  • In this video, I walk through 10 additions you can make to any Valheim stone, core wood & dark wood house to make it feel more complete and give it more character. To showcase these steps in the clearest way possible, I show 11 different versions of the same house, each with 1 new improvement added on.
    This video is intended to be part 2 of my last “10 Additions” video, which used only basic wood. That video can be found here: • Valheim | 10 EASY Wood...
    Because you all asked for it, this video focuses on a house using 3 more advanced materials: stone, core wood, and dark wood!

    You have so quickly become one of the best instructional builders for ANY sandbox game, as a lot of these tips translate to making beautiful builds in a variety of games (Conan exiles is another one that comes to mind that has an amazing building system) i truly hope you get massive exposure because youre on another level i havent seen anyone come close to, you have a way of translating your thought process into words and visual descriptions very well, wish you all the success! Black marble next? :D

      Holy shit (pardon my French...) thank you SO much for taking the time to say such a nice thing. I can't express how much it means to me to hear that. Thank you. A lot of time and work goes into one of these builds + vids (I didn't count, but I'd estimate probably 120 hours), and the entire time I question if the vid is something that ANYONE will find worth watching. Pressing that "publish" button at the end is nerve-wracking! It's silly, but coming here and reading a comment like yours instantly washes most of that anxiety away and makes all the effort feel worthwhile. Thank you again. ❤
      And yes, black marble is the obvious next step :D I need a slight break from it, though, after my massive initial Mistlands build (czcams.com/video/AFwCxt1WENI/video.html), so I think next up is to make a few vids on some of my other builds that already exist. Maybe similar commentary companion vids to my build showcase videos where I can talk about some of the design decisions, details and techniques that went into the build. Not completely sure yet. Anyway, stay tuned!

      Thank you, Marcell! I definitely feared the video will be too long for most people to watch, but hoped breaking it down into chapters makes it more accessible. I fully expect viewers to skip around to see if it's going anywhere before determining if it's worth continuing to watch (by it's nature, an evolving build starts slowly.) I'm really pleased and grateful to hear you watched the whole thing and the experience was smooth 😊

    I'm especially thankful for the philosophical interlude after Level 4, because I was really wondering, whether you're planning your projects out or not. I'm really not into planning at all. For the most part I don't even build from scratch. I mostly find a nice ruin with a pretty view and start renovating.

      @Homitu  Před rokem +7

      Thanks! I’m glad someone appreciated that bit! For sure, no matter how much I try planning in advance, it’s almost pointless for me. It’s always just a process of iterating and trying out different ideas as they arise.
      Side note: I’m getting ready to try to go a few real life landscaping projects this summer and I have no idea how I’m going to accomplish it if I can’t just try things and undo them when they don’t work lol

    your video about 10 easy wooden additions immediately became my favorite to reference when I build in valheim. Im not creative and before I found your channel my valheim bases were always just one huge box with squares for windows with uneven and ugly roof, but thanks to you I understood how to work with the build items and I am no longer ashamed to let my co op friends visit my base :D thank you so much, your videos are really helpful and easy to understand even for noobs like me. you deserve so much more views!

    I started playing not long ago so this is perfect timing. I love building in games and never really plan ahead, just wing it as I go. There are great tips in here. Dimension and detailing adds so much more beauty and immersion to a build. The bonus of landscape is also a wonderful addition quite often overlooked. Great job and thanks for the inspiration.

With an excellent recipe, a happy and inspired cook!

    One of my favourite things to do in this game with hearths is to put it in a space outside the room walls, put a wood wall in the centre of it, and put glass in front of the fireplace which stays flush to the room walls giving it a faux fireplace look and feel. Frame it with some dark wood and a half wood wall hiding the stone part of the hearth adds to the illusion 🤩 gives such a cozy atmosphere

    I love that you've positioned yourself as the Bob Ross of Valheim builds! I was a big fan of the predecessor to this video and made my friends watch it so our most recent survival base wouldn't just be ugly cube buildings. That video made us all into better builders. I'm really proud of the builds I made on my latest playthrough even though they're all absolute amateur hour compared to your and other creators' stuff.
    I've been taking a break from Valheim for the last month or so, but was delighted to see this come up in my feed. Up until now I've exclusively played Valheim in survival mode with my friends (525 hours!) but have long-admired the incredible things people make in creative mode, so I think it's finally time to try my hand at that. I have to say, while I was typing this comment I got distracted and looked at your 100 hr Mistlands build and I am LOSING MY MIND. IT"S ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE and I can't even keep my composure. I want you to know I'm going to go download the mods you use and start my creative mode journey in earnest. Your videos have given me the final push I needed.
    Keep making videos! Teach us how to make your Mistlands build! Cheers!

