As a video game adaptation, Fallout is much more impressive due to them just using the universe and making their own story. Loved the last of us show but that seemed like an easier slam dunk as long as they stuck to the story
Precisely. The team at HBO did fantastic work on TLoU, but Kilter/Nolan had a much taller task with adapting Fallout.
This is funny. I remember prior to TLOU (HBO) releasing, the discussion was that what made the story special was the fact that it was a video game and that if you turn it into a tv show, it becomes another generic zombie show. Now it's looked at as a slam dunk.
@@Mr8T1 Exactly. We already had like umpteen seasons of Walking Dead, iZombie, yadda yadda. What was TLOU going to do that was new? It is beautiful and well produced of course, but even if you hadn't played the game before, I feel like it doesn't have anything unique to say. "Humans are the real monsters" is the only theme that is being used in these and it's just so massively overdone.
@@shadowflar3 "Humans are the real monsters" is not the theme of the last of us lmao. We also have a million different post-apocalyptic shows so if you want to be reductionist we can also easily shit on Fallout.
TLOU is the better show, hands down.
for me TLOU concentrate on relationships more than the world, it didnt seem dangerous, fallout is the opposite of that. id rather have a days gone adaptation and see those hordes running wild.
48:10 Blessing and Greg are forgetting Aloy is a clone of Elizabet Sobeck. Created by the Cauldron not born of a native character of that time period.
I think that Alan Ritchson would be an incredible Kratos. He has the size, the voice and the attitude too.
Scandalous; Blessing's hand gripping a mouse during the intro lol
Greg i’ll never forget your IGN SVR Reviews thats where i first heard of you it's amazing how far you have come!
Matthew McConaughey as Kratos 😂❤🎉
Push back for greg's comments about not missing out on Helldivers from the games rapid updates. With each major order or new enemy comes often new objectives during missions and they are vaulted at times. Of course it's all the same game loop, but you miss out on the shared community experience week to week.
Greg forgot to include the Ratchet & Clank movie in the list of PS Productions movies!! (and the Heavenly Sword movie from the same studio)
I believe those were under Sony Pictures. I think the first PlayStation Productions project proper is The Last of Us
@@furrybproductions Ah, I see now, Heavenly Sword and R&C were done under the "PlayStation Originals" name. That title card would then be used for PS Studios (the reflections in the sacred symbols)
For God of War, I think the best approach would be to make it animated. Invincible is already so successful as an animated show why wouldn’t it be possible for God of War. There’s so much in terms of spectacle and scale in those games, to do it live action I can’t imagine how much it would cost to actually make it look good.
54:10
I'd be all for this if Bald Roman Reigns wasn't such a cursed notion 😂
The Fallout Show is 10/10 and so much variety with dense character development and jaw dropping scenes. 👍🍷🍾🍸😎🍯🌶️🥃🍹🥐🍩🥥🍺🍺🍺

@@roseforyoubabeit’s a good show, go cry somewhere else
@@roseforyoubabeHe is only telling the truth
J. Cole? JERMAINE?! COLE?!
hahahah I love seeing this nonsense here
Hollywood Cole? The real is back? 🤣
I feel like the last of us show was far easier to get right than a fallout show. I’m shocked the fallout show is as good as it is.
I slightly disagree last of us has more of an audience therefore there is a lot more expectation on it, people play fallout and love fallout but not as much as TLOU so missing story beats dont hurt as much just my opinion...
@@slickstar96don’t agree with that at all, Fallout is definitely a more popular series.
@@slickstar96 While I do see what you mean, I think what the guy was talking about was more from a production side than from an expectations side.
TLoU is effectively already half a movie/show with it's extensive cutscenes and linear story, meaning that you have a much clearer idea of what to adapt. Tonally and design wise, it's also a much "simpler" IP to adapt, as just about everything is the real world but old and decayed. (Other than the Cordyceps). None of that is to say that TLoU was an easy project, or that they didnt do stellar work! But adapting Fallout was always going to be much trickier. Far more production straining elements, (as in a greater focus on things like mutated creatures, big power armour, wacky scifi stuff, underground vaults, vertibirds, ghouls etc....) and then youve also got the far more open ended narrative nature of the game to try and adapt. So while you might not have to worry about missing out certain fan favourite story moments in a new story adaption, you do have to worry about stepping on the labyrinthine existing lore that Fallout has, and also in a game that no two people will play the same way, and where many never even bother with the main story, how do you capture that feeling?
