Seems like a lot of truck lol. I just have a 05 silverado single cab short bed,5.3, 4.10 gears, locker, and tuned. I could only imagine what it would be like with a stall, cam, and 2 step
ToadNumber55 i love single cab short beds, my friend has one that he swapped an ls3 into and its done up even more than my truck, its a blast to drive.
Gonna get this shit for my durango rt! Thing is straightpiped and always wanted to have a 2 step. Just never knew you could put it on an auto. Thanks for the video!
Is there a certain rpm it pushes through the brakes? I'd like to launch my car around 4k, and I noticed yours was set around 3k. Thanks for any info and love the truck!
with the 2 step it wont ever push through the brakes because it essentially puts the truck in neutral, the rpm limit is based on the stall of your torque converter. so the highest i could set mine to was like 3200 because thats what my converter stalled at. without the 2 step you are loading up the converter and braking at the same time, if you give it more rpms and go past what your converter stalls at then you with push through the brakes.
Wiring it up to the brake is super smart i heard someone say to wire in a pushbutton switch which made no sense to me lol. U should put a ls6 intake on it!
menitojr i would put that intake on it but i wrecked the truck and dont have it anymore, i got a 2002 z28 and its cammed with 241 heads and an ls6 intake
Carter Mckinney oh nice man well it wouldve been cool to have both lol but i seen your camaro shes pretty clean. Sucks that the silverados gone but at least u got a nice replacement lol
BIG RED BETTY yeah its really fun. whenever i wanna peel out real hard i can do it. but it doesn’t really do much unless you have an aftermarket higher stall torque converter.
Bobby B i hooked the white/blue wire to my trailer brake controller module that came with the truck and found a wire that got 12v when i press the brake which activates the 2 step. it has no effect on driving and has built in safety features, i covered this in another comment below or on one of my other videos
Oscar Skirrt454 you can totally run the 2 step with the stock stall and gears but itll only stall as high as your torque converter will allow. my stock one was only like a 2200 stall or something like that so i could only set it at like 2100 rpms and it didnt do much. with the 3200 stall i have in it now i stall it up at 3000 rpms and it launches way better, i just need good tires because mine just spin their ass off
Would it really be necessary to have this if you already have an upgraded converter? Looks like you have a 3000rpm converter what would be the difference without the 2 step? Just more wear to the drivetrain and such
miles malone your right it wasn’t needed at all. i had a 4000 stall converter in it so i could of foot-braked it no problem, i just always wanted a 2 step and let me tell you it was fun messing around with. also it helped with consistency in launching at the track, no guesswork, just set it and floor it.
Trailerpark Supersports i dont have cats and it wont let me do a brake stand burnout because i wired mine into the brake pedal so it just holds the engine rpms. you could wire it up to a switch and still be able to do brake stand burnouts though
Mr Man this is what i found on a forum... it is part of the EVAP system, that line is attached to a solenoid valve located on top of the intake which opens and closes to allow fuel vapors to be pulled into the intake and mixed with the fresh air for combustion.
no you can put it on with a stock stall no problem. just gonna be limited by what your converter stalls to in gear. in neutral you can set it as high as you want if your just trying to show off.
Guillermo Cortez i used a butt connector to connect the 2step wire to a wire that got 12 volts when i press the brake pedal. whenever i’m on my brakes at idle the 2 step is activated and then i floor it and let my foot off the brake and it launches then the 2 step is no longer activated after i launch. In order for the 2-Step system to reactivate, it must see at least a 1/3 drop in RPM level. For example, mine is set at 3,000 RPMs it won’t reactivate unless my RPM level drops below 2,000 RPM.
