    Finally someone says it! I feel like so many people consider Cats & Dogs essential for Sims 4, and I genuinely forget I have it all the time and always forget to have a pet, and then when I do, I'm reminded why I don't love it and it's because it doesn't compare to their previous Pets packs. I used Pets ALL the time in Sims 3 . Loved the horses, adored the countryside vibes of Appaloosa Plains (Brindleton Bay just can't compare imo), and overall I just liked the gameplay and experience more. Wish Cats & Dogs had just been Pets and was similar to Sims 3 Pets but oh well.

    I was playing the sims 4 for a couple of days now and I was pretending(yes because that's what you can do) that my vampire sim was getting married to the resident playboy Don Lothario. For a while I was okay with the game and then I started to notice the laginess, it was annoying but I continued playing. Then I started taking pictures and I got frustrated because I learned their was no family photos and majority of photos were locked behind a pay wall. I got so unbelievably frustrated because it really felt cash grabby that they had photos locked behind a dlc. Then what made me straight up so angry that I didn't feel like playing anymore was realizing that no matter how much I pretended my sims relationships weren't that deep. What I mean by that is that Don Lothario was supposed to have a rocky relationship with my vampire sims father, because the father didn't really like his soon to be son-in law. Spoiler alert there's in base game that can help make their relationship seem rocky, other than buying the newest dlc growing together, because the sims team decided that players should pay for meaningful relationships. The icing on the cake was when I tried to do a basic basegame wedding cermony. There was no caterer(since the sims were vampires), no dj, no drinks nothing, but the arch and seats. The sims couldn't even do that simple task. At that point I lost all motivation to continue playing(there were a couple of other things I didn't mention), but all this to say I came to the conclusion that E.A. really loves cutting corners and then revisiting those corners and making you pay for them, it's frustrating. Sorry for the long rant.

    • @dzizs03
      @dzizs03 Před rokem +6

      your rant is totally justified and I completely understand that sentiment. picture this tho, you actually do get those dlcs that are supposed to bring that depth you're looking for. except they don't. you get a bunch of new stuff in bb and cas, sure, some new gameplay features, but the feeling of emptiness is still there. bc the sims 4 is just that bad in its core. even with all those sentiments you get from growing together, you can still feel the sims' personalities and relationships being superficial, like a bandaid. in sims 2, almost 20y ago, you knew exactly how don lothario is, and his personality, history, memories, skills, relationships and actions ALL reflected that. the sims who knew him all seemed to know it as well and acted accordingly. you were able to get unique scenarios to play out depending on which path you choose for him in the game. sims was magic back in the day.

    I hate how people say they don't want seasons, pets or even FAMILY related gameplay in the base game (do I need to remember The Sims is supposed to be a life simulator?) just because they wouldn't have much depth. Well, they actually should be free updates, not extra packs, that actually exists to add stuff like occults or vacation related themes (that aren't necessarily fundamental for a life simulation game). But yeah, people buy those shit, and Growing Together was actually a major hit among sells. So...

  • @MishelleRP
    @MishelleRP Před 10 měsíci +5

    5:55 If EA had to collaborate with Disney, they could have chosen the Tinkerbell saga and created fairies from each element they show, they could even have created a world where each neighborhood is for a different style for each fairy and its power, as well as creating at least two new festivities, such as the arrival of spring as in the first film and the arrival of winter with missions that we must do so that these festivities can be celebrated

