I was born in 1950, so, yes, i grew up when Christmas was different then now. I don't know how families back in those days celebrated, but i'm pretty sure it wasn't with a phone constantly in their hand (or near by) or a video game playing or whatever. I know when the Christmas season was upon us (we started around the first week in December), we bought a real tree, decorated it, and put our presents under the tree. As kids, Christmas Eve meant the arrival of Santa. As my brother and i got older, it became the joy of giving gifts rather then receiving. Our grandparents would read the Christmas story from their very worn out Bible (grandpa was a minister), we'd sing Christmas songs, go to our church's Christmas Eve service, then Christmas morning, we would open our gifts, cook the delicious food, enjoy family togetherness at the table, then, (of course), clean up, followed by relaxing the rest of the day. Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, and Perry Como were our favorites to listen, too, with Andy being our favorite weekly show.

Watching the annual Andy Williams Christmas Special on TV was an absolute must-watch in our home every year, as well as the Christmas shows of Perry Como, and Bing Crosby. Andy always had his real-life family on, including his wife Claudine, his little children Noelle, Christian and Robert, his parents, his 3 brothers (with whom he had a singing act starting in boyhood and into adulthood), and all of THEIR wives and kids. It was the most wholesomd and heartwarming thing ever. Oh, also, a yearly guest was The Osmond Brothers, the youngest of whom was Donny Osmond, eho you may have heard of. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and I miss the innocence of that time.

To me, it's not Christmas if I don't hear this song! He had such a beautiful voice and sang other hits.
Thanks Michael, this song brings back such wonderful memories!

Oh, my goodness, Michael, where to I start with this one! I was lucky enough to be a kid in the 1960's and listen to this wonderful music! Andy Williams had a Christmas special on TV every year, that the whole family looked forward to and watched. This was a time when you still had to get up and manually change the channel on the TV, LOL!! Christmas's were just magical back then. The mailbox full of Christmas cards. Going out caroling with friends in the snow. People went "visiting" with family and friends back then at Christmas and throughout the year. People made their own fun and did not have to have a lot of material things to do it. I still try to keep the magic alive every Christmas season and know I am blessed to have lived during such a special time. Merry Christmas to you!! 🎄

Andy has a truly beautiful voice. You should listen to his version of "Ave Maria," which he often sang at Christmas time. It is stunning.

Andy and Bing did annual Christmas specials. In the last one Bing Crosby did, he sang a duet with David Bowie. It is a must see if you're going to review these type of videos for Christmas. It's called Peace On Earth / The Little Drummer Boy and it's wonderful.

As a viewer who is 60+ years old, I find it amazing that anyone could grow to adulthood without hearing this song before. It was a staple when I was growing up. It is one of the songs that my parents had playing in the house at Christmastime, and is a song that I have in my house at Christmastime. My mother had his Christmas album.

Andy Williams was one of the most popular singers of the 1960s. He has a lot of hits. He had a variety show from 1966-74. Every year he would do a Christmas special. This video is probably from one of his specials. This was his signature Christmas song. He also sang a lot of traditional Christmas songs. "Moon River" is his regular signature song. Johnny Mathis "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" is another great Christmas song.

The Osmonds basically got their start on his weekly show. In the early 60s. He was also in a band with his brothers at one time. Sad that today's generation doesn't know the music of this era. Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Johnny Mathis and many more. They would do Christmas specials every year and sing these special songs. Great times growing up in the '60s.

No grunge looks by performers back in the 50s and 60s. One of our favorite entertainers. Songs just seemed to be happier back then!

You should listen to his song “Happy Holiday/It’s the Holiday Season”.
A lot of singers put out Christmas albums or singles back in the sixties. My parents had some that they played throughout the season. Another classic is Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song”.

I watched this when it originally aired. Andy Williams was amazing! It seems like Christmas in the 60's was more magical, but maybe that is just because I was a kid. I don't know, but life in general seemed better in the 60's and 70's. Glad you enjoyed this, Michael!

Andy was a classic "crooner". If you like the voice then please check out the songs Lonely Street and Can't Get Used To Losing You. And.........this was back when people could actually sing. I would think he would have been singing about Christmas's in the 40' and 50's given his age.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is the scary ghost story he references in the song. I remember when this aired on tv for the first time. I was 5 years old. I'm 62 now and you are right. Christmas is different as a youngster because you haven't experienced life. Once you do, nothing is the same and you can't get it back because you've lost your innocence. Christmas now and Christmas then has two differences. The cost of making a child happy is expensive and the children now (with some exceptions) are rude, hostile, and ungrateful.

    Best 78 in the house.
& For commenters that don't understand that statement. This math problem provides the answer. - Why does 78 come before 45?

To me, Johnny Mathis owns this song. I never warmed to Andy Williams. He had an undeniably good voice, but I always compared it to a classic anchorman’s voice. It never moved me.