Carter Mckinney is it hard to plug in? What tools do you need? Sorry, I’m kind of a rookie when it comes to this stuff but I want to learn and do it on my own. Have the link where you got it at? And is it universal for every car?
lerodriguez10 you just need a butt connector to hook it up and just google search msd two step for ls series engines or for whatever type of engine you have
can this be wired to a switch? you tapped into a brake wire? i just got one and confused on the wiring. you only use one of the wires that come out the msd box?
omgbg ycfmbbg yeah i used the white and blue wire and butt commected it to a wire on my trailer brake controller that got 12 volts whenever i hit the brake (thats the voltage required to activate the 2 step) i guess you could wire it into a switch instead and flip it on to activate it too
I ran mine to a toggle works only in park I have the ground wire ran I'm so confused I guess I gotta run it to my brake pedal wires for it to be activated any help thanks
So if I were to ground it to the brake like you, would this cause an issue while driving? When I'm driving I like to downshift while braking for stop signs and such and I don't exactly just want it activating. This is my issue with an auto. I know it has the blue ground switch and I assume if you do that it'll always be on but then I'm still worried of an issue while driving
Metra163 - HD Video Productions The LS 2-Step has a built-in rpm drop circuit that prevents the low rpm limit from activating during gear shifts (when connected through the clutch switch). In order for the limit to activate, it must see an rpm drop of more than 1/3 the set amount. For example, if the limit is set at 3,000 rpm, the limiter will not activate unless it sees more than a 1,000 rpm drop. So in essence there is no way it can possibly effect you while driving, i drive the piss out of my truck everyday and down shift and neutral rev it all the time and have no issues.
Carter Mckinney Although, my concern is still when I downshift a large amount while braking. It is often times more than 1000 rpms. I guess I can only find out by adding it you know?
Metra163 - HD Video Productions well when you downshift the rpms go up and the two step needs to see a 1/3 drop to whatever its set at so theres no way it could mess with you while shifting. The highest i can set mine is at 3000 because thats what my torque converter stalls at so i have to be 1/3 of that which is 1000. My truck idles at 950-1000 so i literally have to be at idle (at a dead stop) for the two step to even work. Its a launch control unit so its not designed to activate or do anything to interfere with your driving once you get off the line. You have nothing to worry about my man.
phantomx55 its pretty loose, its a 2800-3200 stall and with my truck setup the way it is i can stall it up to 3000. driving around it likes to stay right up around 3000 and you have to get into it a little so that it will upshift, but on the highway doing about 75 on cruise control it’ll stay right at 2500rpm like it did when it was stock. its honestly one of the best things i did to this truck. im very happy with it.
J 117 yeah it works on automatics but it will only hold the rpms as high as your torque converter with stall. whereas a manual with a clutch will let you rev up and hold at any rpm
modmotorsFTW you can buy it on jegs, summit racing, texas speed...etc. just look up msd 2 step ls series for sale on google and look for a good price, i think jegs has them on sale now for christmas, the 2 step will only let you rev as high as the stall in your torque converter, so it wont do much putting it on an automatic car with the stock converter. i put a 3200 stall aftermarket converter in my truck and now not only am i in the powerband of my camshaft as soon as i floor it, i can also launch it off the 2 step at 3000 rpms and get a decent launch instead of the 2000 rpm launch with my stock stall which didn’t help at all. so i wouldn’t get a 2 step unless i had an aftermarket torque converter or unless my car was a manual then it wouldn’t matter and you could launch it at any rpm.
That's fucken dope!!!! Can you daily it with the power hooked up to the brake? I dont wanna accidentally 2 step infront of a cop or when I dont want to use it!
I'm a year late but you can just wire it up to a button you press with your thumb to activate it. That's how it is in my turbo 5.3l trailblazer and works great
If you plan to do a burnout before you launch, you should probably use a button to activate your 2-step. Can you wire it up on a toggle that deactivates it until your done with your burnout? I like the brake pedal idea, but seems like it would prevent a proper burnout without a way to turn it off if it’s wired to your brakes. I ordered mine for the LS Swap S10 today!!