Ultimately both teams knocked it out of the park, but I'm kore flabbergasted that the Fallout team actually managed it.
@@slickstar96 Last of Us is a direct adaptation though. All the best parts of the show are the best parts of the games.
sony already achieved that with Twisted Metal series, what r u on about. That aint traditional TLOU. Hell twisted metal is 100x times less traditional like Fallout. So you could Easily Argue that pulling off twisted metal was more difficult than Fallout which had tons of story lore, backstories AND has the literal stories of the games to work off of . Twistedmetal barely had that and still PlayStation killed it with thae twisted metal show
Sony has won 2 for 2: meanwhile microsoft released the horrendous halo tv show.
Before you went wrestlers and Roman, I was like Braun Strowman is Kratos
I’m very interested in PlayStation Production’s projects coming.
I am most hopeful for the Ghost of Tsushima film. The news leading up to The Last of Us premiering felt like they were making all the right decisions. I don’t think Ghost has been the same way, but most of it sounds promising.
Gravity Rush seems the most interesting. I don’t know how it’s going to turn out, but at the very least I’m happy PlayStation is dipping into dormant IPs for their projects. I don’t expect this, but it feels like I could hope for a Boku no Natsuyasumi anime film.
Blessing was right on the money when he said the best video game adaptation of all time is Pokemon. And even if you want to try to make the argument of the Pokemon anime not being an adaptation, we still have an actual adaptation in the form of Pokemon Origins. The other best adaptations I've seen lately are Castlevania, Arcane, and the Super Mario Bros Movie.
I still want that week long 76 stream
I think Alan Ritchson from Reacher would make a great Kratos. He already has the build down. Probably the biggest celebrity besides the Rock and Cena. All he gotta do is go bald, throw some paint on him and practice a deep voice and were golden.
If God of War was an insane high budget action film with crazy good combat instructors, it would be better than a Tv show unless they can pull that off there too. They need to represent the size differences of characters there, that or do the Greek parts in movie form and the Norse as Tv.
The first few episodes of Fallout felt a bit messy to me. They nailed being out in the wasteland though, which kept me going. The last few episodes were truly great, everything comes together and set-ups a potentially amazing second season.
Tbf Roman wasn't really defending the title before either 😂
Kratos has to be an incredible actor. Roman as Kratos is an awful call. He's so much better than he used to be, but he is not an actor of the caliber needed for the nuance Kratos has to be able to have.
How do you incorrectly spell Kratos' name that many times? 😂
@@MelodicQuest hahahha One of those things where I have never seen it spelled out, and was saying to myself this doesn't feel right the whole time...
After looking up Erin Kellyman she has the right hair.... But the skin tone seems too dark when I think Aloy. I'm kinda thinking they will go with a different character than Aloy as a protagonist
I'd be way more confident in a Horizon TV show if it were closer to Fallout in being a new story set in the same world, but not using the same characters. Give a chance to expand things.
What about Hugh Jackman for Kratos
What about the Ratchet and Clank movie?
The quality between Sony’s games and Sony’s movies is night and day. I really hope they get some right… TLOU is the only thing worth rewatching from their PS studios
I do not acknowledge Roman Reigns as Kratos
It... already has? What a strange framing question.
(hell fallout is kinda just peacock's twisted metal but with way more of a budget because it's on amazon and not peacock)
Except it’s 10x better
I personally think the place Arrowhead is failing for me with HD2 is the overall reward system for the game. The incentive to log in waned for me recently mixed with increased difficulties, lowering the specs of good weapons to make the game harder . I just think they need to let off the gas of the punishment of players. Its getting not fun to play a large percentage of the time and the new warbond is a consensus flub. I see a lack of growth in stratagems/items in general keeping me from logging in these days. I hope Joel can stop being a dick some days and release the good stuff. I need a fuckin sword ya jabroni!
fallout is impressive in every regard. its an original story in a games universe that expands on the story. there is no "hero" in fallout. they gave us 3 new MCs to follow and although only 2 of them are awesome they all feel like feasible beings in the fallout world. they also feel like MCs of their own story. there is no haply endings in fallout only bittersweet.
no way any sony adaptation is as good as this except GOW. gravity rush will be the sleeper hit and the rest will sit comfortably alongside twisted metal and uncharted the movie.
