- The #PSVR2 is here and we have been using it like crazy, these are our thoughts and initial impressions (review) taking this thing out of the box and trying it out. There is plenty more to come, in this video we played After the Fall, Gran Turismo 7 in the Yaw 2 Motion Sim Rig, and Pavlov.
There will be a more full blown review of the PSVR2 in the future.
6 foot USB c extension works with PSVR2

I'm absolutely loving my PSVR2. Stuff like the eye tracking, resistive triggers and even the head haptics feel like it gets you further immersed. And the OLED colours is nice, even though the graininess is there.
Played the canyon level of kayak VR and felt like I had an emotional moment with all the beautiful scenery.
I am a big fan of the triggers, and the head haptics are pretty cool. Hopefully some more games take full advantage of that.
I still need to hop in Kayak vr. Will do that today!!
That's why I sent mine back for refund that grainy look it shouldn't even be a thing now with vr being out like it is now
Looking forward to getting some real time in it. Glad you guys are enthusiast
Looking forward to your thoughts after getting some time in there!!
Awesome video! Loving my PS VR2 so far.
Me too, just got out of playing GT7 for a while, and man it's so much fun.
I got my VRR2 late date release delivery. I had the VR1. The only thing I have noticed is my forehead certainly gets marks lines and only played a little while an hour is max time without having to take it off. I never had this problem with the VR1. I have actually tried to put a sock on my forehead to make it more comfortable 😂. Anyway I have bought this head band from Amazon to see if this helps. I suppose people are all going to have different issues it not like it’s been tailored made individually.❤. I played it fir longer today trying to adjust it but still had heavy marks.
What software are you using to export the motion / telemetry data from GT7?
I am using Sim Racing Studio. Run that on the PC, then put in your PS5 ip address
Great to see it works with the Yaw 2 and your racing wheel, I wasn't expecting that!
How are the visuals compared to the Quest Pro with wired PCVR? and the FOV?
It's a blast with the Yaw 2. I still think the visuals of the Quest Pro hooked up to a PC are better. The fov in the psvr2 is pretty decent, as long as you can pull the lenses is real close to your eyes.
I know you want answers from RR, but the FOV on quest 2 vs PSVR2 is much worse, noticable when I went back to Q2 after playing GT7 for 3 hours. Q2 is still 'ok' though but if you're interested in FOV then PSVR2 is easily the winner (if you can pull it in all the way as I can). Quest pro has an even smaller FOV than Quest 2... but higher dot pitch so should be a good bit sharper than the others but with smaller FOV (and non black blacks which I hate).
I've read some say the video compression artifacts from PCVR to Quest 2/pro could be compared to the mura effect on PSVR2 so maybe they are about the same at the end? I do know that colours and contrast POP and things feel way more present and 'real' in PSVR2 than my Quest 2 playing Alyx (which seems kinda faded and washed out by comparison). Obviously Quest pro has better colours/black than Quest 2 but with light bloom (from FALD) and imperfect blacks still... but again you can say PSVR2 has glare so it's a trade off. I can't fault the colours and black on PSVR2 - GT7's VR showroom with HDR on the rear lights up close etc looks stunning.
We all have different priorities for HMDs (inc price and PSVR2 is almost a third of Qpros price or was), for me black level is #1 (with vibrant colours and HDR). I'd love to not have god rays but there you go... trade offs again until we get micro oled /super bright OLED panels for pancake's light sapping downside.
PSVR2 is far from perfect, but for now it's the best shot we have with VR as a whole to be pushed into mainstream so should try to accept the flaws and see how far we've come for the price vs our rit DK2 days! ;)
@@SpacehotelMusic thanks, not sure where you heard the Pro's FOV is small though. I've got Quest 2 and Quest Pro and the FOV of the Quest Pro is significantly better than the Quest 2. It's also better than my Reverb G2 and Vive Pro 2. It's fractionally wider FOV than the Valve Index and a bit worse on the vertical so about Index level FOV.
It helps that there is no facial interface so you can get right up to the lenses with your eyes. And also that the clarity is truly edge to edge.