I’m 15 and I have a 2000 Chevrolet 1500 short wide with a positive track rear end long tube headers cold aid intake and it is getting a stage 2 gpi cam and tuned a t gpi it two weeks
Hey did you habe to trim the engine oil dipstick when you installed your headers? My Texas speed header flange was hitting it so I had to trim it a lot where it mounts to the block
Lisandra Ramirez i connected the 2 step wire to this wire on my trailer brake controller that gets 12 volts when i press the brake down and that activates the 2 step
@@carterm623 dang, well reason I ask is because I was looking for a way around a trans brake but doesn't look that way for me. My single cab has a 3600 stall but doesn't let me go past 2500 rpm on foot brake. And seeing how I run an 295 et street tire, I have a slow launch. Guess I'll just start getting ready for trans brake and 2 step....
WatDaHeckman i knockout two birds with one stone that way because youll be on the brakes and gas the whole time youre doing a burnout. the power of the truck will break the rear tires loose while leaving the fronts locked because thats how they are designed (you get most brake pressure from the fronts. the two step just limits my revs so i can floor it without worrying about hitting redline (consistency). i hit the brakes which holds my truck still while also engaging the 2 step (when brake is pressed it sends 12volts through the wire to my 2step module thus activating it) this way i dont have to hold my brakes and hold a separate switch to engage the 2 step.
So if you're already doing a burnout and still in the break I figured the 2 step would stay on. Or once its past a certain rpm does it disengage?. Thanks for the detailed reply, I have a truck just like yours
WatDaHeckman oh i see what you mean. my bad, yeah i have to let off the brake then the tires spin and immediately get back on the brake so i dont keep going forward. the 2 step disengages once the tires spin so it doesnt kick back on when you let off then hit it again. its like a built in safety mechanism
Ahhhh, yea that was my question. I'm not sure if I could wire to the brake or not cause I'm on a 35" tire. Maybe who knows. It would be nice to not have to worry about a switch
Call me dumb, stupid or ignorant but you say when you hit the brakes you can floor it and the truck will bounce off the rev limiter until you release the brakes.....so what happens if you're making a pass at the track and get to the end if the track and you're pushing say 6500+ and you're rev limiter is at 3500....won't it then hit the rev limiter until you slow down and get below the limiter??
jayer 1981 nope, once the car is moving it has a safety feature that won’t allow it to activate. plus it only will activate if your rpms drop 1/3 below what you have it set at. i set it at 3000 and my truck idles around 900 so literally i just have to be at idle for it to even activate.
jayer 1981 and also it doesn’t bounce off the limiter when you hit the brakes, you have to press the brake and floor the gas at the same time then side step the brake and it launches
Brian Butler i dont know what you mean when you say it stays on all the time? if you wired it into a wire that activates it when you press the brake then the only time its on is when you hit the brake. but if you wired it into a wire that has voltage all the time whether you hit the brake or not then you screwed up and need to wire it to a wire that only gets 12 volts when you hit the brake, or wire it to a switch.
how are you able to launch at 3k without it pushing through the brakes or spinning? I have a 3200 stall, tsp cam, msd 2 step and the highest i can go before it starts pushing through the brakes or spinning is 2500
@@carterm623 I must be doing something wrong then, like i said it starts to do a burnout or pushes through the brakes if I have the box set higher than 2500
OfficialCyanideBand oh thats because you have the stock stall converter, it probably stalls up and maxes at 2500. i bought and aftermaket 3200 stall converter so i could hold my rpms higher (up to 3200).
Abraham McDonald at that time yes it was stock. 80e’s are pretty strong stock, i only was making 330 to the wheels so theres no way i could hurt it. later on before i wrecked it i had a custom built ptc converter, and a fully built trans with alto clutches, shift kit, billet input shaft, kevlar bands, sonnax overdrive, hd sprags...etc. 4l80’s are great, way better than a 60e at least.
Giovanny Mares i do, ill probably keep it and put it in a single cab truck when i get back from the army. before i do that i need to sell my fbody though
held the brake and floored it at the same time, since my 2 step is wired on my brake switch it activates when i press the brake when the truck is stopped and holds the rpms at whatever i set it to. then let off the brake and it launches. if i did this without the 2 step then the tires would try to spin and the truck would be fighting the brakes and the converter trying to move forward.
