GenX here. Andy was the BEST! Him and Elvis are my favorites. Andy has the best “pipes” of any singer! ❤❤❤❤❤. I have his autograph : )))
No auto tune just pure talent.
He's so smooth. I've never heard him sing anything bad. I'm glad you are bringing this music to younger people.
He was great with the Boomers parents. When Andy Williams was young, we only had 3 channels on our black & white TV’s, so the whole families would watch him sing. He was one of the greatest singers in those days along with Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby. 💜💜
Aw, you are so right because my late Hubby was a Boomer and he said his Mom adored Andy! I'm 57, and he was also a HUGE fave of my parents growing up, as was Tony Bennet, Sinatra, Sammy Davis, etc. I remember as a little girl being so smitten with Andy, he had such beautiful eyes and that voice!!! He just gives me chills and goosebumps each and every time! I can't wait til u guys get to the Christmas songs, he sings them so beautifully!!! Blessings to Jay and Amber and their family, as well as the Rob Squad Fam for a Merry Christmas! 🙏🏽💞🎄
How many great guests Andy had on his show! I was more a rock and roller but boy could that guy sing! I was part of those whole families.
Yes I also remember the days of 3 channels (4 if the weather was right) and black and white TV's. Sunday night TV with my parents. Good old days. 😂❤✌🇨🇦
We wore out out Andy Williams' LPS! I adore his voice, as did my parents!
You hit the nail right on the head I grew up watching only three channels which to this day seems to blow my kids Minds apart LOL but I grew up watching Andy Williams Hee Haw Lawrence Welk these were shows that I enjoyed and now that I'm old bring back good memories but I'm getting off track I hope they react to Andy Williams Hawaiian wedding song, the Days of Wine and Roses and my favorite Moon River if they haven't already
This video clip was from "The Andy Williams Show" which was a weekly variety show. FYI... Andy Williams was the one who introduced the Osmond Brothers to the American TV audience. At first it was just the 4 older brothers... Donny was still too young... but later Donny and then Marie joined in appearances on the show. Andy always had a Christmas Special show where he brought his family on to sing with him and other guests like the Osmonds ... Andy's older 3 brothers were a family singing group just like the Osmonds when they were younger, but Andy turned his talent into a solo singing career. The Osmonds always made an appearance to either do a solo or duet with Andy once they got popular. There are a few videos on YT that show them performing together.
I remember when the Osmond brothers were on, little Donny (or maybe it was Jay when he was the youngest one) would always know where the camera was and he would look directly into the lens. The cameramen would switch cameras and then focus on Donny, and sure enough it would only take a few seconds for his head to turn and find the new camera. I loved that christmas show, watching his kids grow up and seeing the 4 Williams brothers sing together was a family tradition.
Andy Williams never met a note he couldn't hit perfectly and hold for as long as he darn well wanted. 😍🥰 PLEASE listen to him sing O Holy Night and Ave Maria live. Transcendent experiences.
Absolutely!
Andy Williams' voice is pure gold. For me he is equal to the likes of Sinatra and Bennett.
Better, I think. Along with Matt Monro.
Politics aside, when the President of the United States calls you a "National Treasure" as Reagan called Andy Williams, that's pretty cool. His voice is honey.
And I much prefer him to either of those or Perry Como. I think Andy had the best voice.
Andy Williams
1. Born Free ( movie theme , watch the movie too)
2. Love Story ( theme)
3. A Time For Us
If you want to listen to 'Born Free' you should listen to the original by the singers singer Matt Monro
They already listened to Moon River and loved it..
Hawaiian Wedding Song!
Speak Softly Love - The Godfather Theme
"Cant Get Used To Losing You". Andy Williams live.
Oh please do it!
That's his best and was later covered well by The English Beat in I think 1981.
Andy Williams voice is just so smooth and easy. He was one of my dear Dad's favourite singers and we chose Happy Heart as his entrance music at his funeral. So many happy memories of my Dad listening to Andy Williams LP's, thanks for featuring him again.
Oh my goodness. I love Andy Williams .🥰
The Andy Williams Show in the '60s was one of the best variety shows ever.
This song was the theme song for the movie “the Sandpiper” with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton… Great movie as well, beautiful song❤
The musical theme for the film was performed by the MGM orchestra with a solo trumpet by Jack Sheldon… worth checking out.