@@RenderedReality Is the FOV comparable to the Quest Pro you would say?
@J L With the PSVR2 the fov is pretty good, if you can get the lenses close enough to your eyes, with is all the way in I would say it's close to quest pro, but depending on your face it's hard to play with the lenses that close. The lenses hut my nose. The Quest Pro fov always feels really big to me, because I usually play with no blinders on it.
How much is that sim rig with motion simulator? You have a video on which one to choose in regards to which motion sim rig to get? Preferably one that works with PS5 since I don’t have a pc
Unfortunately you still have to have a PC to run sim racing studio, to get it working on the PS5
I’m loving it. Light Brigade has been my favorite so far
I havent tried that one yet, I hear good things though!!
@@RenderedReality it’s really good
I returned my headset and now waiting for a replacement. I was getting poor resolution and I don’t think the tracking was rendering where I was looking. I can live with the screen door effect. But I was having really concerning resolution issue. Comparing to other users reviews saying their focal point was crystal clear. Fingers crossed I have a better experience on the new headset.
Hmm, the sweet spot is pretty small, but for me even perfectly in the sweet spot idk that is crystal clear. I am curious to know if the new one you get will be an improvement. Keep me updated!!!
I just sent in for a replacement as well. I had a black spot/smudge/dead pixels what have you in the right lens (yes I wiped it. It was deep within the lens) it was all that I can see I tried to ignore it but my eyes just went straight to it after knowing it was there. Other than that, it’s not bad, not as great and clear as everyone says it is. Unless I’m playing Horizon or GT7, graphics wise it’s not much different than PS VR1. Screen door is still present but slightly. Can’t wait to get a replacement unit and see what the future holds for PS VR2
Is the image sharp enough or are there major issues with it?
The image is pretty sharp, but there is definitely some mura going on, and the lenses have a pretty small sweet spot.
More of my favorite person/ people
😁👍☕️
8.3/10. I just like where vr is heading. My nose getting in the way of a clear view is really annoying. If I adjust the lense then I lose focus. Gotta pick one . Pressure on nose or unfocused view. Can last about an hour before I need a break. Sometimes The visuals give me the sensation of those old school 3-d glasses you wore at the movies
I'm hoping some aftermarket companies can really help to improve the comfort of the PSVR2. I am still really enjoying it though. I am liking where VR is heading as well!! 😁👍☕️
Hi, what’s the name of that racing setup?? Thanks
That is the Yaw 2 motion Sim rig
@@RenderedReality thank you
@@YC305 no problem!!
I grabbed a 1 meter extension cable by ugreen .... gamertag vr said anything past 1 meter eventually started losing connection so I'd try ur 6ft cable out for a longer period to see
I Second that, If you guys miraculously found the one that works it would be a great boon for any who wish to extend their psvr2s cable
Hmm I have used it for a decent amount of time now, but I will really put it to the test see if it causes me any issues
Thankfully I can push it in all the way comfortably, doesn't touch my nose (and I don't wear glasses). FOV has been great for vs quest 2 Same for black levels obviously. I'm trying not to nit-pick the obvious flaws too much (ghosting/sweet spot/flares etc) as I recall paying twice as much for Vive O.G and how bad that was in many ways (tracking was cool though). It's gonna come down to the software with this, don't want a slew of indie games on PS need more triple A games with 'VR MODE' like village, GT7 etc. Then the ease of use and the compelling experiences will offset the flaws (for relatively cheap £500). GT7 alone has made it worth it to me right now. Index 2 with HDR Micro OLED, Pancake etc would certainly be my next move if and when they give us it. I can't go back to LCD.
Yeah, has some nice things about the headset, there are also some things I don't like. Software is going to be key with how well this headset does going forward I think.
I don't own a PS5 so I'm not going to purchase PSVR2 but I hope Sony can take us to the next level of VR.
I hope the PSVR2 does well, seems very mixed so far of people either loving it or hating it though.