Jose Bustos 6.0, btr stage 4 cam, upgraded valve springs, cold air intake, texas speed headers and full custom true duals, 3200 stall converter and 2 step in this video
Awesome video bro and so like I would have to buy the 2 step and just take it to a mechanic and they can put it but I would just have to tell him my stall?
Jose Hilario me and my dad put mine in together but he’s also a GM trained technician. it was pretty simple though. but you dont need to tell him ur stall, you can just set the dials on the 2 step yourself with a screw driver and just go as high as it will let you. if you go too high then it won’t hold and the truck will slowly creep forward when ur trying to launch instead of sitting still like it should. mine only holds at 3000 rpms
Carter Mckinney aye bro little late but would you still be able to burn out tho? Cause I just fixed my transmission with stall for my cam and I was thinking about getting a trans brake but the 2 step is way cheaper?
Jose Hilario yeah you can still burn out, i wired mine into the brake so i just press the brake down then floor it and it holds the engine at 3000 rpms then i quickly take my foot off the brake and it spins the tires like crazy then i just put my foot back on the brake once its spinning to keep the truck from moving and do a big burnout.
matt hdz was a thor converter 3200 stall, garbage converter wouldnt reccomend... broke the sprag in a month and had to get it cut open and completely upgraded.

I just bought a 2 step for my 01 Silverado with a custom turbo kit. Cant wait to use it!!

Crazy thing is I said HELL YEAH BROTHER on the first pull and you said it. Nice simple clean build man keep it up
Damn this is a real nice setup you’ve got 🔥

wire it to the brake light switch at the pedal.

Great video,
Question? I own a 08 silverado 1500 with ly6 6.0 stage2 cam but no stall, do I need to install the stall prior to get the 2step?

Is it wired straight to the brake 12v wire? Does the 2 step turn off after letting go the pedal or how does that work?

I got some questions if u r still on CZcams reply. I’m confused with wiring lol
IrocBlower85 ask away ill see what i can do
Hey did you habe to trim the engine oil dipstick when you installed your headers? My Texas speed header flange was hitting it so I had to trim it a lot where it mounts to the block
charles blanchard mine fit just fine, this is also a 2500 so i think it has a little bit more room too
Carter Mckinney mine is a 04 2500hd
charles blanchard interesting... mine didn’t hit anything
Carter Mckinney are they 1 7/8 or 1 3/4 primaries?
charles blanchard 1 3/4
Do I need big mods to instal 2 step or can I have it with headers cat back and CAI?
You can install 2 step with no mods at all
CoZmo thank you !
So would that be this model? MSD LS 2-Step Launch Controls 8733?
Cesar Cabanillas yes
Does it work while driving?
For his setup probably. He said he had to hit the break to send the 12v to the 2 step
Ok... does yours have one? If so what stall I see you hoping out at 4k
Danny Jacob yeah i have a 2800-3200 stall torque converter by Thor converters in it
So this will work for my Scion iQ?
The Itasha Mazda not this one, you’d have to get a specific 2 step for your specific engine. this is a universal setup for ls engines
That had a built trans I’m guessing right ?
Mitch Kickert not in this video, all stock but aftermarket converter
Do you have a stall converter?
SouthernDoom666 yes it was a 3200
What exactly did u wire it up from brakes ?
Lisandra Ramirez i connected the 2 step wire to this wire on my trailer brake controller that gets 12 volts when i press the brake down and that activates the 2 step
Do u kno what else I could activate it with
Lisandra Ramirez just any wire that gets 12 volts whenever you hit the brakes.
I have the same truck and where can I buy the 2 step 🤷🏻♂️
Mine is straight piped 💯
google it man they sell it everywhere
Carter Mckinney really nice thanks bro 💯
Carter Mckinney and I liked and subscribe 💯 that was fast
To
eBay
Can I use this with 5.3 vortec?
yes you can
Hey man could you post a video of it launching without 2 step?