Even though arcane is great idk why it’s taken like 2 years to finish that lmao it’s like idk way to drawn out and long. Not binge-able for me
Triple H for Kratos!!!
Fallout is the best game-to-screen adaptation so far, love it. I hope Mass Effect gets that level of love one day
As we're seeing with the Halo show, tackling futuristic Sci-Fi of that scale and magnitude well is still probably out of the realm of viability for TV production (and I say that as a big Halo fan that did actually enjoy Season 2, an adaptation this faithful just wouldnt have been possible for Halo, and so we've had to settle for this knock off instead 😅)
I'd be VERY down for a good Mass Effect show at some point, but like this if they were to ever do it, a smaller scale original story would be the way to go. Something you can control the story to work around your production limitations. (Same could have been said for Halo for that matter)
My honest opinion is Fallout is great, and Twisted Metal isn’t that far off from it, budget aside. If twisted metal had a higher critic score people would be talking about it the same way as Fallout
Should of made days gone instead of or as well as TLOU. imagine those hordes.
1 ep deep into Fallout, I would not put it better than TLOU yet. But to be in that conversation after 1 ep is incredibly impressive.
The last of us is pretty much another zombie show with a better story
Well that’s the game too. And you can simplify any story like you just did. There’s not really a point in doing that. I could say Fallout is just another post apocalyptic tv show. I could say game of thrones is just another fantasy show.
This video was kinda strange considering that Playstation productions have already had two hits on their hands. The real title shoukd be "can fallout rival Playstation productions" but then again this video is just filler.
I’m confused about the question… PS studios already has 2 series and 2 films. They don’t need to rival anything…
Why the defensiveness? It’s a simple topic that they wanted to talk about in leu of the hit fallout tv show
Only 1 of those is actually great though… they need to work on making their movies the same quality of the games they’re based on
We shouldn’t have to see so much tense competition between these video game Hollywood productions. From masterpieces like the Last of Us on HBO, to exciting thrill rides like the Sonic franchise on Paramount to even the garbage like the Super Mario movie
I know the Last of Us show was critically acclaimed but I thought it got worse as the show went on. It was cool seeing an almost 1:1 adaptation but they added unnecessary filler and stripped out the combat against clickers/zombies which just made the whole experience worse.
Fallout to me has set the bar for videogame adaptations. It has so many intriguing storylines and characters that intertwine by the end. I am biased though since Fallout is my favorite series ever.
Out of the modern videogame adaptations I've seen I'd rank them from best to worst:
Fallout, Twisted Metal, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Sonic Movies, Mario movie, Last of Us, Halo show.
Can't take you seriously lol
@@themoviefan9990 Hilarious coming from someone who's favorite franchise is Life is Strange 🤣
@hobolad that isn't my favorite game franchise it's one of them but not my favorite lol. But go on with your awful mario and sonic movies
i agree episode 1 had me hyped for the last of us show, by episode 6 or 7 it dragged
I just couldn’t get over how different Ellie was in the show
WTH, did The Last of Us not count? HBO did a better job IMO.
HBO did a great job, but Fallout is certainly a more impressive adaptation, given it's more surreal and open ended nature.
TLoU was pretty much already a movie ready for 1:1 adaptation, and other than the occasional Clicker its all basically real world items and locations.
In terms of their upcoming adaptations, I'd say that Horizon will have to measure up and contend with Fallout with those same sort of challenges, while Ghosts of Tsushima falls more along the lines of TLoU. So there's already good precident that Sony will do a good job at that (GoT) but it's yet to be seen if they can pull off Horizon live action
@@alexlyster3459sony literally killed it with Twisted Metal series what r u on about.
Sony has won 2 for 2: meanwhile microsoft released the horrendous halo tv show.
@Teja I suppose I was forgetting Twisted Metal, but I wouldn't exactly say that they killed it there.
And for all its flaws, both seasons of Halo have higher Rotten Tomatoes Scores than Twisted Metal and much higher viewership figures, Season 2 especially.
So I wouldn't exactly call either series a resounding success for their respective publisher.
I feel like we should stop using rotten tomatoes to give context to ratings. Just such a flawed rating system. If we're doing movies/shows just use imdb or metacritic.
No... Fallout is just the best video game adaptation. TLOU is was faithful and well produced, but that's it. It was completely derivative and took zero risks, it was just the game story for people who didn't play. These two don't begin to compare.
