'm so happy for this man.
For sure and very well put. I'm pushing 70, old enough to remember 1967 when the Leafs last won the Cup. On paper, there appears to be so much talent. Maybe trade some of that talent for more heart. @@ratedrsuperstar1148 Absolutely! I remember watching that game with my daughter, Leafs were up 4-1 (was it about 5 minutes left in the 3rd?) and she was convinced it was a done deal. I told her that if Boston gets one, they can easily come back. They did...and they did.

The sad part was all the leafs skated off the ice and left Reimer laying face down in the crease in his pool of tears, with 20,000 people staring at him...dang

When an emergency goalie takes to the ice it's one of the most awesome things in hockey and I always cheer for the emergency goalie even if they are playing my favorite team. David Ayres is the man big props and respect to you my friend.
