  • A video explaining how and why I set up the actuating arms on the front brake, as well as the brake cable adjustment.

Thanks for posting this; many Bullet owners don’t know how to set the front brake up then complain it doesn’t work very well, and they certainly do the job adequately if aligned properly, as you show. Did you intend to show a mirror image of the brake plate, so that the wheel rotation is reversed (unless you’re looking from the right side, or from the inside of the drum)? The orientation of the brake arms as you have superimposed them, is backwards with regard to the brake plate. If you apply the correct wheel rotation to your diagram ie. anti-clockwise as you look from the left side of the bike, you actually have a twin trailing shoe brake! Worth mentioning that as well as adjusting the link rod, the individual brake arms can be removed and rotated on their splined shafts to get them set just coming up to 90 degrees.

Thanks for the comment P. E.
The arrow on my diagram isn't meant to indicate wheel rotation but rather the direction the shoes will push out against the drum. I perhaps should have put an arrow out from the end of each shoe since I can see how it could be taken to be wheel rotation. Oh well. 🙂

Thank you. Just one thought: your method relies on both brakeshoes being exactly equal. In my experience that doesn't happen. Still, if you are off just a little bit, the protruding shoe will wear off until they both touch the same.

Measuring the connector rod(red) between actuating arms, is it 145 mm inside arm to arm, or on center from connector dowels?

Between centers of the dowels Neal. It's 145mm between centers of the cams so by keeping the same distance between rod dowels you ensure the actuating arms are parallel.
