What we as fans experience as a 5 minute bit, for the comedians is the result of hundreds and hundreds of hours of fine-tuning on their part and combines so many admirable qualities all at once: genius, story telling, humor, pace, relatability... and I'm sure more. So, when I see a hack reaction channel that takes that kind of brilliance and then has the audacity to make the video about themselves by talking over top of key parts, talking about some random experience they had that only tangentially relates to the bit.. it makes me as apoplectic as Bill is during one of his bits. If it's funny... laugh!! If you're gob-smacked by the brilliance and you just gotta comment...PAUSE IT while you make your comment! Then back it up so as not to lose the continuity. Even better, at the end, feel free to comment about what you thought was so amazing about it! I absolutely loved your reactions to this masterpiece of Bill's. Thank you and I will happily give you some reaction ideas. My top recommendation is Norm Macdonald. As much as I love Bill's comedy and work ethic (NOBODY puts more into their craft than Bill does) there is a thing about Norm that I've never seen in any other comedian. All my favorite comedians are amazing for a combination of reasons, great sense of humor, work ethic, longevity, smart, etc. Norm is the only one of whom I can say the following: Norm is "funny" incarnate. This is not to say he doesn't also work hard at it. It's just to say I've never seen anyone whose very essence just naturally exudes humor. I can't explain it better than that. He rented a car and let Derek drive in the desert in AZ. He said he was having a grand old time, crashing into stuff, driving through bushes and such. said it didn't matter what the cost of the damaged car was it was worth it just to see he his son smile like that. He said life is too short. cars and stuff are just possessions that can be replaced. but making a memory like that lasts a lifetime. Derek died soon after that.
What a tragic story! All three of us office blokes have kids. I can't image how rough that would be for a parent. I would loved to have seen him racing round the desert having a great time...

That's true, I've noticed that. British comedians really riff off of each other well, lots of great improv humor, whereas American comedians are really good at sticking to the script. They turn their routine into an art. There are people who are good at both on both sides of the water, I'm sure, and I wouldn't say any particular comedians from either side come to mind that are bad at either of the ones that I enjoy, but most of the British comedians I watch I love most when they're chatting with someone else and most American comedians are better following a pre-planned script. Maybe get in a joke or two at a heckler to spice up the routine or come up with something on the fly to change up their routine a bit, but generally, yeah... Don't know why. Just how culture shapes art, I guess.