    Another absolutely amazing video Homitu! Sorry I'm so late, it took me a few days to finish your video (in pieces) but I finally finished! I've actually been trying to utilize a lot of your techniques in game BECAUSE *drumroll*... my friends came back!!! I had been turtling my way through the game in single player since Decemeber, when just last weekend one of my friends decides he wants to buy and play the game. Since he bought it, everyone decided they wanted to play too; then another one of my friends bought it as well. So we started a new server with 8 people strong! A week has past, and one dropped off completely, a couple play when needed, but there's still a good core group or 4-5 of us. (one of the newbies is absolutely obsessed with the game, he plays more than all of us!) But yea, just an update, anyway your video was amazing. I still think your pacing and your explanations were perfect, I didn't get confused with anything that you were doing! Keep up the great work!

    Regarding chimneys: I often build a containment instead of a chimney. Functioning chimneys have to be bulky, due to the size of valheimian smoke 'particles'. But smoke can be contained, for example under stone stairs, or under a terrace. Sometimes results in a much cleaner look, especially with relatively small buildings.
    With large buildings, chimneys definitely have their place, no doubt of that.

    That Level 4/5 house is similar to something I've had in my head but not quite there yet and it's inspired me to do something similar. I can proper see that as a crafting house/blacksmiths house. Can't wait to get started see what I can come up with. I am new to building but loving it. Though I am not good and have no real method but I just build however I think looks good once the creativity finally starts flowing lol.
    These must take u a while, I can only imagine. I questioned my sanity the other night as I spent about 4-5 hours just on a fireplace/kitchen area lol

      I think patience is the name of the game when it comes to building really nice stuff. It does, indeed, all take me quite a while. A single "nice" house like this, plus all the landscaping and exterior "completion of the space" would generally take me 20-30 hours of iteration, building in creative mode. The video...takes me much longer lol. But as long as you're having fun throughout, that's all that matters :)

      Hahaha, several commenters had told me that and picked up on that before I "officially" adopted it as my thing! I grew up watching a ton of Bob Ross with my grandpa, which probably subconsciously influenced my approach to building in this game as well making an instructional video. It wasn't until my first big video where I decided that was the perfect angle to take that was a little different from what the other awesome builders out there were doing.
      Break building down into basic parts, make it accessible, show that you, too, can build beautiful things! Join me on my journey as I create *my* build, where the focus isn't just on what I'm building, but on offering ideas and inspiration for you to use in your own awesome creations!
      Anyway, thanks so much for watching and commenting! Since my voice apparently makes people sleepy, maybe I'll also start a subscriber perk where, for a fee, you can pick a book and I'll read you bedtime stories ;)

    There is a technique to build a big wooden pillar in the very center of a stone floor. You build a stone floor first, then place a wooden pole in the center by using 2x1m beems, then from that pole place 8 2m beams in s octagonal shape, then on the every end you place a wooden door with its corner perpendicularly so that it would slide into the beam on the half of the door’s width, then remove the beams from their position and place same beams on the same position, but so that they would touch the door, side, and not slide in. Then you take a wooden pole and try to place it on the end of those beams that close to the initial central pole. The new poles will slightly slide in and in the end , when all 8 poles are placed on the beams, they create an ideal wooden pilar, ideally centered on the stone floor.

    I have a suggestion for the audio on your videos - the music getting suddenly loud on each title screen is disruptive to the overall vibe of the video. I think keeping it quiet would be a much better listening experience. Listening to you talk about building is basically ASMR at this point

      Thanks so much! Absolutely noted on the audio. It's so strange because when I listen to it from the software program I use to edit, even after it's fully processed, it sounds totally fine (both with headphones and via speakers). But I totally agree that once uploaded to CZcams, it sounds too loud throughout, but those transitions are especially jarring. Noted for the future for sure!

    Let me give you one Idea living of this one: Arched Bridges.
    Have Arched Bridges connect Houses over a Street - even if it is just "seemingly" as it serves no purpose (aka will never be used).
    Also, you can buiold the Corewood Logs on the inside of a Stone, having it overlap on the outside a bit.
    This also allows for the Indise beeing "paneled" with Wood fineley, giving a lick and lean look you can work on from unbound from the outer looks.

    I absolutely love your content! I've never used mods so thanks for explaining the ones you use. I'm curious if you actually play in this world or just enjoy the building aspect? I'd hate for an event to spawn and a couple of trolls show up and smash your beautiful home! That would be tragic.