Jason momoa as kratos
Arcane is still #1
WTH kinda title is this crap Can PlayStation Productions Rival Fallout?
console waring tv shows damn
From people who claim to hate console war fanboyism, they sure are fanning the flames
this ^
Well they already have the last of us out so this title stupid
I think Fallout is better. Zombie shows are cringe
@@codysmith3767 TLOU runs circles around Fallout and pretty much any other videogame adaptation with the exception of Arcane
@@dav2-094I'd be very willing to bet you haven't watched it yet....
@@codysmith3767 last of us isnt zombies and the biggest issue od season 1 was the lack of zombies lmao... the twisted metal show was fantastic and
@@alexlyster3459 I binged all 8 episodes lol. It's a really good show and a great adaptation, it simply isn't as good as TLOU, Arcane or even Edgerunners
It's really funny how much people play into fanboyism for views but claim to hate it.
Good to see it took the Internet crowd less than a year to become the contrarian we knew they would be. Suddenly Last of Us was not "that good" according to these comments. No one can enjoy anything in perpetuity, everything new has to drag down what's already come.
Also, if anything I'd say it's the OPPOSITE for helldivers. I love the pacing of the story but it's almost too slow. They are understandably losing players daily, and it's becoming harder to complete the major orders. I think a faster pace of new content could keep people playing more regularly but that's an unrealistic expectation
Who is saying the last of us is not good lmao
Just want to say J Cole is still the best rapper of the big 3 even if he apologized. And his new feature on that Future /Metro album is 🔥
I don't see a single Sony franchise doing as good and what Fallout is doing. So far everything we have heard is happening are direct adaptations rather than canon world stories seperate from the game plots. If Horizon is not about Alloy i think they could go that route with it but i am pretty sure it is about her.
Fallout, Cyberpunk and Arcane are the ones i would choose as the best for sure though, they are all canon to the game worlds.
TLOU shits on all those.
The Last Of Us. The question is Can Fallout rival Playstation
PlayStation already won Emmy’s for their show lol. What is there to Rival? If fallout wins some Emmy’s which I think they will; it will be a real battle.
The Lord of the Rings Amazon show was a big miss.
Love blessing but his movie/TV takes are trash 🗑️
I hope J Cole normalizes “stepping down” to “end beef”. The stage drama is killing us bro.
nahhh it's more fun for them to talk shit
Meh, the bars aren’t all that crazy. We’re more entertained by hyping the headline. To lose either of these artists too soon for a cheap trick would be tragic.
TLOU show just took the game and adapted it more poorly than the game. At least the Fallout show did its own story with borrowing from the game series.
how did it adapt it more poorly everytig was the same besides the bill and frank episode which won an Emmy btw
@graynor67 The pacing was worse, and the game is still better. I'm not saying the show is bad; it's just not as good as the game it's adapting.
It’s funny seeing all the fanboys getting extremely defensive over a simple title
To be fair, I haven't listed to this. But the title should be, can fallout rival ps production's. PS has already proven itself in this area. Disregard everything I've said if they address this. #JESUSMATTERS!!!!!
They are definitely not the big 3
Pretty much. Drake is above both of them in sales and popularity though
Witcher show was awful 😂
That show was an adaptation of the books not the game
The Last of Us show can piss off. I was someone who was drawn to and liked the game for the horrific elements of the story. I and others like me were kicked to the curb because they got a director who thought he was too good for that.
PlayStation has 100% hit rate so far with TLOU and Twisted Metal shows meanwhile Xbox released the horrendous Halo TV show.
And now has a success with Fallout, but its only critical success so far. Lets see if audiences watch Fallout in droves.
Also some ppl saying TLOU is traditional story so its easier to adapt? Huh? If its a SIMPLE STORY, its HARDED to adapt. As you cant rely on shock value or suspense.
Anyway, sony already achieved that no-traditional with Twisted Metal show. That aint traditional TLOU. Hell twisted metal is 100x times less traditional than Fallout. So you could Easily Argue that pulling off twisted metal was more difficult than Fallout which had tons of story lore, backstories AND has the literal stories of the games to work off of . Sony has won 2 for 2: meanwhile microsoft released the horrendous halo tv show.
You have must a whole different show if you thought Twisted Metal was a hit
did you guys forgot about the last of us seems like you did.
you guys are way off...
the last of hbo show is better then fallout no doubt about it.. fallout could never match the awards and greatness of the last of us case closed..