One of my favorite movies
I was looking in the window of a fashion shop on the Kings Road in London in the 1970s, when Andy Williams came out of the door with his wife. He saw me looking and said hello as he passed . . I have never forgotten it because he was such a huge star.
Great reaction and interpretation. Andy Williams’ voice makes me want to melt. Pure class. This particular song is phenomenal.
I love Andy Williams. Christmas songs especially. My favorite is I Can’t Get Over Losing You, but anything, really.
I forgot about "Can't Get Over Losing You." I really like that one, too. It's got a different tempo from Andy's other songs.
A slight correction.....it's 'Can't Get Used To Losing You'. One of my favorites too. As an aside, The Beat (AKA The English Beat) did a ska flavored cover of this song in 1980.
@@neptune9 Oops... you're right. Thanks.
Can’t Get Over Losing you is my favorite too.
Check out "Holly".... a very underrated gem that resonated more in the uk.
Perry Como is my favorite Christmas Crooner! But Bing Crosby and Andy Williams aren't far behind.
What was also awesome about the Andy Williams Show was that all the singing was live ! No lip syncing, no mic in hand but as he’s walking throughout the set , you can see shadows of the boom mic overhead following him . Love it!! You guys are on the right track, more Andy please
His voice is like butter. It is so smooth. My mom loved him. It's sad all of those singers from those days or should I say "Crooners" are gone now and there will never be singers like them again. That's why it's good to be able to listen to music like this to take you back so you can relive those times again.
Have you heard of Michael Buble? He is an amazing singer that does a great job of many of these songs
@@6916dog You're right. He does sound good
Surprisingly, Seth MacFarlane has recorded albums of standards in the crooner style.
Tony Danza
"On the Street Where You Live" is one of my very favorite Andy Williams's performances. Gorgeous!
Great song from the great musical My Fair Lady
One of my favorites ❤
Johnny Mathis!!
All day, every day - my mom ADORED him!!
He definitely improved over time and developed a respectable tenor voice. The songs of that era are irreplaceable.
Andy Williams Christmas Albums were some of the best. His TV show as always worth watching.
I remember so little from my childhood yet a clear memory I have is of an Andy Williams Christmas special where he was singing to one of his kids who was just a baby and the baby fell asleep! Precious!
Goodness, there are no coincidences! I hadn't heard this in 40 years but just this past week couldn't get this one out of my head. Such a gorgeous tune. Love the live version.
Here's a suggestion:
George Benson
Turn Your Love Around
Great bass line
Robust horn section
And the great voice of George Benson
Cant go wrong with that!
I grew up on his Christmas Specials ❤
He sang a lot of Henry Mancini songs ❤❤
I think my favorite Andy Williams song, and he has many great ones, is a little ditty called "Can't Get Used to Losing You". Staccato strings!!
Jay/Amber, you'll Love his "(Where Do I Begin?) Love Story", "Born Free" and "Music to Watch Girls By"!!!
He hosted The Andy Williams Show, a television variety show for 9 years, so we heard a lot of him back in the day.
edit- Born Free and Love Story were also movies, 1966 and 1970 respectively.
Yes yes yes, a beautiful song and a super hit from the movie of the same name.
And Moon River
@@thomasflynn5366 Moon River was their first Andy Williams reaction
Always loved Born Free. Wonderful movie too.
Andy Williams pretty much "discovered" the Osmond Brothers and featured them on his weekly TV show.
Robert Goulet sang many Christmas songs, my family had a favorite album by him that we played on Christmas Day
You now got a feel for my parents music era..and spot on with the reaction
Lou Rawls also does a great rendition of this song.
Andy Williams was such a fine singer. I grew up watching his show.
I 2nd Lou Rawls!!
He introduced the Osmond Family to the world. They appeared on his show in the late 60's all the time.
Can't Get Used to Losing You, is my favourite song by him. The violins are awesome.
The Osmonds first appeared on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Disney - but Andy introduced them to a wider and older audience - well done. that man!
Robert Goulet is an another singer that you will really like. He had an amazing voice and was easy on the eyes! He starred, along with Julie Andrew’s and Richard Burton, in the Broadway production of Lerner and Loewe’s “Camelot” about King Arthur! If Ever I Would Leave You is his signature song.