I got mine and I'm disappointed in the screen door effect is still present and the motion blur. This is unacceptable for cost of this headset
I didn't notice the screen door effect, but there is some mura that looks similar, and the motion blur is definitely disappointing. It won't be as bad if devs stick to 90hz, instead of trying to reproject to 120hz from 60.
@@RenderedReality Yeah the MURA is different on this to PSVR1 - PSVR1 had murky random blotches, but on 2 it's very uniform which does make it look like screendoor.. but you can kind of relax your eyes past it (in VR showroom for example) and get used to that. The blur/ghosting and sometimes shaking isn't great but every HMD right now has flaws, at least this one only cost £500 and has GT7 from day 1. Also... I can't go back to LCD again.
@SpacehotelMusic Yeah the Mura kind of disappears after playing for a little bit
, it's weird lol
I noticed it a bunch when playing kayak vr in the night setting. Also while playing Re 8 at times :/
Its a horrible mura fest for me (in basically every scenerio) so Im changing it for another unit … bummer!
Reconstructive surgery on nose lol. That’s a real vr enthusiast right there.
🤣🤣 gotta do what you gotta do!!! No limits 🤣
So I think I was able to describe my issue with the PSVR2. I do not get motion sickness on any other VR system but I have now had it multiple times on the PSVR1 and 2. I believe this is why. To me the PSVR2 screens seem to be very similar to the PSVR1 screens. OLED screens with a blur and screen-door effect. The lenses are a bit better with less of the screen-door then the PSVR2 but the blur is getting me. It really feels like the PSVR2 is improved EVERYWHERE except the screens. They brought the power of the PS5, check. Amazing controllers with haptics, heck. Rumble in the head, check, eye tracking, check, but "massive" improvement in the screens and lenses, not a check and honestly it feels like they have a powerful computer system that is being bottle-necked by playing on a cheap 200$ monitor. Now I know the OLED screens are best for blacks and contrast, etc but something about them just dont make for good VR screens to me, or atleast the combo with their lenses. While the oculus uses LCD, the quest pro and Vive Pro also use LCD. I dont know why they dont give me motion sickness and even though I know the contrast and blacks are worse, I feel more immersed in them. Sadly I am returning my PSVR2 as I just can't play it, even though I wanna spend hours in RE village, NO mans sky and GT7
It all equals dissapointment. Even if only 1/100 people are getting even a little bit sick that's enough to stop mass adoption and create a big enough user base to support anything decent moving forward.
@@nomanshigh3058 Yeah, disappointment is a good word. But competition pushes technology, so having 3-4 big supported options such as PSVR2, Quest, Vive, and Apple in the ring, the cumulative numbers could also push the tech over the hump. Hope so at least.
It definitely suffers from mura, and the lenses don't have a very big sweet spot, so it's not as easy as it should be to get your eyes in the perfect spot.
@@RenderedReality i just don't understand how it was allowed to ship like this. Its 95% there, but that 5% flaw feels way bigger then it should. 6 year wait and no one said, this needs to be fixed? Its not like they bring out a system every year....this is a 4 + year committment device for them.
I got mine and dissapointment awaited me around every corner. Tested HARD for three days making sure it wasn't just me fucking up. It's blurry, screen door is very noticeable, I don't find it comfortable it was like having a lunch box on my face and most of all I got ridiculously sick. Already returned mine and the guy at the store said I wasn't the only one. We might be rare exceptions but if there's too many having this experience psvr2 is dead on arrival. I'm so gutted I pre ordered day one and wanted so badly for it to be awesome.
DONT BELIEVE YOU 😂 WHAT STORE WAS THIS?
@@rap_leg3nd779exactly lol
So far there are things I like about the headset and things I don't like lol. It seems to be a lot of people either love it or hate it.