Fully Functional sadly i don’t have the truck anymore and don’t have any video like that
@@carterm623 dang, well reason I ask is because I was looking for a way around a trans brake but doesn't look that way for me. My single cab has a 3600 stall but doesn't let me go past 2500 rpm on foot brake. And seeing how I run an 295 et street tire, I have a slow launch. Guess I'll just start getting ready for trans brake and 2 step....
Did you ever do something to fix the traction problem?
Cesar Cabanillas no i wrecked it before i got the chance. i was gonna put caltracs on it and nice street tires like nitto 420s
Carter Mckinney what did you do with all the parts you installed did you part it out?
Cesar Cabanillas i yanked most of em out and sold em before the insurance company took the truck
Carter Mckinney you think the caltrac traction bars would actually make that much of a difference?
I have a 3200stall on my 5.3 what rpm do you have it at?
Who's Gio ? i had it set at 3000rpm
So how do you do a burnout if its wired to your brake?.
Wow
Carter Mckinney I wonder if it's possible to use this on a newer 5.3 with the AFM.....wonder if it could cause issues with the valvetrain.....
jayer 1981 its a universal setup that works for all ls based engines, so yeah it should work
So I installed mine like urs but for some reason mine stays on all the time help please
Carter Mckinney I wired to my brake like fuse
Brake light fuse
how are you able to launch at 3k without it pushing through the brakes or spinning? I have a 3200 stall, tsp cam, msd 2 step and the highest i can go before it starts pushing through the brakes or spinning is 2500
OfficialCyanideBand the 2 step holds it back, thats the whole point of one
@@carterm623 I must be doing something wrong then, like i said it starts to do a burnout or pushes through the brakes if I have the box set higher than 2500
OfficialCyanideBand oh thats because you have the stock stall converter, it probably stalls up and maxes at 2500. i bought and aftermaket 3200 stall converter so i could hold my rpms higher (up to 3200).
@@carterm623 I have a circle d billet 3200 stall, bought brand new from circle d lol i dont get it either man
OfficialCyanideBand hmm thats weird
Stock 80e??? How’s it holding up with all the abuse?
Abraham McDonald at that time yes it was stock. 80e’s are pretty strong stock, i only was making 330 to the wheels so theres no way i could hurt it. later on before i wrecked it i had a custom built ptc converter, and a fully built trans with alto clutches, shift kit, billet input shaft, kevlar bands, sonnax overdrive, hd sprags...etc. 4l80’s are great, way better than a 60e at least.
Carter Mckinney you still got that 80e?
Giovanny Mares i do, ill probably keep it and put it in a single cab truck when i get back from the army. before i do that i need to sell my fbody though
How did you launch like that??
held the brake and floored it at the same time, since my 2 step is wired on my brake switch it activates when i press the brake when the truck is stopped and holds the rpms at whatever i set it to. then let off the brake and it launches. if i did this without the 2 step then the tires would try to spin and the truck would be fighting the brakes and the converter trying to move forward.
Bro what do you have under the hood
Jose Bustos 6.0, btr stage 4 cam, upgraded valve springs, cold air intake, texas speed headers and full custom true duals, 3200 stall converter and 2 step in this video
Can you add 2 step on chevy avalanche
If it has a Ls engine then yes. Part number 8733
So would this work on my 2010 2500hd 6.0??
brandon kelly yes
Thx man... can't wait to get mine
No wonder it used to leave slow he has long ass gears
Carter Mckinney alright thanks bro👍🏽
Where did you buy this ?
Andrew 03 jegs
What’s the product number so I can buy the exact one pls
8733 goes for any LS motor.
Lol "spun a little bit"
I hace 08 silverado 4.8 were Can I buy this one
Part number 8733
What converter?
matt hdz was a thor converter 3200 stall, garbage converter wouldnt reccomend... broke the sprag in a month and had to get it cut open and completely upgraded.
Do you have to have a stall converter for this to work properly
zayres29 no but it helps you to stall it up higher
what muffler are u running??? girl is loud and sounds nasty.
jason jones texas speed long tube headers going into an x-pipe and true duals with black widow venom 250 series mufflers. its super loud but hardly any drone.
Bad.