  • @leaflenster7340
    @leaflenster7340 Před rokem +46

    Tbh I'd argue Paranormal isn't too cash grabby. It was actually really good for a stuff pack and with a bit more added to it could've been a solid game pack. Most of the other ones though, yeah, it's bullshit that things that were previously base game were made as paid DLC for S4.
    Dine Out imo is cash grabby simply for being a restaurant pack. Not sure why restaurants need to be paid for separately in a life simulator game, forget the fact that it was broken for its entire lifespan. Only recently did they start even fixing it.
    I love S4 (my first Sims game was Sims 2) but they really do upsell the dumbest things (dumb in the sense of it should not be paid DLC). Of course people buy the stuff because they want the full experience, but the packs aren't worth their base price. I only buy them on sale now. I think the only packs I actually bought at full price were Get Together and Outdoor Retreat, which was around when they were very new and back then I didn't know what we were getting for our money and there weren't really other packs to choose from. Granted, at the time I would say OR was worth it for me because I definitely got my use out of it at full price, and Get Together I probably at this point have used more than any other pack (including the world for it). I guess I'm lucky the first packs were actually pretty solid, because looking at everything we have now, there's no way at least half or more of them are worth full price.
    Like, 20 USD for an expansion pack I can handle. 40 though? For what we get out of it? Lelzies. I don't even know if I want Growing Together on sale because that pack in particular doesn't feel like it'd be worth 20 USD. I might buy it someday in the distant future when I have extra disposable income simply for the extra lots, but it'll be quite a while before I get it seeing as it's the latest pack and when the next one does come out, the one prior to it will only get a small discount.

    • @andrew-song
      @andrew-song Před rokem +7

      Honestly, Paranormal should be the precedent for future packs in terms of content to price ratio (whether they’re expansions, game packs, etc). There should be no reason something as mundane as laundry should be upsold as a stand alone pack, and not a feature of an expansion.

    Its funny because they could have very easily made My First Pet Stuff much less cash grabby, by simply expanding on the concept that is LITERALLY in the title of the pack. It would have been cute if people wanted pets but couldnt afford the 40$ pricetag. They could have added real fish, birds, turtles and even bunnies to that SP, instead of filing it with rejects from Cats and Dogs, and adding Cat and Dog clothes and accessories which is what ultimately makes it a DLC of a DLC (allegedly, in my opinion xD). It wouldve been adorable, but alas, the Sims 4 disappointed us AGAIN. No surprises there.

    i know sims players know that its a cash grabby game, but i dont think we realise how exactly cash grabby it is
    the amount of content in all these sims packs is about the amount of content which in any other game, would be an update. except in the sims you have to pay for this update, which is just horrific.
    most games have 1 or 2 bits of dlc for about $20 each max, but the sims has so much because instead of making updates, it makes the update dlc.
    the constant releasing of packs also gives the illusion that we are getting regular updates, when the base game gets more or less no updates ever and the company is just so greedy, that you have to pay for the updates!
    big examples are growing together, discover university and high school years, which feel like they just add more content to whats already supposed to be there, not a whole new experience, which is what dlc is supposed to be.
    some of the only packs which i think could genuinely be dlc in a regular game is island living, jungle adventure, snowy escape and all the occults (if they were in one pack), because they are some of the only packs that actually add a whole new experience that doesnt just fix up rabbit holes or what could have just been a base game update, behind a pay wall.
    i think we could help stop it by not buying too many packs, and stop feeding their fat pockets

    I think you've made a mistake with Paranormal Stuff though. It's not cashgrabby at all considering it's a stuff pack and has plenty of gameplay

  • @treefrog1018
    @treefrog1018 Před rokem +2

    I disagree as Paranormal being cash grabby. In fact, I would put it in the second tier. $10 ($7 on sale) for people who REALLY want Paranormal.
    ROM, Vampires, and Werewolves would be just as equally not cash grabby if they were all $5 game packs (which is why Paranormal is in the 2nd tier). I don't want Vampires and Werewolves but Spellcasters and Ghosts. I'd pay $10 for two occults I want. That's $30 for all the occults (if you count Mermaids and Aliens) for EA to mooch off their players. $35 if they ever add Faeries.
    Best deal: Make Base Game an Occult World that has nothing in it unless you buy the packs.
    (I just want worlds to build in)

    To me the most glitchy are horses now, and from career - the ghost hunter career. I can't play it. Once my client live in the flat my sim go there and either they stuck in the flat, they get worse at work because they can't catch all ghosts as some spawn in the area with no access to my sim or game freeze. Never had problems with dine out until I started add mods with scripts to my game recently so I decided to remove them and keep only mccc that I always had with no issues.