Andy Williams had a great voice. Along with Matt Monro, two of the best crooners on the age.
My favourite Andy Williams songs are Butterfly and Moon River. My favourite Christmas song sung by Andy Williams is It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.
I remember Moon River as his signature song.
@@valeriemoore2762 Johnny Mercer what a talent.
I cannot ever tell you how much i love Andy Williams, an amazing tenor voice. I have much vinyl of him from many years ago. The Osmonds were always on Andys Show on TV, and I KNOW how much you love them .
Im so grateful to have grown up with this music. The quality of their vocals is something that you just dont hear today.
That voice control is so subtle and powerful at the same time. Damn.
Nat King Cole - Straighten Up And Fly Right
Bobby Darin - Beyond The Sea
Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice
Frank Sinatra - Strangers In The Night
Sarah Vaughan - Body And Soul
CHILL BUMPS on that last note he held....OMG - he was SOOOOOOOOOOOO SMOOTH!!! Love Andy Williams! My Mom got me stuck on him, and I've loved him: ever SINCE! SO GLAD ya'll enjoy crooners....THANKS, YA'LL, for just being ya'll and ENJOYING GOOD MUSIC!! There is NO ONE, now days, that I can think of off the top of my head, barring Buble, that has anything CLOSE to these GOLDEN TONES!! ❤❤❤❤
Did you know Buble uses Autotune?
@@snowbirdlady7221 BUMMER!! 🙄
Got a little choked up - my Dad used to sing this all the time to my mum Both gone now. Thanks for the memory prompt. ❤
This song from the movie, The Sandpiper (Liz Taylor and Richard Burton), won a Grammy for Best Song of the Year and an Oscar. It was everywhere and every crooner sang it, including Tony Bennett who released it as a single. Barbra Streisand also sang it and there was also a popular instrumental version. If you are listening to Christmas songs on the radio, chances are you are hearing a lot of Andy Williams, but Moon River is his most famous song (from Breakfast at Tiffany's) and his weekly TV show opened with a few bars from it.
I suggest "The Impossible Dream" by Andy Williams, it's fantastic.
A beautiful Bossa nova done superbly by Andy Williams. Tony Bennett (Frank Sinatra's favorite singer) does a great version and had a hit with it.
I’ve always loved crooners, male and female, and Andy is one of the best. I always loved him even when it wasn’t “cool”. I have never understood people restricting music of any kind. From classical to heavy metal it’s always good.
Andy Williams was of my parents' musical generation, so I grew up with his music. They don't write - or sing - like this anymore. Such a smooth sound. His Christmas albums are a must ("The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", "The Christmas Song"). He popularized so many iconic songs: "Moon River", "Almost There" ♥ (you have to listen to that one!), "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing", oh, my we could go on.........
That song is so beautiful, it’s hard to go wrong. Sinatra does a live version that is lovely. (My favorite Andy Williams song is Dreamsville. GORGEOUS!)
Saw Andy's Christmas show in Branson in the late 90's. What a great show. Andy was a terrific vocalist and entertainer. RIP.
"Can't Get used To Losing You" is another great song by Andy Williams, as well as the original version by Chad and Jeremy
Another few more Andy Williams songs to check out are: "I Can't Get Used To Losing You", "Music To Watch Girls By", and his cover of the Frankie Valli song, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You".
FYI: Tony Bennett did the original version of "The Shadow Of Your Smile". It was a song from the movie THE SANDPIPER. It has been covered by Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Perry Como and Englebert Humperdinck.
For some reason I always associate this song with another '60s movie theme, "The Windmills of Your Mind," which was featured in the original 'Thomas Crown Affair' (1968).
As a child I loved Andy Williams, I’m 64 now and I still love his voice
Thank-you, thank-you! I've loved Andy Williams since I was a teenager 50 years ago. His most enchanting, pull-you-away-to-a-whole-other world song? Once Upon A Time. It's like playing a movie in your head and you'll never, ever forget this one, I promise. Thanks again--you two are a delight!
