Comparing four Cherry Bomb® mufflers on my Chevy Camaro - Sound Test 3.8L V6

  • This is the third in a series of videos that I'm creating comparing four popular Cherry Bomb® mufflers on all of my vehicles. In this video I compare these mufflers on my 1997 Chevy Camaro RS. You know as well as I, that it's hard to make a V6 engine sound good with performance mufflers. How does a Cherry Bomb muffler sound on a V6? Will they stack up to the sound of a V8?
    This video compares the sound of the Glasspack, Turbo, Vortex and Extreme Cherry Bomb® mufflers. I do a series of accelerations and one long uphill acceleration to record the "drone" sound inside of the car.
    Let me know in the comment section below which of the four mufflers you think sounds the best on my 1997 Chevrolet Camaro RS with the 3.8L Series II V6.
    If you like this video, give 'er a thumbs up and if you haven't already, hit that subscribe button and ring the bell so you can be notified when I post new videos.

    Just a side note: I am not sponsored by Cherry Bomb. I purchased these mufflers with my own money. I like the product as well as the price.

    A. Glasspack B. Extreme C. Turbo D. Vortex

      AnubisGod Morte Agree on the turbo as far as decent sound.. But the flow is terrible on it since it has a lot of twists and turns inside the shell.. Had a turbo style muffler on my 98 Lumina and had issues with it being water logged after a rainstorm.

    The vortex made it sound like a ricer on revs but had amazing deep idle rumble. The extreme had a nice muscle car sound to it on revs and a decent idle rumble. The transmission shifting and coming off the throttle created that annoying ricer rasp and is very unpleasant to listen to. The turbo did handle the rasp though and sounded decent in all ranges of operation. I would go with the turbo on the Camaro. The glasspak in my opinion sounds best on older rwd v8's, v6's and i6's, like 96 and older American cars.

    I have a 2002 Pontiac gtp L67 and that rasp is what's been making my decision the most difficult. Right now it's open 2 1/2 inch pipe. The exhaust ends right after the Y pipe and doesn't rasp but I want a muffler to tame the sound a bit. Thank you for making comparisons, it'll aid me in my research/decision. Every negative critic on your video are obviously too scared to experiment. I think a V6 has every right to sound like it has a pair!

      The Pontiac Grand Prix V6 has an East/West engine layout with its own unique exhaust manifolds giving it that distinctive sound. The Chevy Camaro V6 has a North/South engine layout requiring a little bit more experimentation to improve on the exhaust sound. I feel GM sourced the stock exhaust system for the Camaro from the budget bin as it looks cheap and nasty.

      Austin Todd well there’s an f-body specific kit available on eBay, and then you’d need an intercooler kit, as well as bigger injectors and a tune. Hit up either zzp performance or intense racing they specialize in 3800’s

    glasspacks on a v6 sound like dirty butt. Turbos sound better & hide some of the v6 sound. Extreme / vortex sounds tinny, or like you have an exhaust leak

    I'm sorry I love camaro's but they all sound terrible, maybe try a Flowmaster 40 series or 50 series. That might do the job. I used to have a Flowmaster underneath my celebrity v6 2.8 and it sounded almost like a v8

    • @dannyalexander2241
      @dannyalexander2241 Před 2 lety

      The difference is the head design, the 60 degree V6’s (2.8, 3.1, and 3.4) sound pretty decent, the 90 degree V6 engines like the 4.3 and 3.8 are hard to make sound good. Just different heads/head port shape and design.

    If it was mine, I would put a stock replacement muffler on it. Make it quite and enjoy the drive. If I had to pick one of the four, I pick c the turbo muffler. It was the mellowest.

    • @TheDaninator
      @TheDaninator  Před 6 lety

      The turbo muffler sounds much like my stock muffler did but with the volume turned up a notch. The low tones are much richer. The high end rasp is louder, but manageable. I'm actually diggin' it.
