Good video! If you hold in shift it levels based on your cursor instead of where you are standing.
Thank you! This just came out on Xbox, and I spent 20 minutes trying to get land to level that just wouldn't do so. The pickaxe technique did the trick.

Going to be destroying and rebuilding my first base / moving to the coast nearby, guna be a huge compound as main base with everything possible, at the moment got a nice large starter base with guard tower, fences and spikes, plus everything needed to make bronze, just killed first boss a few times for pick axes on day +48 with full troll armor and crude bow/fire arrows, ready for mining and sea travel plus cart now, thanks for the video this is exactly what I was looking for to make a new large base. :)

If the hoe wont raise the ground, you can usually hit the ground with a pickaxe and try again. It saves stone vs using the raise ground tool. It seems like you just need to disturb the ground and then the hoe will work fine.

Thanks, Midnight. Skipping the Hoe sounds like an easy mistake to make at the beginning. I'll be picking up the game on March 1, so I'll definitely get a hoe ASAP. Leveling in Astroneer or No Man's Sky always seems to kick my ass in the beginning, so it's nice to have this little guide to help me make my first house _not_ suck quite as much.

this was extremely helpful. I had no idea to do this without a pickaxe. I couldn't figure out why the ground kept raising when I wanted it to stay level. Also, I thought "green" meant good to go

Tbh, if youthink that a good way to start building is to place Floor tiles, then youre not really a builder, youre just a shelter maker, and rough ground is fine
You should start with a small 1m pole/upright beam (if starting on a higher spot) or a 2m one if starting on a lower spot, and then build your horizontal frame for the ground floor, maybe even build the entire frame, and only then start filling it in with Floor and Wall pieces
You then only need to use the Hoe to raise or lower to ensure all vertical beams that touch the ground are blue
This is of course my opinion, you can each build your own way, do what makes you happy
No matter what i do, i can never get the ground level.

Pretty sure I am overthinking this, but does level really level / smooth? Does it only seem subtractive because I am spreading out small peaks over large areas?
Leveling is a total pain in the ass. I think there is too much time spent on this as it does not advance the game. The video was very well done and easy to understand. Is it possible to sign up for just articles concerning Valheim?
This is for inland , try to flatten the area at the coast that involving rising the seabed .
Use Core Wood for your base foundation. You don't need to level!

i don't understand what i'm doing wrong. I'm standing on some slightly elevated ground and im trying to level the lower ground next to it and it shows the circle with the line where its supposed to go. but when i click on it, it doesn't move at all. Its very frustrating :(

i love this game, but holy shit does it frustrate the hell out of me with it's building mechanics i just CAN'T get my ground as flat as yours and it looks like shit and makes building even more painful
Yeah, ground is a little rough. Do you use mods? There is a great mod called Hoe Radius that allows to flatten a much larger area at one time. Now... It's not perfect either, but boy it sure helps. www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/1199