Folks of a certain age will always relate to the Andy Williams TV show, with a bunch of fun sketches and amazing guests. The Osmomds got their first exposure as a regular feature, and who can forget the Bear. His personal talent was amazing, and smoother than silk. ✌️
With Christmas coming, listen to Andy Williams sing "Do You Hear What I hear" on one of his Christmas albums. We also had Bing Crosby, Johnny Matthis, and Barbra Streisand's Christmas albums in my house growing up
Williams`` had that special tone in his voice that made it unique .
I used to hear my Mom playing Andy Williams' albums when I was a kid. She was also a big fan of heavenly crooner Johnny Mathis. You've reacted to a couple of his songs, but he has a treasure trove catalog to explore as well.
Like I've stated before. The best crooner Andy Williams.
You should definitely do Do You Hear What I Hear? Bing Crosby, O Holy Night, Celine Dion, Amy Grant, Josh Groban, Andy Williams, Carpenters, Gene Autry, Johnny Mathis, Brenda Lee, Nat "King" Cole, Dean Martin and countless others all do great renditions of Christmas Songs.
Wow! 3 out of 3! You guys have hit out of the park today with your selection of the songs today.
This song was one of my late mother's favourite songs . She was an amazing jazz singer (which was quite rare here in India) and would sing songs of the crooners as well as divas like Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Nancy Wilson, etc.
Thanks for bringing a smile to my face. Love you guys....and love you mom......ALWAYS!!!!!
A great performer and had a most romantic voice.
In 1973, Andy Williams recorded a song called "I'll Never Be The Same". It was written by June Millington of the 1970's all-female band Fanny.
My mom's favorite singer. Andy had his own show back in the day. I'll never forget my mom kissing the TV screen. Love you mom. I sure miss you.
Love Andy Williams! So many songs all perfect . And a note- his father found the original Osmond brothers- the appeared on Andy’s tv show. And Donny and Marie were introduced on show. All kind of clips on you tube !
True and Jimmy was also introduced on Mr. Williams' show.
Look for Andy Williams singing "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" with Nancy WIlson. Magnificent duet!
One of my favorite Crooners and singers!!! I watched t he Andy Williams Show every Saturday night at 8:00 pm
Check out some more of Tony Bennet - when do the bells ring for me, the good life, fly me to the moon, steppin’ out, the way you look tonight, the best is yet to come, love for sale, the days of wine and roses with bill evans
Always great listening! I really think you'd love Gene Pitney. He has a different sound, but WOW the woefullness that he can put into a song. I recommend A Town Without Pity, 24 Hours from Tulsa, Only Love Can Break A Heart and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance! Do yourselves a favor and give him a listen! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My favorite of his for Christmas will always be “Sweet Little Jesus Boy”!!! His Christmas albums are always on my Christmas playlist, along with The Carpenter’s “Christmas Portrait”. The other of my favorites is Steve Perry’s Christmas album released in 2018 “The Season”. He was 69 when it was released.
Andy Williams’ former wife, Claudine Longet, had a beautiful but soft voice. My favorites of hers are “The Look of Love” and “Love is Blue”. Both beautiful tunes.
Andy Williams ended his shows with his family gathered around him. He wasn’t a member of the Rat Pack, he wasn’t a “bad guy” like Sinata.
Love Andy Williams. You should check out his song, Where Do I Begin from the movie Love Story. As for original Christmas performances, check out Charles Brown - Merry Christmas Baby and Please Come Home for Christmas: James Brown - Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto; Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime; Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree; Darlene Love (from the Phil Spector Xmas album) - Marshmallow World, and since you've played Darlene's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), U2 has a version of that. And for something different, The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Oh - and react to the move Love Story too!!!! Amber will cry her eyes out.
You'd asked one time about female crooners, and I think Etta James might apply, but I could not find that you have reacted to probably her greatest and most popular song, "At Last!" You wanna talk about a LOVE. SONG. We had that played after our wedding and I was cheesing so hard my face hurt!
A more modern crooner you might enjoy is Harry Connick Jr. "A Wink and A Smile" is one by him that I love a lot.
R.I.P To A Great Singer Andy Williams, Still Miss You, Always
He was very popular. Had a TV show in the US. Seen it here in OZ a few times.
....i watch his show with my g/ma 😊....he makes me happy .....