    6:08 I don't know about the others, but I feel that if EA was forced to make a game due to the agreement it had with Disney, they could have chosen another series that served better or adapted the sims, for example Tinker Bell, and the fairies for the game do not attract my attention, however, I feel that due to the history of the world they would have so many options to carry out with the theme that each fairy has a power in specific, even the world could be divided into neighborhoods that are related as the fairies of flowers, light, water in a region, the fairies of animals and construction in another and finally those of wind and snow in another región (In my mind the wind fairies would go with the snow fairies because winter usually starts with freezing blizzards), also they could have even made a festival that shows the beginning of spring like in the movie and another festival for the beginning of winter, I don't know something like that, But the company ended up choosing Star Wars for the pack that doesn't match the game at all

    • @shaunholt
      @shaunholt Před 8 měsíci

      I think the worst thing is the game is totally an ad for a theme park. If you're doing Star Wars in Sims, do all the costumes from the series for Create A Sim, have an X-wing and a TIE-fighter for vehicles (well, won't matter much for Sims 4), have the Millennium Falcon as a residence, have pre-built characters e.g. Luke, Han, Leia, Anakin, Jar-Jar. Have lightsaber duels and laser tag. Have an Empire career track, Rebel career, Smuggler career. And then maybe have a Batuu vacation world.
      But I know that's far too much effort and content for EA. But it'd actually be liked by fans, and that means people would want to buy it.

    Growing together being released right after infants was extra cash grabby bc they knew that they were making infants deliberately boring so if you wanted to do all the fun stuff with them you’d have to buy the pack (and probably let us get confused ab what was part of the free update and what was part of the EP on purpose)

  • @Mikaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
    @Mikaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Před 11 měsíci

    Honestly I think next year should be the year of reworks (having it being a ten year anniversary) , giving packs more content, fixing gameplay, and listening to the customers , OR having modders come to ea team .

    the issue with kits is: ts4 started with an insane amount of DLC, especially stuff packs, but in exchange they got rid of the annoying cashgrabby sims 3 store. now with kits, sims 3 store is basically back, because i guess EA missed how much money it made them

  • @tmf866
    @tmf866 Před rokem +1

    Batuu: It's too expensive and not well implemented. It's just like part of Disney World. If you like Disney World and you want your sims to visit it, if you can get it at a good sale price it may be worth it for that. I got it on sale, and I sorta like it for what it is - and I knew what I was getting when I bought it. Some of the CAS is fun, some of the build stuff is fun, I sorta enjoy seeing it, and I sometimes have my sims go for drinks at the bar there. I'm not gonna say it's very good, but if you know what you're getting and there's a good sale, it may be worth it to you.

    growing together is one of the worst I think, like I can just tell how tempted they were to lock infants behind the pack. And honestly they might aswell have done because of how useless they are in base game, like I did not want for my sims to leave baby bottles and diapers (because there's no base game changing table) all over the floor, and a new life stage thats basically a more annoying baby is just not needed. I feel like they only put infants in as a teaser to try get people to buy it to fix them. One of the most annoying things is the top-notch infant trait, which base game seeing as they have no milestones, you get it instantly and for some reason it seems to glich out the top-notch toddler trait, so you can't earn that unless you cheat it on.

    Lol I disagree but mostly in regards to Satch's more favourable choices. Spa day - even after the refresh it's still to me a very bleh pack for gameplay and should have been a stuff pack. City living is window dressing - the festivals are empty, irritating events. I wouldn't put it at the bottom but certainly not on Cottage living level perhaps down a few. Also Get together deserves more love than it ever gets. It's world, it's build and I mean architecture and the clubs are all very expansion pack worthy.