I love everything except the sweet spot, and the God awful ghosting, I would rather have a lower framerate than this ghosting, but still am happy with my purchase
Yeah the sweet spot is pretty small. I think devs need to target 90hz rather then 60 reprojectes to 120, that will fix a lot of issues.
hi
Hey!!!! 👋👋
@@RenderedReality hi
Far better hardware quality coming from the psvr2 compaired to the quest 2. Ion know what yall talking about
Just talking about the feel of the plastic really. Not saying the PSVR2 isn't qaukity, it just doesn't feel like real high qaulity materials. Loving using it though
@@RenderedReality comparing them both currently and still dont feel it or see it but ok agree to disagree
First
How are you so quick? Lol
@@RenderedReality power of the quest pro
Got the psvr 2 today but for me a huge disapointment.. Too much mura and reprojection... A real pitty
It foes suffer from those 2 things pretty bad. The mura mind of disappears for me after a while though, I just don't notice it as much as I did at first
Sent mine back wasn't impressed with it my quest pro looks way better .....
Quest Pro definitely looks better, but also a lot more expensive lol. My problem is I want all the headsets 🤣
Funny how if you go to tech channels positive comments vr channels mostly positive with 2or3 negatives go to quest vr channels ALL NEGATIVE comments and most lying because they don't even buy Sony products lol
Haha this headset is definitely setting some waves in the VR space. Not sure why there is so much Quest VS PSVR animosity lol
@@RenderedReality because it's a playstation product which brought the Xbox toxic fans and fused with quest fans to create a " VR war" basically now it's Nintendo fans quest fans Xbox fans vs Sony lol which is stup... Instead of supporting vr gaming lol
It gets blurry, and no, I am not talking about foveated rendering, I am talking about visual fidelity (graininess), shades of the first one. Can't say I'm impressed with it at all. Talk about pre-release bias reviews from people who got sent one. No different than the PSVR 1 when you're in a game or on the main menu. Same quality pretty much. I am not joking. Hell the tracking is 10x better on the PSVR 1 with the camera, and the first one doesn't interrupt your game 100 times each session to re-program your play area because it cannot detect proper movement between the controllers and the headset. Also it cannot even scan your surroundings properly at all and needs 15 takes to do so. You waste 10 minutes every time going through that. The unit should remember your play area, spoiler alert, it doesn't. The sharpness is not perfect like on your TV, in case you expected it to be yeah. I hope eventually with future technology it will get there. But this isn't it. Nowhere close. You're paying all that money for decent, not for good, and very far from crystal clear and fabulous visuals. Whoever tells you that about the unit is clearly 100% full of it. Chuck it on and see for yourself. I had the feeling of being back on the PSVR 1 the moment I placed it on. Still blurs out when moving from left to right. It's only sharp when you're not moving and are still. What kind of garbage is that? It is exactly like the first one. And how hard is it to add a media player with a 360 video option? Is that rocket science to SONY or what? Still, I like it. Dig it. But yeah, not worth the money. Maybe if it was under 500 AUD. But for damn near 900 AUD, the heist of the century. But yeah, nowhere near a real life feel. The marketing and schmucks on the payroll that review them on their channels will tell you otherwise lol. I don't mind it though. Just is what it is. I'd rather have it than not have it. So yeah. Happy PSVR 2'ing. You will STILL be happy... but... yeah!!!!
It definitely has some mura going on, and some motion blur. Luckily I haven't had too many tracking issues yet. I did have some when I moved the Yaw 2 to the middle of the room. It seems like moving a big object in the room messes up the room mapping. I also play in a very well lit room, ot sire if that makes a difference. I'm still running this thing through its paces, I really like some things about it, and not other things lol. I really like the triggers in shooter games.
@@RenderedReality Oh I like it, but that's it. Nothing else haha. It's what we've been given. We have no choice but to just accept it if we want to own one for the PS5. I see many going on eBay and marketplaces within 12 months LMAO !
@@MidnightPodcastGaming haha will definitely be interesting to see how this thing ages!!
@@RenderedReality Haha yep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm all for the barely popular treatment that it gets, especially with so many other quality choices. Just means will be easier to get another, and another, if whatever happens to the ones we have now. Could also buy and sell quite easily. Make some money over its lifespan. I'm content. Just is what it is man, disappointing to say the least but.
I returned mine due to poor resolution and rendering. You may have had a fault headset. Will see if my replacement is any better
Corded.
Cute.
🤣
