@@jhonyermoyou know, that song was written after MLK was assassinated but Bobby was assassinated just before he recorded the song. The verse about Bobby was added just before recording but they forgot to add RFK's name to the title. Sad tune that makes me tear up everytime I hear it. The 60's... GREAT Music/tumultuous times.

Thanks for the memories of my father. He had his own band for over 50 years. He loved music. He always played this song. He loved the 50's and 60's. He had a great bunch of groupies. You definitely made me smile ❤️
As far as I know, a groupie is a lady of what we used to call easy virtue, who made herself available to members of bands or their entourage.
Groups of them were often invited to parties or just invited backstage for se*ual pleasures - is that really what you meant, as it certainly made me smile reading it ?

@@samolevski1119being someone that works security for concerts, we consider groupies super fans that will follow a performer to different shows or just hang out before the show starts and after the show…..no strings attached. They spend a lot on merch and can tell you almost anything you might want to know about the artist. I would even call Deadheads and the fans that follow Billy Strings around groupies. Also both male and female fans, not just the ladies.
Dion did Abraham, Martin and John. A very, very moving song that'll bring a tear to your eye.

This song always kind of reminded me of Ricky Nelson's "Travelin' Man..." different style of music, but same theme.

"The Wanderer" was the song that we always danced the "Stroll" to! You need to watch a video of teens dancing the Stroll.

This song was based on a guy in the Italian New York neighbourhood of the Bronx Dion met a few times. The guy literally had Rosie and Mary tattoos on his chest!

I saw Jerry Lee Lewis at Knotts berry farm in Cali back in the late 80's, I remember him singing great balls of fire and yes indeed he could play the piano with his feet! Great time, first official concert lol, even if it wasn't the reason we were there lol

Dion was indeed the first artist to record+chart the classic song "Abraham, Martin, and John" (1968), but the song was actually written by Richard (Dick) Holler (who also wrote "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron").

@@aiavecchia Holler was in the process of finishing up the song when Robert Kennedy was killed, which led to his name gets mentioned right near the end.
Marvin's version was better. IMO.
@alanmusicman3385 He had a beautiful rendition...more orchestral in sound. I grew up/loved Marvin Gaye. But the haunting version by Dion is what I heard most often...just different interpretations.
Both of your reactions were priceless!! Ruby Baby is one of my favorites. When looking at the audience I can't help but think that all of the women are thinking "He's a project I can get into" and the guys are thinking "Yeah, I wish I was that guy".
The Doo Woop was really awesome music. Very amazing vocals.
I heard him in an interview once saying this song was loosely based on a guy from his neighborhood who was or had been a sailor. He said the guy had the name of every girl he had dated or been with tattooed somewhere on his body which is what he meant when he said I tear open my shirt I got Rosie on my chest. Lol it's her name Tattooed on his chest.

Greetings from diamond city, even in 2287 this song is still a hit.
Dion ....you don't get more early 1960s than this. I remember my sister and her friends "jiving" to this.
I am a 77 year old woman and we had such fun back then, we used to go to dances and sing along, have pop and burgers and everything was so sweet and innocent and such fun.

Ya know, Dion was also featured on a song called "When the Radio is On" by Paul Shaffer, the guy who was the band leader for David Letterman back in the day. And do you know who else was on that song? Will Smith! I'm not making this up!

I am 61 yrs of age and i find you all a whole lotta fun watching. You two bring back memories of how my friends and i use to behave. Its like we all are a part of the same group. This song came out in 1960-1961 a long time before the 70's. I guess you were listening to an oldies radio station.

I do love Amber's reactions to certain songs, when she's listening to the lyrics, or hearing powerful notes sung, or when horns are played.
He wrote this song about a real guy in his Italian neighborhood as an impressionable teenager. "We all looked up to him.... I know, it's CRAZY, but we did." And he laughed. Cool Guy.

Started in the 60s with Dion and the Belmonts… Wonderful hits wonderful memories. Moved into the 70s on his own and again wonderful hits one wonderful memories! And he’s still with us thank goodness❤

The lyrics have not aged well. However, this is one of my favourite melodies and it takes me right back to riding in a 55 black Ford with this blasting on the radio as my dad drove us to get ice cream cones on the weekend. I love this song. The instrumental in the middle actually reminds me of a car changing gears when it drops down into another chord. Love this song. Amber, that was priceless. Lol.

Dion is such a gentleman, smooth talker and performer. What a A class act and I always love when people get to hear his music for the first time.
It cracks me up to hear these songs as an adult. I used to sing these from my mom's records when I was 4 or 5 years old and had NO clue what on earth the lyrics were about. Haha!
Dion started out with the Belmonts doing street corner doo-wop. Check out "Teenager In Love" from 1959.
Then he went solo and "The Wanderer" came soon thereafter. A year or two later he came out with ""Ruby Baby" starting to show more of his bluesy side. Check out either Dion's version of "Ruby Baby" or the fantastic harmonies on the version released by Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan) in the early 80s.

Notice the 120 beats per minute? On long marches (5 miles or more) we would sing adaptations of his songs. First Sergeant Vandiver and his East Texas/Louisiana drawl made the songs a joy to be part of.

This was always a fun song by Dion so I am pleased you had a chance to hear it! From the same era you should react to "Duke Of Earl" by Gene Chandler. Not only is it a great song but it was referenced in Billy Joel's song "Keeping The Faith" which you just reacted to!

My cousin had a Red Mustang in the mid-60's. He wrote "The Wanderer" in enormous white paint letters across the whole front hood.

Dion & his group The Belmonts started out in the late 50's-60's. They had some hits including "I Wonder Why", "No One Knows", "A Teenager In Love" & "Where Or When". Dion went solo & had some big hits such as "Ruby Baby", "Lonely Teenager", "Donna The Prima Donna" ,"Drip Drop", "Lovers Who Wander", "Little Diane" & "Abraham, Martin & John".
The Wanderers is also the name of a very cool movie. This song figures prominently because it is the theme song for the gang (The Wanderers)
When i was 15 one of the dj's at the skating rink played this and it quickly became a rink favorite! The entire rink would line up and we had a routine to it!! Many years after it came out!!!

I recently found out he was the first to record "One Way Ticket (To The Blues)", a song I know from the British disco band Eruption.

called The Dell Satins, who eventually provided Johnnie Maestro with two of it's

My brother had a 1957 Ford that had "The Wanderer" painted on it. This song got revived when Mel Gibson sang it in "Chicken Run." That was a great movie and surprisingly, Mel didn't wear any makeup when he made the movie. Believe me, he sure looked different without makeup. I would love to see your reaction to it.
Dion was part of the original rock n roll movement in the 50's with the Belmonts he played along side Ritchey valens buddy Holly and the big bopper the same night they died in the horrific accident Ritchie was too be bigger than elvis at 17 he had the voice of a angle when he passed elvis took his gf Donna on a dinner date and all he asked about was Ritchie
The video game Fallout 4 used this song in a trailer and it remains my favorite video game trailer ever, just because of how beautifully the music fit with the game (for those unaware, in the Fallout franchise you play as the Lone Wanderer in a post-apocalyptic wasteland).

Fun upbeat song. Those of us who grew up in the 60's will always remember Dion for Abraham, Martin, and John. Definitely Dion's crowning achievement. It's hard for others to know what it was like during those tumultuous times, but this song will give you a better feel for it in 3 minutes than most history classes. btw, bring a box of kleenex.

Don’t pigeonhole Dion as only a 60’s performer, he is still making great music. Joe Bonamassa and Dion recently released a Blues album together.
Happy to say I have seen both of them perform.