Tony Bennett did a version also. This is lovely. Watched all his holiday specials as there was just that one TV in the house at that time. A very warm memory just generated right now. Sigh. 80s Hair Bands? Well, you just made somebody smile, Jay! Thanks! Here's a crooner, believe it or not, for this song anyway. Ringo singing "Good Night" from the Beatles' White album. Thanks again.
I always liked Tony's version, too. Lush instrumentation and a soulful quality to it. Here's a link if anyone wants to check it out. czcams.com/video/mP2ZaQ7Wq24/video.html
One of the first Karen Carpenter vocal recordings is of Goodnight; she's singing lead with the Long Beach University Choir...
....i luv Andy Williams 😊 ..... yes&yes! .....
What a deep & sensitive analysis you made of his voice & the instrumentation. What people began to brand as "corny" is now so sorely missed now.
Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Perry Como... You're starting down quite a rabbit hole...Merry Christmas.
ANDY WILLIAMS "Happy Heart" is another great song by him
being born in 1955 and the youngest of 4 girls, I was lucky to have grown up on these songs as well as the 50's, 60's and 70's rock. The crooners are wonderful to hear and remind me of my parents!
His voice stayed beautiful even well into his 80s.
Dean Martin:
1. Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime
2. In The Misty Moonlight
As others have mentioned, it was Andy that introduced The Osmond's to the world. Andy had his own show back in the late 60s & 70s, and every Christmas he did a holiday special and have The Osmond's on. At first Donny was too young to go on, so it was just the older 4 brothers that did the shows. As soon as he was old enough he was doing the shows, and even then he was only about 4/5 years old! They looked adorable in their little barber quartet suits.
More great songs by Andy are.... "Can't Get Used To Losing You" "Born Free" & "My Eyes Adored You"
Love Andy Williams, great voice! Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, so many!!!
I LOVE THIS SONG AND HIS VOICE !!!!!!
My parents loved him so I grew up listening to him …❤️❤️❤️…and how handsome was he 😊
I've heard this song since I was a child and it never fails to move me to tears!
One thing you might not know is ROD STEWART has a bunch of CDs out called the great American Story Book.. He sings all the old crooner classics.
Don't forget that in addition to his incredible vocals, he introduced The Osmonds to the rest of the country. And that was a few years before the Jackson 5.
My mother’s favorite singer! My mom is forefront in my memory this time of year because she baked amazing cookies; so every year since she passed, I bake cookies from her recipes. She would listen to Andy Williams and Perry Como music and bake!! Andy Williams always seems so serious; for a completely different side, you should check out a young Ray Stevens doing the song”Along Came Jones”, accompanied but Andy Williams and Danny Thomas on Andy’s tv show; it’s a hoot!!❤❤❤❤❤
There is no one that can sing like Andy! I told my hubby that if he were available, (alot of years ago) that I would leave him for Andy! Just kidding of course, but I used to listen to him as a child! Love him to death! So smooth!!! Andy Christmas specials were the best!
Ha! Got it right. This old gal's memory is still working. I haven't heard this song in at least 55 years easy. And when I saw the song title, that tune went through my head. Andy Williams sure had a beautiful voice.
Andy Williams was such a family favorite, especially at Christmas.
His version of Moon River is a must
He was such a great singer. My husband attended the same high school that Andy Williams did (Western Hills HS in Cincinnati, Ohio). Andy was once his favorite singer.
Andy got his start as part of an act with his brothers.
Andys Most Wonderful Time of the year is my favourite 😍
Andy Williams sang the Christmas classic "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year". One of my favorite commercials was the Staples back-to-school ad with the sad kids and the ecstatic Dad shopping for school supplies with this song as the theme.
This song is the theme song from a movie called The Sandpiper that starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. There was a lot of latin influence in pop music in the 60s, especially Bossa Nova.
Awesome song and singer. He has some great Christmas songs.
CHRISTMAS ANDY WILLIAMS!!
1. HAPPY HOLIDAYS
It is a beautiful tune, the winner of the Oscar for Best Original Song as well as a Grammy for Song of the Year and Andy's version was the most successful but it has been covered by dozens of artists including several that are strictly instrumental. One of the best is by a young Barbra Streisand on her early album My Name is Barbra, Two.