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  Před rokem

      Aw thanks man! This particular build was built in my world dedicated specifically to making these "10 steps" builds, so not in a world I was playing in for any progression purposes. These builds with 10 versions of the same house basically consume an entire south-facing coastline on a given continent :D So I just use the console command to explore the full map and pick out decent looking spots.
      That said, these are exactly the kinds of buildings I do build in my survival worlds and shared servers! Trolls aren't that intimidating once you make friends with them. They might occasionally get one good swing on a building, but if you just run outside and walk away from your base, they follow and leave your stuff alone 😀

    Noob question for you > Are you in a build mode? How are you floating? When I build a roof I have to make a ladder to put on the top beams, otherwise I slide off the roof. Is there a build mode I'm missing? I just started playing Valheim about a week ago.
    Thank you and keep up the good work! Super clean instruction!

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  Před rokem

      Hi, yes! There is a "creative mode" the devs include in the base game. On PC, you can press F5 in game to bring up the console command window. In that, you first type "devcommands", hit ENTER; then type "debugmode" + ENTER. Exit out of the console command window. Now, a few keyboard hotkeys will activate a few effects:
      Z = fly. To toggle fly speed, press Shift+C and mouse scroll to go faster/slower.
      B = free build mode (no more material costs)
      K = kill everything in the area
      L = remove all nearby drops that are lying on the ground.
      Creative mode can be super fun when all you want to do is create, like an artist painting on a canvas (who wants to worry about farming all our paints and pigments first??) That said, I HIGHLY recommend playing the game naturally first. The default survival experience is super fun, and having to discover, unlock, and farm your own materials to build cool, new things is a huge part of that experience. Building scaffolding to build higher is fun as well! I still play both ways often :)
      Happy building!

    Very well done! You might want to look at the sound volume levels in the video again. For example at minute 22:23 the background music suddenly relatively loud which can be off-putting to some. Also with your calm voice (which is great for this kind of content), you might want to lower the volume of the music at the beginning, too.
    Maybe it's just my headphones tho so I might as well be wrong here.
    Keep it up, really interesting and inspiring content!

      @Homitu  Před rokem +1

      Hi Hixx! Thanks for the feedback! You know, I actually exported this video once (which takes 3 hours to do…), listened to several parts, and noticed similar audio issues. So I went back and tuned the sound for just about every segment and exported it a 2nd time. The lowest default option for a full clip is 10% volume, but I actually had to manually lower the music tracks to between 4-6%. Thankfully, I also lowered the volume on those black screen clips from 80% to 50%! But definitely noted to tune them lower in the future. It’s all a learning experience for me! I was trying to mirror a technique I’ve seen used in other videos online, though I don’t think it worked out so well with some of the tracks I used. Thanks again for watching!

    On round pillars like the ones holding your addition up it looks better if you start the base off with your first four being 2m posts then the other four use 4m posts. Repeat this pattern till the desired height is reached. This way the lines from where the post end dont line up creating a clear straight circle. Similar to the offset bricks method it adds a more pleasing visual end result to the finished product.

It eases the inventory slightly by adding specific slots for the armor you have equipped (because why would armor you area wearing also take slots in your inventory!?) and 3 additional hotkey slots for food, or potions, or whatever.
      I believe OdinsQOL by Azumatt does the same thing and more if you're interested in additional functionality (ie. increasing your overall inventory by X rows, etc.)

    The roof dormer reminds me of one very happy little accident I had.
    It was a fairly large U shaped ex-box where I put my comfort in the middle segment. Above the hot tub I made a 6m wide gap with 2 I sections and a regular roof.
    And then, when I sat down on my throne, I wondered for a moment: "What is this bright light!?"
    The gap in the roof gave a perfect direct view on the moon, specifically from that position.
    I doubt that I can make that happen deliberately.

    • @Homitu
      @Homitu  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Your comment totally just prompted me to test the moon cycle in Valheim, and I discovered something I had never noticed before. The moon actually rises and sets in the *exact same trajectory* as the sun, exactly half a day apart.
      tod .2 for the moon (early dawn) = tod .7 for the sun (late evening) | tod .4 for the sun (late morning) = tod .9 for the moon (early night). You can test by choosing a random time of day, going into fly mode, and just aiming directly at the sun/moon. Then change the tod to be +/- 0.5 difference, and you'll see that the opposite celestial object appear in the exact same spot!
      Happy accident indeed :)
